An Emperical Evaluation Of Adequacy Criteria For Testing Concurrent Programs, Gaurav Saini Aug 2005

An Emperical Evaluation Of Adequacy Criteria For Testing Concurrent Programs, Gaurav Saini

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

A concurrent program contains two or more threads that execute concurrently and work together to perform some task. Concurrency increases the efficiency of a program. Testing of concurrent programs has been a challenging task because of the inherent non-determinism. Most approaches proposed for concurrent program testing employ, explicitly or implicitly, a coverage criterion to measure test adequacy. In order to apply those approaches, we must first choose a criterion that suits best for our programs. There is a need for quantitative results of evaluation regarding the effectiveness of the various coverage criteria used for the testing of concurrent programs. Such …

Low Phase Noise Voltage-Controlled Oscillator Design, Zhipeng Zhu Aug 2005

Low Phase Noise Voltage-Controlled Oscillator Design, Zhipeng Zhu

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Two kinds of voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) - active inductor based VCO and LC cross-coupled VCO - are studied in this work. Although the phase noise performance is not competitive, the proposed active inductor based VCO provide an alternative method to VCO design with very small chip area and large tuning range. The measurement shows a test oscillator based on active inductor topology successfully oscillates near 530MHz band. The phase noise of the widely used LC cross-coupled VCO is extensively investigated in this work. Under the widely used power dissipation and chip area constraints, a novel optimization procedure in LC oscillator …

Power Management Integrated Circuits Design, Functionality Analysis And Applications, Zheng Li

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Power management is playing a significant role in modern electronics. Good power management is especially important for portable devices that rely on batteries. By smartly managing how the power is directed to different components of a system, e.g., reducing power to components that are not being used, the efficiency as well as the battery lifetime can be doubled or tripled. There exists a large family of integrated circuits (IC) that are used for power management, e.g., linear regulators, switching regulators, power controllers, hot swap controllers, etc. The voltage reference is one of the key components in this family. For high …

Comparison Of Search-Based And Kernel-Based Methods For Graph-Based Relational Learning, Chris Manuel Gonsalves

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Graph-based relational learning has been the focus of relational learning for quite some time. As most of the real-world data is structured, and hence cannot be represented in a single table, various logic-based and graph-based techniques have been proposed for dealing with structured data. Our goal is to perform an in-depth analysis of two such graph-based learning systems. We have selected Subdue to represent the search-based approach and support vector machine (SVM) with graph kernels to represent the kernel-based approach. We perform a comparison between search-based and kernel-based approaches and evaluate their performance in various domains. A search-based approach to …

Sql-Based Approach To Significant Interval Discovery In Time-Series Data, Sunit Shrestha Aug 2005

Sql-Based Approach To Significant Interval Discovery In Time-Series Data, Sunit Shrestha

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

With time-series data, events (like turning off a light, opening garage door, turning on TV) occur with a high degree of certainty not at specific time points but within time intervals (sequence of time points). So, it is useful for applications to consider data as contiguous time points. The smallest interval that satisfies the criteria of interval-confidence (i.e., ratio of total support of participating time points and the number of days) is termed as Significant Interval (SI). Significant Interval Discovery (SID) algorithm finds SIs from time-series data. The main focus of this thesis is on the improvement of existing SID …

Quantitative Comparison Of Two Approaches To Agent Cooperation, Jose Ramon Espino

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Multi-agent systems (MASs) are characterized by collections of autonomous agents that interact with each other in simple ways, but the collection of agents as a whole is characterized by emergent behavior (EB) which will have properties that individual agents do not. Engineers want to design artificial MASs for a variety of reasons including military operations. The idea is for the EB to be carrying out the mission itself. In this scenario, the agents are relatively inexpensive and expendable. A large body of work exists in MAS research for military applications and a variety of different designs have been proposed. Because …

Shared Data Acquisition System For Real-Time Power Systems Applications, Yi-Fang Hsu

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

Digital signal processing chip (DSP's) can be used to perform data analysis computation and have very good performance in real-time system. Digital filters can be designed with consideration of both magnitude and phase responses for digital re-sampling in power system applications. The design consists of two parts: magnitude approximation and group delay compensation. It compromises between the amount of calculation needed to implement the filters and the performance of the filters, which makes the filters good candidates for both real-time and offline applications.

Biomechanical Properties Of Anterior Vaginal Wall Tissue In Post-Menopausal Women, Aradhana Bhatt

Bioengineering Theses - Archive

Cystocele repair in post-menopausal women suffering from urinary incontinence and associated vaginal prolapse is a common method of palliation. In this method, there is surgical reduction of vaginal tissue and the weak cross-sections are often supported with a synthetic sling fashioned from polymer mesh material. Some sling-supported and unsupported repairs fail over the years. The reasons for these failures are unclear, due in part to a lack of fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms associated with cystocele and vaginal prolapse. The aim of this study was to understand the mechanisms of tissue failure by biomechanical and ultrastructural studies. We take advantage …

The Introduction Of The Reserve Clause And Its Impact On Baseball Salaries During The 1880s: A Panel Estimation, Jennifer Ashcraft Aug 2005

The Introduction Of The Reserve Clause And Its Impact On Baseball Salaries During The 1880s: A Panel Estimation, Jennifer Ashcraft

Economics Theses - Archive

One of the most frequently studied areas in professional baseball is the Reserve Clause. Originally introduced in 1879 by the National League, the Reserve Clause indefinitely tied a player's services to his current team and was implemented in an attempt to prevent baseball salaries from increasing and reduce team expenses. However, it was also used to control player mobility as well. While the majority of economic research on the Reserve Clause focuses on the post-Reserve Clause era, this paper analyzes the Reserve Clause during its infancy in the 1880s, a period when professional baseball was just beginning, and its impact …
