Discussions of electronic modes of publication typically focus on new business models, open access, OAI protocols, and retaining the authority of the peer review process in a world increasingly relying on crowdsourcing. This presentation focuses on a less-discussed but very fundamental aspect of the epub revolution in scholarly communication: the evolution of codex-based monographs, and articles to the next form. Online students are already online so it's an easy segue to use cloud-based apps; but what about face-to-face instruction? This session will explore best practices for classroom instruction (both F2F and online) and explore the use of several cloud-based applications that may prove valuable to learners and instructors, whether they're enrolled in online or on-ground classes. Among the apps that will be discussed are tools for handling student Q&A, providing collections of online readings, displaying data, gathering student feedback, creating online course materials, and more.

Increasing efforts to find and study habitable conditions and the possibility of life on extraterrestrial cosmic bodies have also deepened the need for planetary protection advancements to prevent possibilities of forward and backward contamination. Despite stringent precautions to ensure spacecraft cleanliness, a number of spore-forming bacteria, including the biofilm forming strain, Bacillus horneckiae have been isolated from spacecraft associated surfaces. B. horneckiae spores have demonstrated unusually high resistance to rigorous sterilization procedures, and extreme conditions, including intense UV radiation. This exceptionally high tolerance of extreme conditions demonstrated by spore-forming bacteria highlighted the need to assess the viability of these microbes …

Decision-making in relation to threatened species and ecological communities, especially when the ubiquitous ‘listing’ may be the required outcome to attract a conservation response, is particularly susceptible to challenges over methodology.

MPNSTs are rare malignancies that are classically associated with pre-existing plexiform neurofibromas in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) patients, but also occur in association with radiation as well as sporadically in patients with no known risk factors. The typical presentation of sporadic MPNST is a new painless enlarging mass. The typical presentation of MPNST in an NF-1 patient is rapid enlargement or new onset of pain associated with a pre-existing plexiform neurofibroma. Although both MPNST and benign neurofibromas share in common the absence of neurofibromin function due to loss of both NF-1 alleles, malignant transformation to MPNST requires several additional aberrations, …

A great deal of the professional literature is devoted to developing content and faculty buy-in for institutional repositories. However, little is known about the end users of these repositories. This is unfortunate since great content is of little value if no one uses it and knowing more about users and their needs leads to more relevant content. So, we need to ask ourselves: "Who exactly is using this stuff, anyway?" Since 2010, Utah State University has begun surveying its IR users to answer this question.
