Maternal and infant mortality rates in the Southern United States remain disproportionately high, and inconsistent implementation of the Golden Hour, defined as uninterrupted skin to skin contact for at least the first hour after birth, continues to limit its evidence based maternal and neonatal benefits. The aim of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of a structured provider education intervention on Golden Hour compliance and provider confidence. Since its passage, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has held the unofficial title of the strongest law for environmental protections. This Act, passed in 1973, contains powerful language, with one word standing out among them all: "take" found in section 9. Section 16 U.S.C. § 1532(19) defines take as "to harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect, or attempt to engage in any such conduct." The definition of harm has been interpreted in different ways over the years, with some interpretations granting it more power and others limiting it. A particular point of contention within the …

Four sugar maple dominated northern hardwood sites in Michigan received
experimental nitrogen (N) deposition for twenty-four years at a rate of
3 g N m^-2 y^-1 .These chronic N additions broadly suppressed soil
microorganisms and increased tree diameter growth. After the 2017 growing
season, the long-term N additions were halted. To assess recovery of the
soil microbial community in response to this change, phospholipid fatty
acid (PLFA) and neutral lipid fatty acid (NLFA) biomarkers indicative of
various microbial groups were examined in soil and roots at the study
sites in 2018 and 2020.In addition, tree diameter growth was measured

Background: Emotion recognition plays a pivotal role in behavioral analysis, mental health assessment, and human-computer interaction. Micro-expressions, which are brief and involuntary facial movements, offer valuable insights into concealed emotions. However, validating micro-expressions remains a challenge due to their subtlety and short duration. This study aims to enhance the validation and classification of micro-expressions by integrating electromyogram (EMG) signals with facial action units (AUs). Methods: EMG data was collected using the EMG Muscle Sensor Module V3.0, interfaced with an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller. We designed and synthesized two novel ratiometric near-infrared fluorescent probes, probe A and probe B, tailored for sensitive detection of intracellular viscosity and human serum albumin (HSA) dynamics. Probe A integrates a coumarin donor with a cyanine acceptor to enable ratiometric fluorescence changes upon HSA binding, exhibiting increased visible emission and decreased near-infrared fluorescence. Probe B is engineered with a hemicyanine scaffold that responds to viscosity changes by enhancing visible fluorescence and moderately increasing near-infrared emission, allowing precise ratiometric sensing of microenvironmental viscosity. Both probes show excellent selectivity against biologically relevant amino acids, metal ions, and anions, and exhibit …

Distinct from the task of predicting the author of a document (authorship attribution), we focus on addressing the issue of how to estimate the similarity between the written language styles of authors. To do so, we present a dataset of metadata derived by asking human annotators, who were presented with three documents, to identify which two were written by the same author and which was written by a different author. The dataset has over 400 such annotations, creating a companion to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) customer review dataset, laying the groundwork for crowdsourcing applications to other natural language processing …

This dataset supports the production, characterization, and biological validation of a novel recombinant hagfish intermediate filament (rHIF) protein functionalized with spider silk motifs (rHIF-alpha-GRGGL). The data demonstrates a scalable bioprocess resulting in a 7.76 g/L yield, high structural alpha-helicity (77.2%), and significant support for N2a cells.

There is an urgent need to perform effective feature selection in distributed environments while preserving data privacy. In this paper, a new federated feature selection framework is developed to protect the privacy of input features held by multiple distributed clients, with applications in engineering systems where secure and efficient feature selection is critical in distributed environments. The proposed framework is based on federated learning and differential privacy techniques for distributed environments. The distributed clients send the noisy features’ values to the server preserving the privacy. The server then aggregates these noisy features’ values for further computations and feature selection. VegClassify is a hybrid, high-resolution greenspace classification tool integrating a fine-tuned deep learning model with automated NDVI threshold optimization. The tool improves accuracy and reduces subjectivity in vegetation classification using NAIP imagery. This graphical user interface (GUI) was developed to extend and simplify the use of the previously established greenspace image classification tool. The GUI provides an accessible, user‑friendly environment for running the VegClassify workflow without requiring users to interact directly with Python scripts or command‑line tools. It supports loading NAIP or other high‑resolution imagery, running deep‑learning–assisted NDVI threshold optimization, visualizing classification outputs, and exporting vegetation masks.

Current vaccine formulations heavily rely on cold chains to avoid
degradation during transportation and storage. Vaccines typically degrade
when exposure to temperature outside of 2 – 8°C range, leading to waste and
logistical challenges, particularly in rural areas. This study investigates
the ability of poly(lysine)- and poly(glutamate)-based peptide coacervates
to improve the thermal stability of porcine parvovirus (PPV), a model
non-enveloped viral vaccine. We hypothesized that both the length and
specific amino acid sequence of the peptides forming the coacervates would
influence the stability of PPV. Long polypeptides (400–800 mers) provided

Soil depth is critical to ecosystem productivity, acting as a reservoir for water, nutrients, and carbon. Deeper soils enhance water holding capacity to withstand droughts in native and agricultural systems, and provide more volume for long-term carbon sequestration, directly influencing soil health and climate regulation. This dataset scraped public well log (AKA well driller’s report) data from the Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) to create a soil depth map across the Magic Valley in south-central Idaho, USA. Smart grid cyber-physical systems (SG-CPS) are intelligent platforms that incorporate IoT-enabled multifunctional layers including the physical, perception, communication, cyber, and application layers. It includes supervisory control and data acquisition, wide-area measurement systems, and advanced metering infrastructure for remote data aggregation, monitoring, and control operations. From an environmental perspective, these green technologies support two-way operations, which generate and transmit data over wired and wireless communication systems. This study investigates how social factors influence the likelihood of employing direct or indirect communication styles when correcting misinformation on social media in two different cultural contexts, the United Kingdom (UK) and the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. We conducted an online survey, supported by vignettes, that involved 686 participants, 367 from the UK and 319 from the Arab GCC countries. Participants were presented with a misinformation scenario and asked about their likelihood of using direct or indirect communication styles to correct their acquaintances. This systematic review explores the ethical challenges associated with the use of AI-based chatbots in higher education, focusing on their implications for students, educators, institutions, and administrative stakeholders. Following PRISMA guidelines, peer-reviewed literature published between 2014 and 2024 was systematically identified across eight major academic databases, yielding a total of 109 eligible studies. A thematic analysis of the included literature indicates that concerns related to academic integrity are most frequently discussed, alongside recurring issues involving data privacy and security, algorithmic bias, overreliance on automated systems, and the risk of inaccurate or misleading outputs. We examine the impact of CEOs’ public charity affiliations on corporate labor violations and find that public-charity-affiliated CEOs have a lower likelihood of engaging in labor violations than their non-affiliated peers. In a disaggregated analysis, we find the result to be driven primarily by wage and hour violations. This finding is validated when we compare changes in wage and hour violations around different types of CEO turnover. We further identify the promotion of a positive corporate culture and an increase in labor-related expenditures as the main channels through which CEOs’ public charity affiliations affect wage and hour violations. Objectives This study characterizes the epidemiological trends and resistance profiles of respiratory tract infections (RTIs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 2010 to 2022, aiming to inform national control strategies. Method We conducted a retrospective observational study of RTI cases across 345 UAE healthcare settings using data from the national surveillance network. Pathogen identification and resistance profiling were performed using advanced diagnostics and standardized antimicrobial susceptibility testing, in accordance with Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. Blockchain platforms have revolutionized the food industry by establishing a more trustworthy supply chain. By providing a secure and open record of all transactions, blockchain technology helps improve food safety. This reassures consumers who may wish to ensure that products are guaranteed to meet certain dietary or nutritional standards. However, the adaptability of existing supply chains and consumers' full adoption of such systems remains a gap in scholarly research.
