Adverse Childhood Experiences And Diet Quality In Young African American Women: A Descriptive Analysis Of A Community-Based Survey, Thilini Fernando, Sparkle Springfield Phd
Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium
Background: High exposure to ACEs (4+) is associated with an increased risk of CVD and poorer health behaviors in adulthood. However, evidence is limited in young adults2-4. Aims. To describe diet quality and exposure to ACEs in AA women aged 18-35 years old. Methods: Descriptive analysis of survey data collected in self-identified AA women aged 18-35 (N=512). Assessments included self-reported ACE exposure (4+ indicates high risk) and WELL Diet score (range 0-120; higher score = better diet quality). Results: XX% of our sample reported high ACEs exposure. Mean Well Diet score was xx (sd:) out of …

The Great Divide On Vulnerability: Dating Applications Vs. Reality, Joseph Adams
The Great Divide On Vulnerability: Dating Applications Vs. Reality, Joseph Adams
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
Many turn to technology for self-expression as they connect with others with the same values. Unfortunately, many people lose their self-expression skills in the non-digital world and communicate their intimate intents with others through dating applications like Hinge. However, dating apps (like the one mentioned) are scientifically proven to cause users psychological distress, anxiety, depression, or self-image issues. Though we cannot change people’s communicational customs, we can discover ways to close the gap between the digital and real-world when verbalizing intimate feelings. My method for collecting results includes taking a qualitative analysis through creating a survey that will decipher the …

The Effect On Embry-Riddle’S Sustainability If Current And Future Buildings Are Certified As Leed On The Daytona Beach, Fl Campus, Andres Munevar, Ahmad M. Ibrahim
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
Embry-Riddle has asserted itself as an innovative, STEM-driven university. Throughout Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, there is a mix of modern and dated buildings-- this is true both in architecture and sustainability measures. Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus must take measures to preserve its community by implementing more sustainable practices such as transitioning all buildings to LEED (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Buildings. The aim of this project is to convert the Lehman College of Engineering, Mori Hosseini Student Union, and Doolittle Hall to LEED Certified Buildings, while integrating the three pillars of sustainability: economics, social science, and environmentalism. These …
Impact Of Caffeine Supplements On Air Traffic Controller Situational Awareness, Garrett Noltemeyer
Impact Of Caffeine Supplements On Air Traffic Controller Situational Awareness, Garrett Noltemeyer
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
The effect that caffeine produces on the situational awareness and decision-making of air traffic controllers can provide a significant reduction in air traffic incidents. Air traffic incidents that currently take place in the National Airspace System (NAS) are infrequent but do cause significant damage to human life and property when they occur. These incidents tend to involve human error majority of the time, and more specifically, lack of situational awareness. This issue can be addressed in a multitude of ways, but this study specifically tests the application of caffeine supplements for air traffic controllers and its effect on the participants …
Study Of A Supersonic Magnetized Plasma Jet With A Magnetic Probe Array, Christopher Lamb, Byonghoon Seo Dr.
Study Of A Supersonic Magnetized Plasma Jet With A Magnetic Probe Array, Christopher Lamb, Byonghoon Seo Dr.
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
Presented is a method to observe magnetic field strengths in a three-dimensional volume above a pulsed plasma source. This source will produce a plasma which exhibits phenomena under investigation: plasma instabilities and magnetic reconnection. They are processes in which a portion of magnetic field energy is transferred into kinetic or thermal energy of a plasma. By observing the topology of the magnetic field at different locations over many pulses, a three-dimensional vector space can be built up of the plasma as it evolves over time. The magnetic field observations will be performed with a calibrated magnetic field probe array (MPA). …

Ergonomic Assessment Of A Barista, Miguel Bastos, John Kleber
Discovery Day - Daytona Beach
Highly repetitive manual tasks such as those performed by a barista can put workers at risk of developing Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs). These disorders can cause both short-term and long-term pain for workers and come at high financial costs for employers. The purpose of this case study is the evaluation of potential risk associated with tasks performed by baristas and to provide recommendations for limiting the potential development of these disorders. This case study focused on a barista working in Texas. The subject is a 24-year-old female who has worked as a barista for over a year. The Rapid Entire …
