Winter And Spring Soil Co2 Efflux Along Trans-Alaska Pipeline, Alaska, Yongwon Kim

3-year winter and spring soil CO2 efflux was conducted in several sites along the trans-Alaska pipeline, Alaska during winter and spring seasons of 2010 to 2012. During the spring, the snow was disappeared mostly fast in the surrounding of tree such as white spruce (Picea glauca) and black spruce (Picea mariana) in boreal forest of Alaska. On the other hand, in tundra, the snow-covered tussock tundra was firstly exposed due to the topography. In white spruce forest, 4-directional soil CO2 efflux is higher east, south, west, and north in turn. Soil temperature is a crucial role in determining soil CO2 …

Changes in climate are affecting tree growth, fire regimes and the geographic ranges of species (Beck et al. 2011; Kelly et al. 2013). Increasing our understanding of how boreal tree species respond to climate warming is critical for predicting the future states of the boreal forest and assessing the global impacts of these changes. Black spruce (Picea mariana [Mill.] B.S.P.) is the most abundant tree species in the Interior Alaskan boreal forest. Although it grows in a variety of community types (Hollingsworth et al. 2006), it is the only tree species found at the coldest, wettest sites on the landscape. …

The primary goal of the Peer Mentoring Guide is to develop fourth year medical students (MS-4s) into mentors for first year medical students (MS-1s). The purpose of this resource is to provide others who want to develop a peer mentoring program as part of an advanced students-as-teachers curriculum.

The George Washington University was one of the first schools to have a program to prepare medical students for their teaching role as residents and practicing physicians, which was called TALKS (Teaching and Learning Knowledge and Skills). From June 2010 until the present, a suite of online reusable learning objects (RLOs) has been created at the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) library covering a range of information literacy (IL) competencies. These RLOs have helped to facilitate student transition from second to third level, advance IL and enrich the student learning experience. The paper outlines the development of these resources, how these learning objects have been integrated into academic modules at ITT Dublin and how they have been shared and reused as open educational resources at national and international level.
