Estimation Of Thermal Impedance Parameters Of Silicon Germanium Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors, Arun Thomas Karingada

Electrical Engineering Theses - Archive

Silicon Germanium (SiGe) hetero junction bipolar transistors (HBTs) are used in a variety of circuits like analog mixed signal and RF(radio frequency ) circuits. As the device gets smaller these days the self heating affects the performance of the SiGe HBTs. This paper uses theoretical methods based on device geometry and material properties to calculate the thermal resistance and thermal capacitance of SiGe HBT. In addition to theoretical estimations time domain, frequency domain and DC measurements are done on National Semiconductor's CBC8 HBTs which is used to extract the values of thermal impedance parameters.

We establish that higher levels of vaccination lead to greater savings of life. We also consider the …

Gender Differences In Emotional Labor, Cara L. Fay Jan 2011

Gender Differences In Emotional Labor, Cara L. Fay

Psychology Dissertations - Archive

This study examined the differences in emotional labor efforts between men and women. Emotional labor refers to the incongruity between experienced emotions and displayed emotions. This "faking" or "acting" that takes place during emotional labor has been found to be correlated with negative work-related outcomes such as job satisfaction, burnout, turnover intentions, and decreased work performance. These outcomes can cost organizations millions of dollars in terms of lost revenue, innovation, and employee-related expenses. Likewise, these outcomes can cost individuals greatly in terms of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The study sought to experimentally examine how emotional labor differs by gender. …

The Prison On The Moor: A Study Of The American Prisoner-Of-War Experience Within Dartmoor Prison, 1813-1815, Justin Jones Jan 2011

The Prison On The Moor: A Study Of The American Prisoner-Of-War Experience Within Dartmoor Prison, 1813-1815, Justin Jones

History Theses - Archive

The War of 1812 is a conflict best characterized by two adjectives: ironic and forgotten. Conventional histories of the War of 1812 focus almost exclusively on the land engagements of the war, despite the occurrence of several crucial engagements at sea. In what is perhaps the greatest irony of all, one of the most infamous incidents of the war--the shooting of several United States prisoners-of-war at Dartmoor prison in 1815--has received virtually no scholarly attention. The general topic of prisoners-of-war during the War of 1812 has received almost no treatment. Owing to the lack of substantial scholarly literature on Dartmoor …

An Identifier-Tracking Based Model Reference Adaptive Control Without The Knowledge Of Relative Degree, Xiao Hu Jan 2011

An Identifier-Tracking Based Model Reference Adaptive Control Without The Knowledge Of Relative Degree, Xiao Hu

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

The purpose of Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) is to create a controller with adjustable parameters to obtain the desired response from a reference model. One of the basic assumptions in MRAC is that the relative degree of the plant is known exactly. However, this assumption is too restrictive for some practical plants, since the relative degree of the plant may not be specified in advance. The study of MRAC with unknown relative degree has been important from both theoretical and practical point of view. This dissertation focuses on a new design approach for the model reference adaptive control of …

The major contribution of this work is the transfer of the ADP …

Mode Structure Of A Noiseless Phase-Sensitive Image Amplifier, Muthiah Annamalai Jan 2011

Mode Structure Of A Noiseless Phase-Sensitive Image Amplifier, Muthiah Annamalai

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

Optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) configured as phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSAs) can be used for noiseless optical image amplification, generation of non-classical states of light, and, in particular, for multimode squeezed light generation. For all these applications and for effective use of the quantum properties of the multimode PSA, we need to know its independently squeezed (or amplified) eigenmodes. First we present the quantum theory of a spatially multimode traveling-wave PSA pumped by a high-power pump beam with arbitrary spatial profile. To quantitatively identify the Green's function of the PSA, we have developed a semi-analytical coupled-mode-theory of the PSA using 2D Hermite-Gaussian …

Learning by trial and error and being able to form levels of abstraction from the past experience has been an important factor for sentient beings to develop intelligent behaviors and cope with an ever-changing environment. Complex control domains, in a similar way, often require the interacting agents to learn adaptive control strategies for time-varying or potentially evolving systems. This dissertation will begin by investigating an example of complex domains, Grid computing networks, through a collaborative effort in the design and implementation of a generic workload management system, PanDA-PF WMS used in the ATLAS experiment. With the incentive of boosting the …

Delay Tolerant Lazy Release Consistency For Distributed Shared Memory In Opportunistic Networks, Chance Ray Eary Jan 2011

Delay Tolerant Lazy Release Consistency For Distributed Shared Memory In Opportunistic Networks, Chance Ray Eary

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Opportunistic networking (ON), a concept which allows a mobile wireless device to dynamically interact with other wireless devices in its immediate vicinity, is a field with great potential to improve the utility of itinerant computational platforms. While ONs increase a device's ability to interact with its peers, the fleeting and intermittent connections between devices make many traditional computer collaboration paradigms, such as distributed shared memory (DSM), virtually untenable. DSM systems, developed for traditional networks, rely on relatively stable, consistent connections among participating nodes. In an ON, connectivity among nodes is distributed in time and space making it useful for delay …

Numerical Modeling Of Microwave Emission From Irregular Layer, Luis Manuel Camacho-Velazquez Jan 2011

Numerical Modeling Of Microwave Emission From Irregular Layer, Luis Manuel Camacho-Velazquez

Electrical Engineering Dissertations - Archive

A numerical approach to model the microwave emission from an irregular layer is developed. The phase matrix of the layer components as well as the emission characteristics are estimated using a numerical approach, namely the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. The phase matrix is then integrated into a layer model that accounts for the scattering between the layer and ground, using the radiative transfer theory. The effects of interface roughness on emission are incorporated into the model through the surface phase matrices, which are computed using the Integral Equation Model (IEM).The validity of the phase matrices computation is tested against theoretical …

Sybil Defense For Online Social Networks Using Partial Graph Information, Vritant Naresh Jain Jan 2011

Sybil Defense For Online Social Networks Using Partial Graph Information, Vritant Naresh Jain

Computer Science and Engineering Theses - Archive

Online social networks (OSNs) today are proprietary, in the sense that communication between users requires the users to be part of the same OSN. This raises privacy issues and reliability concerns among users, and calls for an open, interoperable, and distributed OSN infrastructure that is similar to email and would link different OSNs together. Any decentralized system, however, is vulnerable to Sybil attacks, in which an attacker claims multiple identities, called Sybils, to overwhelm the OSNs and defeat standard techniques used to protect against attacks such as message spam. The state of the art defense against these attacks is SybilInfer, …
