The first few days of a new semester are anxiety-producing for all students. Our trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming students come to our classes carrying all the standard student worries plus fears that they will be outed, misgendered, misnamed, excluded from examples, and/or unable to find convenient restrooms. So many of our normalized teaching practices, especially during introductory sessions, inadvertently exclude or objectify trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming individuals or reinforce essentialized and binary gender norms. During the summer of 2023, librarians at the University of Rochester encouraged use of the LabArchives for Education module by introducing it to librarians and faculty. We did an environmental scan of the literature and the vendor website to glean benefits and challenges of using this tool. All liaison librarians were encouraged to get accounts and play with the tool. We started hosting vendor provided webinars and inviting discussion. I'll share the process and results of our efforts.

Vitamin D₃ is an important chemical in the human body, however, many Americans have low levels of this vitamin. There are plenty of oral supplementations for Vitamin D₃ deficiency, but those of older age and busy schedules may struggle to meet the minimum requirement. A recently developed ethosomal transmembrane delivery system (Touitou, 2000), similar to liposomes but also containing ethanol, allows users to apply a gel dermally and have the desired drug or active ingredient reach the bloodstream faster. We plan to survey at least 100 students at Harrisburg university, where there is a very large gaming community, about their tendencies towards certain video game genres to collect the necessary categorical data. Separating the data into different genres serves to help our audience better visualize the disparity in representation between men and non-men in these genres and the studies based on them. By demonstrating the disproportion in the number of non-men versus men who play the popularly studied genres, we hope to shed light on how underrepresented non-men are in the video-game research community. In restorative practices, harmed parties have the opportunity to tell those responsible how they have been affected. Those responsible can gain empathy and understanding — not only for those directly affected, but for family, friends, co-workers and others. Then, the responsible parties have a chance to make amends and shed the "offender" label, hopefully breaking the cycle of violence, misbehavior and/or disruption.

Machine learning seems to be newly everywhere. It's not new, so much as faster processing makes it newly useful. Imagine an automated cataloging program that takes 300 years to run, versus one that takes a week to run. Increased processing speed is a substantive change. This presentation overviews the history of libraries and artificial intelligence. First, teasing out past applications of machine learning in libraries. High quality results and concrete applications of artificial intelligence in libraries have been explored and published for decades. Over time, faster processing allows use at scale. Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT have potential as student research tools, yet they generally do not cite sources or may invent them, presenting a challenge of information disconnected from any source. This presentation applied pieces of the Association of College and Research Libraries’ Framework for Information Literacy to analyze this challenge and suggest opportunities to use discussions around the use of generative AI to make students more reflective researchers and consumers of information.

This lightning talk was presented by the Scholarly Communications Coordinator and the Scholarly Communications Student Supervisor from Brigham Young University at the Digital Commons North American Conference 2023. It provides an overview of how student workers at the BYU Library are involved in Digital Commons projects and discusses the types of projects and processes that students work on, including an outline of student supervisor responsibilities. The purpose of the presentation is to get other Digital Commons administrators excited about expanding the possibilities of their repositories by collaborating with student workers.

DCX provides users an easily navigable platform with seemingly static design options for digital exhibit development. Our lightning talk will focus on leveraging the features within DCX to create more customizable options that can be implemented within the design of digital exhibits. We will explore lessons learned through the creation of our virtual exhibit, ‘“Men of Unsullied Reputation:’ The Founders of the Medical College.” Key insights will include using HTML for formatting, importing items from Digital Commons to increase page hierarchy capacity, and utilizing Canva to enhance branding capabilities.

Like many libraries, the Georgia Southern University Libraries (GS Libraries) rely on tools to support library services which are run on in-house servers. The servers are run by main campus Information Technology Services (ITS), and ITS is not familiar with how each piece of software is used and how it is supposed to work. ITS monitors the basic high level server architecture but does not work with the actual applications installed on these servers.

Macroinvertebrates are key indicators of aquatic health. We surveyed 3 distinct locations in the Appomattox River basin to gather data regarding conductivity and water temperature correlation on species diversity among three locations. There were significant correlations between species diversity and conductivity.
