Peer To Peer Connections: Student Ambassador Team Encourage Belonging Through Library Supports And Services, Amy Odwarka
All Faculty Scholarship
Libraries are an integral support system for students within a university organization, serving a unique purpose for students as they reinforce both academic and social emotional needs, ultimately lending to persistence, retention and graduation efforts. Academic libraries are also a third place in the lives of many students, helping them find their people and make community on campus. Over the last three years, faculty librarian Amy Odwarka from Mary J. Booth Library at Eastern Illinois University collaborated with students to build a robust student driven engagement team, the Library Ambassadors of Booth (the LAB), encouraging peer to peer communication and …

Open Education As A Tool For Trans And Gender Diverse Inclusion, Stephen Krueger
Open Education As A Tool For Trans And Gender Diverse Inclusion, Stephen Krueger
Library Presentations
There has been little attention given to gender diversity in the open education world so far. But OER and open pedagogy have the potential to be extraordinary tools for supporting trans and gender diverse students: removing cost barriers for a population with extremely high poverty rates, adapting resources to include current and localized information about healthcare and law, and highlighting trans and gender diverse voices. This session will offer an overview of the relationship between open education and gender inclusion. It will also touch on ways in which widespread practices in open education do not serve trans and gender diverse …

Navigating Solo Librarianship In A Health Sciences Setting, Emily Roberts
Navigating Solo Librarianship In A Health Sciences Setting, Emily Roberts
Posters and Presentations
Solo librarianship can be both rewarding and isolating, especially in a specialized health sciences environment where the librarian is responsible for a full spectrum of services. I will discuss my experiences of solo librarianship at one of only a handful of special libraries dedicated to developmental disabilities in the United States. This unique setting required balancing niche subject expertise, information literacy instruction, and user advocacy, all while navigating limited resources and institutional visibility.
I will discuss the importance of leveraging cross-departmental relationships, partnering with broader library networks, and explore how to advocate for library services in a clinical and research-focused …

Empowering Communities: How Outreach Creates Open-Access Resources, Stanley Mierzwa, Stanley Mierzwa
Open Access Conference
This session explores how community outreach can become a powerful engine for creating open-access resources. We will highlight real-world examples from a Cybersecurity Center, where outreach activities have been transformed into freely available materials for the global community.
Outreach is a win-win scenario. It offers immediate and tangible benefits to the local community while simultaneously building a valuable, free repository of resources. By sharing our successful initiatives, we provide a blueprint for others to learn from, adapt, and implement similar programs in their own environments. Join us to discover how empowering your community can also enrich the open-access …
The Art Of Selection - Telling Stories Through Sound, Alexander Foley
The Art Of Selection - Telling Stories Through Sound, Alexander Foley
Staff Scholarship - Australia & Dubai
The presentation set out to educate novice and intermediate DJs the importance of track selection in a DJ set. This is a skill that elevates a good DJ to a great DJ. It addresses issues that some DJs have when trying to read a crowd or curate a pre planned set. The presentation was given at SAE Dubai's annual DJ symposium to a live audience using slides and audio examples. The presentation was well received and many of the audience had questions and seemed to take away a better understanding of an often underrated element of being a successful DJ. …

How To Dump Dewey: Developing Your Own Classification Scheme, Emily Roberts
How To Dump Dewey: Developing Your Own Classification Scheme, Emily Roberts
Posters and Presentations
As librarians, we frequently encounter challenges with classification systems such as Dewey Decimal because they do not always meet the specific needs of our collections, spaces, and patrons. This presentation will delve into creating customized classification schemes for public, school, and special libraries to organize materials better and streamline staff and patron use. I will provide examples of various tools, strategies, and methods for altering or replacing traditional classification systems. Additionally, rationales for creating your own classification scheme and the pros and cons of doing so will be explored. UNM’s Center for Development and Disability special library will be used …

Ai In Medical Practice And Education: A Work In Progress, John Westhoff
AI in the Classroom: A Virtual Summit
At the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, we’ve been working for the past two years to integrate AI into pre-clinical medical education in ways that prepare students for the tools and challenges of future AI-augmented clinical practice. This includes formal curricular workshop exposure and guided experimentation with AI in data-driven capstone projects. In addition, ongoing projects include the pilot of a research design and workflow tool and the integration of ambient documentation into our simulation center. This session will reflect on what we’ve done, what we’re building toward, and what we’ve learned along the way, shaped by ever …
Changes To Utah State University's Open Access Fund, David Advent, Yassin Nacer
Changes To Utah State University's Open Access Fund, David Advent, Yassin Nacer
Library Faculty & Staff Presentations
Utah State University (USU) Libraries established an open access (OA) fund in 2012 with the goal of helping USU authors offset the costs of publishing OA articles. The fund proved to be enormously popular, and funds were expended quickly each year—most recently being exhausted in less than 72 hours. In recognition of this unsustainability, as well as concerns about the rapidly changing role of OA and copyright in scholarly publishing, USU Libraries initiated significant changes to the fund. This lightning talk will share how we identified and assessed challenges with the existing OA fund, the modifications we implemented, our plans …
Innovative Machine Learning Approach For Predicting The In Vitro Mao Coated Magnesium-Based Substrate, Abdelrahman Amin, Hamdy Ibrahim, Ibrahim Awad
Innovative Machine Learning Approach For Predicting The In Vitro Mao Coated Magnesium-Based Substrate, Abdelrahman Amin, Hamdy Ibrahim, Ibrahim Awad
UTC Spring Research and Arts Conference
The increasing number of orthopedic surgeries due to various reasons has driven demand for improved implant materials beyond conventional Ti–Ni alloys, which can cause stress shielding and other complications. Magnesium-based implants have gained attention due to their biocompatibility, bone-like mechanical properties, and controllable degradation rates using different approaches. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) offers an effective means to enhance corrosion resistance by forming a protective ceramic layer, with process parameters significantly influencing degradation behavior. This study presents a machine learning approach to predict the in vitro corrosion performance of MAO-coated magnesium implants, enabling efficient optimization of process parameters and improved implant design.
