Suppressing Delta-I Noise In Mcml Circuits In Mixed Signal Environment, Ritesh Jayant Mehta Dec 2007

Suppressing Delta-I Noise In Mcml Circuits In Mixed Signal Environment, Ritesh Jayant Mehta

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

This work addresses the problem of simultaneous switching noise (SSN) in mixed signal environment. It is shown that the Metal Oxide Semiconductor Current Mode Logic (MCML) can be used to minimize the SSN. In short channel devices, Drain Induced Barrier Lowering (DIBL) effect causes the current mismatch problem. It is seen that this current mismatch problem aggravates SSN. Basic logic gates were designed using MCML topology at 5 Gbps. Parasitic model was introduced at power supply lines and substrate to study the behaviour of these logic gates in the presence of parasitics. Interpolation type delay cells were used to suppress …

Stochastic Models For In-Silico Event-Based Biological Network Simulation, Preetam Ghosh Dec 2007

Stochastic Models For In-Silico Event-Based Biological Network Simulation, Preetam Ghosh

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

The multi-scale biological system model is a new research direction to capture the dynamic measurements of complex biological systems. The current statistical thermodynamic models can not scale to this challenge due to the explosion of state-spaces of the system, where a biological organ may have billions of cells, each with millions of molecule types and each type may have a few million molecules. We seek to propose a phenomenological theory that will require a smaller number of state variables to address this multi-scaling problem. Discrete Markov statistical process is used to understand the system dynamics in the networking community for …

Stress Distribution And Strength Prediction Of Composite Laminates With Multiple Holes, Brian Esp Dec 2007

Stress Distribution And Strength Prediction Of Composite Laminates With Multiple Holes, Brian Esp

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dissertations - Archive

The major purpose of this study was to investigate failure of composite laminates with multiple unloaded holes in close proximity. The least square boundary collocation method for anisotropic materials was utilized to determine the state of stress. The approach utilized collocation on both the internal and external boundaries, making it relatively easy to implement. The method compared favorably to both published and finite element solutions. A failure prediction approach for an infinite, symmetric and balanced laminate, with two holes in close proximity was presented. The baseline material for consideration was IM7/977-3, a carbon fiber/epoxy lamina. The failure prediction method was …

An Analytical And Numerical Model For Design Of Non- Uniformly Powered Silicon Chips Based On Both Thermal And Device Clock Performance, Abhihit D. Kaisare Dec 2007

An Analytical And Numerical Model For Design Of Non- Uniformly Powered Silicon Chips Based On Both Thermal And Device Clock Performance, Abhihit D. Kaisare

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Silicon chips continue to grow in capabilities, complexity and performance. Silicon chips typically integrate functional components such as logic and level two (L2) cache memory in their architecture. This functional integration of logic and memory results in improved performance of the chip. However, the integration also introduces a layer of complexity in the thermal design and management of silicon chips. As a direct result of functional integration, the power map on a silicon chip is typically highly non-uniform and the assumption of a uniform heat flux across the chip surface has been shown to be invalid post Pentium II architecture. …

Thermal Stresses Of Composite Beams With Rectangular And Tubular Cross-Sections, Chia-Wei Su Dec 2007

Thermal Stresses Of Composite Beams With Rectangular And Tubular Cross-Sections, Chia-Wei Su

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Theses - Archive

Closed-form analytical solutions for laminated composite beams with tubular and rectangular cross-sections are developed for evaluating the thermal induced stresses. The derivations are based on modified lamination theory and parallel axis theorem. The present approach includes variation of ply stiffness along the contour of the cross-section. The interlaminar shear stress of cantilever composite beam with rectangular cross-section under a transverse load is analytically proved to be independent of temperature change in uniform temperature environment. Three-dimensional finite element models for computing thermal stresses of both cross-sections are developed using commercial software package ANSYS 10. The results obtained from analytical solutions give …

Rcd-1 Related:A Positively Selected Retrogene With Spermatogenesis Function In Drosophila, Taniya Muliyil

Biology Theses - Archive

Gene duplication is one of the major forces in driving genome evolution. Our study focuses on a particular retrogene Rcd-1 related (Rcd-1r) that originated through retroposition of the parental gene Required for cell differentiation 1 (Rcd-1) about 5-13 million years ago. Rcd-1r is present in D. melanogaster, D. simulans, D. sechellia and D. mauritiana whereas the parental gene is present in all the Drosophila species. Rcd-1r is inserted in the 3' UTR of the gene CG13102 and it is encoded in the complementary strand. Previous studies by Castrillion et al. showed that a P element inserted in the 5' UTR …

Ral Interacting Protein (Ralbp1): Linking Glutathione Conjugate Transport To Oxidative Stress Defenses And Signaling Pathways, Dilki Wickramarachchi Dec 2007

Ral Interacting Protein (Ralbp1): Linking Glutathione Conjugate Transport To Oxidative Stress Defenses And Signaling Pathways, Dilki Wickramarachchi

Chemistry & Biochemistry Dissertations - Archive

The glutathione-conjugate transporter protein DNP-SG ATPase was demonstrated to be identical to the independently cloned Ral-effector, Ralbp1. Glutathione-conjugate transport is linked to substrate-stimulated ATPase activity, while GTPase stimulating activity (GAP-activity), and clathrin-coated pit-binding activity was demonstrated for this protein by different groups of investigators. The relationship between these activities and physiological functions of Ralbp1 were not clear. The present studies were designed to address the hypothesis that the ability of Ralbp1 to couple the hydrolysis of ATP with the movement of substances, i.e. its transport activity, is the crucial element that allows Ralbp1 to function as a stress-defense protein. Results …

Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses - Archive

The work presented in this thesis focuses on the development of an enantioselective and practical route form the total synthesis of villagorgin via haplosleridamine imidazole alkaloid containing β- carboline moiety by employing the well-known Pictet-Spengler and Fischer indole reactions. We approached two different ways inorder to synthesize these molecules Our first approach focused on using a Dieckmann condensation, requiring the preparation of the corresponding diester. Initial attempts to prepare this substrate directly from histidine were unsuccessful, however after conversion to the N-benzzylamine and reductive amination with ester provided the key diester compound. Unfortunately, attempts to effect the Dieckmann reaction were …

They Don't Sing Like They Used To : Negro Soldier's Resistance To Jim Crow In 1898, Earl Ray Levingston

History Theses - Archive

By the turn of the twentieth century, Negro troops began to resist Jim Crow laws in an organized way. While some historians have mentioned these racially motivated disturbances, many have failed to seriously analyze and assess these clashes, which has led to the neglect of an important source of African-American resistance to racial discrimination in the post Reconstruction era. The purpose of this thesis is to address that failure. By briefly examining the evolution of Jim Crow policies at the turn of the century, by demonstrating how blacks struggled to serve in the U. S. army from 1673- 1868, by …

Thermally Activated Sulfurization Scheme For Cuins2 Solar Cells, Karan Agrawal

Material Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Chalcopyrite Solar Cells are now being fabricated on flexible (polymer) substrates. However, CuInS2 solar cells have not been fabricated on the polymer substrates on the commercial scale due the sulfurization temperature which limits the use of polymer substrates during fabrication. To overcome this problem a thermally activated sulfurization process for the manufacture of CuInS2 solar cells from the Cu-In bilayers is described in this work. This sulfurization process can be employed for lower temperature for the formation of the absorber layer. For the sulfurization, the Cu-In bilayer with different compositions is prepared by thermal evaporation in which the In-rich film …

Uniform Weighted Compact / Non-Compact Schemes For Shock / Boundary Layer Interaction, Peng Xie Dec 2007

Uniform Weighted Compact / Non-Compact Schemes For Shock / Boundary Layer Interaction, Peng Xie

Mathematics Dissertations - Archive

The critical problem of CFD is perhaps an accurate approximation of derivatives for a given discrete data set. Based on our previous work on the weighted compact scheme (WCS), a uniform weighted compact / non-compact scheme (UWCNC) has been developed. Similar to WENO, three high order candidates, left, right, and central, are constructed by using Hermite polynomials. According to the smoothness, three weights are derived and assigned to each candidate. The weights will lead the scheme to be upwind-biased when approaching the shock or other discontinuities but quickly becomes central, compact, and of high order just off the shock. Therefore, …

Learning Video Preferences Using Visual Features And Closed Captions, Darin Brezeale

Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Viewers of video now have more choices than ever. As the number of choices increases, the task of searching through these choices to locate video of interest is becoming more difficult. Current methods for learning a viewer's preferences in order to automate the search process rely either on video having content descriptions or on having been rated by other viewers identified as being similar. However, much video exists that does not meet these requirements. To address this need, we use hidden Markov models to learn the preferences of a viewer by combining visual features and closed captions. We validate our …

Localization In Noisy Environment Using Extended Kalman Filter, Aneeket Suresh Patkar Dec 2007

Localization In Noisy Environment Using Extended Kalman Filter, Aneeket Suresh Patkar

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

Localization is an important aspect of Wireless Sensor Networks. Information regarding the position of the sensor nodes is not always known. Without the position information of the sensors, the data reported by the sensors is of little use. Various approaches have been used to perform localization using some information about the sensor node. Potential field approach for localization, using distance information has been successfully tested with satisfactory results. However in case of noisy environment, the range measurements have greater inaccuracy. In such cases, localization using the above algorithm can provide some inaccuracy. To rectify such erroneous localization situations, Extended Kalman …

Kiowa Changes: The Impact Of Transatlantic Influences, Paul James Moore

History Dissertations - Archive

This study uses a transatlantic interpretive framework, addressing both Euro-American and Kiowa voices to understand Kiowa reactions to changes caused by ongoing transatlantic influences. From their Paleolithic days, the Kiowas faced the challenge of new ways. On the North American continent, they evolved into small hunter-gathering family units as vast grasslands arose from their fire-drives that increasingly reshaped their surroundings. The transatlantic Columbian Exchange, following Spanish discovery, provoked massive changes to Kiowa material culture as the horse produced a cultural revolution to their social and economic practices. Those changes required continued raiding for horses between 1830 and 1874 that exacerbated …
