Analyzing the aerospace and automotive industries, there is a transition to sustainable energy generation. Aiming to bridge industrial emissions with the worldwide net zero goal by 2050, one widely considered solution for long-range drones and small aircraft is compact turbo-shaft engines combusting clean hydrogen gas to produce shaft work. The small size and energy-dense fuel allow for a universal powerplant with high specific power output that fits a wide variety of existing solutions. One such micro-sized turboshaft internal combustion engine was created to test the potential power output, thermal management, and combustor optimization of the existing stainless steel assembly. For many years media literacy has addressed ways of verifying information, and information literacy has addressed finding information and understanding its production. But today’s social media takes us out of the realm of standard information sources to open, online discussion. The volatility of these environments suggests the need for social media literacy that complements both media and information literacy. Design Of A Test Stand To Support Materials Testing And Process Development In An Ultra-High-Temperature Infrared Imaging Furnace, Amber Su

Summer Interdisciplinary Research Symposium

The Solar Energy Research Group at Valparaiso University recently acquired an Infrared Imaging Furnace (IR Furnace) to support materials testing and process development research. By using gold-plated, parabolic reflectors to concentrate infrared radiation from Tungsten lamps to a line focus, the furnace is able to heat samples to temperatures exceeding 1400℃ at rates up to 1000℃/min, significantly faster than conventional high-temperature furnaces. Furthermore, with no need for insulation and with active cooling, significant cooling rates can be achieved, even exceeding 1000℃/min. Vitamin D Insufficiency And Coronary Artery Disease, Alexandra Koontz

Summer Interdisciplinary Research Symposium

Objective: The objective of this research is to determine if patients with a vitamin D insufficiency have an increased risk of coronary artery disease when compared to patients with optimal vitamin D levels.

Methods: Two data bases, PubMed and Science Direct were searched for studies evaluating vitamin D levels and coronary artery disease. After applying an inclusion and exclusion criteria there were a total of five studies which included a total of 4,925 participants that met criteria and analyzed the relationship of vitamin D and heart disease.

Results: Deficient vitamin D levels are negatively correlated with coronary artery disease …
