Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. Unfortunately, the early stages of this disease are poorly understood, which has led to limited treatment options. Investigating normal changes in tissues eventually affected by AMD can further elucidate the mechanisms of disease progression and lead to novel therapeutic targets. The primary cell layer affected in AMD is the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), which forms the outer blood-retinal barrier (oBRB). Beneath the RPE lies Bruch’s membrane, a proteinaceous layer that naturally thickens and stiffens with age. These changes to Bruch’s membrane are also implicated in RPE dysfunction and AMD …

This paper reports results from a discrete choice experiment conducted with Oregon residents regarding possible policy changes in spatial management of nearshore habitat. We evaluate public preferences across several policy scenarios, each characterized by varying levels of marine reserve size (bounded areas where extractive activities are prohibited), coastal jobs generated or lost, and carbon sequestration by seagrass beds, tidal marshes and kelp forests(blue carbon habitat expansion), with models estimated in both utility and willingness to pay (WTP) space. Each of these attributes across all models displays positive, monotonic marginal WTP. Scenario analysis reveals that an “optimistic” policy package (+50 % …

The increasing global prevalence of diabetes highlights the need for accurate diagnostic tools to improve early detection and effective treatment planning. Traditional classification models often struggle to achieve optimal performance due to limitations in parameter tuning and adaptability to complex datasets. To address these limitations, this article introduces PROAnt, an innovative learning approach designed to enhance the robustness and efficiency of the PROAFTN multicriteria classification method. PROAnt leverages the computational power of ant colony optimization (ACO) to dynamically fine-tune and optimize the key parameters, such as intervals and weights, at the core of the PROAFTN classification process. This learning methodology …

Background Violence against women and against children are human rights violations with lasting harms to survivors and societies at large. Intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence against children (SVAC) are two major forms of such abuse. Despite their wide-reaching effects on individual and community health, these risk factors have not been adequately prioritised as key drivers of global health burden. Comprehensive x§and reliable estimates of the comparative health burden of IPV and SVAC are urgently needed to inform investments in prevention and support for survivors at both national and global levels. Methods We estimated the prevalence and attributable burden …
Post Discharge Care Bundle: Reducing Psychiatric Readmissions, Ejemenare Daudu
Post Discharge Care Bundle: Reducing Psychiatric Readmissions, Ejemenare Daudu
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects - Archive
Thirty-day post-discharge psychiatric readmission remains a significant challenge, with a reported 24% 30-day readmission rate at a South Texas inpatient psychiatric facility. This eight-week quality improvement project aimed to reduce readmission rates by implementing a comprehensive post-discharge care bundle. The initiative followed the Plan-Do-Study-Act framework. Interventions included standardized discharge planning, medication reconciliation, timely outpatient and telehealth services, weekly follow-up calls for 4 weeks, and coordination of community resources. The PICOTS question examined whether this standardized post-discharge approach, compared to usual care, could lower 30-day readmissions among adults aged 18 and above discharged from an inpatient psychiatric setting. Forty-two patients were …

Stargen - A Procedurally Generated Galaxy For Automated World Building, Christopher B. Del Gesso
Game Design
StarGen supports mixed-scale generation workflows, including galaxy-wide star distributions, quadrant and sector density visualization, subsector star fields via lazy sector generation, and full star system generation (stars, orbits, planets, moons, and belts) from selected stars or standalone seeded system generation. The tool also supports procedural jump route generation and visualization through a jump-lane pipeline, enabling early exploration of navigable spatial structures for game design.
StarGen is a mixed-initiative authoring tool rather than an autonomous content replacement system. Designers control seeds, galaxy presets, galaxy type (spiral, elliptical, irregular), and structural and density parameters (e.g., arm count, pitch, bulge settings, ellipticity, irregularity, …

Data Catalog
The New Hampshire (NH) Volunteer Beach Profile Monitoring Program (VBPMP) is a joint project between the University of New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, and community volunteers. The program originated in late 2016 with the overarching goal of developing a better understanding of the stability (i.e., erosion, accretion, and migration) of NH’s Atlantic coast beaches in response to storm events (waves, winds, and storm surges), seasonal changes in wave and weather conditions, and long-term changes (years) related to climate change and sea-level rise.
During the first year of the program, three field stations were established: one each …

We propose a topology-optimization framework for optimizing finite structures of arbitrary shape by combining density-based methods with level-set approaches. We first optimize regular polygonal structures to suppress the photonic density of states and find that the best performing polygon is consistent with a tiling of space with hexagonal unit cells. We next show that introducing cavities into hexagonal structures further suppresses the photonic density of states, particularly when the cavity is also hexagonal. Such a result would find application in the design of fiber-optic cables. We then describe an approach for optimizing arbitrary x-simple or y-simple designs that can recover …

“No Future For Ireland Under The Heel Of England”: Sinn Fein’S Voice Of Revolution, Agostina Pieri
Cohort 2025-2026
Agostina Pieri is a junior double majoring in History and Philosophy with a Spanish minor. She is fascinated by the intersection of morality and revolutions. Her Time Machine Project focuses on three pamphlets published by Sinn Fein during the Irish Revolution. This propaganda begs the question: how does Sinn Fein justify the use of violence? Her analysis focuses on the evolution of Sinn Fein’s arguments through the influence of the First World War and President Wilson’s “Fourteen Points.”

Observation Of Altermagnetic Spin-Splitting In An Intercalated Transition Metal Dichalcogenide, Milo X. Sprague, Madhab Neupane
Research Data and Datasets
Altermagnetism is a novel magnetic phase combining characteristics of both antiferromagnetism and ferromagnetic ordering. Despite growing theoretical interest in altermagnetic materials, reports of experimentally verified high-Néel-temperature layered compounds are limited or remain to be firmly established. In our manuscript, Observation of Altermagnetic Spin-Splitting in an Intercalated Transition Metal Dichalcogenide by M. Sprague et al, we present an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and density functional theory study of Co1/4TaSe2, a compound we identify as a layered altermagnetic material. Our spin-resolved and spin-integrated angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements reveal an electronic band structure in excellent agreement with density functional theory calculations, demonstrating clear signatures …

High entropy ceramics offer a pathway to stabilize unconventional chemistries beyond traditional alloying rules. We report the incorporation of silicon into an AlB2-type high entropy diboride, Cr0.2Nb0.2Si0.2Ta0.2Ti0.2B2, despite silicon violating classical Hume-Rothery rules for alloying. Arc melting produced a phase-pure, chemically homogeneous structure, as confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD) and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDS). Silicon occupies …
