Using a narrative approach (Clandinin & Connelly, 2004; Kim, 2016) to collect stories and explore the meaning six fine arts school graduates found in their arts-integrated learning (AIL) experiences in their science classes, vignettes (Seidman, 2019) of participants were developed to tell their stories and maintain the context (Maxwell & Miller, 2008) of their unique experiences while coding and categorizing strategies were used during data analysis to construct four themes that ran across participant experiences. This study addresses the critical need for systematic tools in teacher education programs to teach and assess High Leverage Practices (HLPs) effectively. While HLPs are established as foundational teaching practices, varying levels of research support their efficacy. Rubrics, widely used in higher education, are underexplored in terms of validity and reliability in education. Authentic assessment, characterized by real-life tasks, offers a solution to academic misconduct while providing learners with autonomy and engagement. Should We Teach Handwriting In Elementary School? A Meta-Analysis, John Hobe

Should we teach handwriting during elementary school? This complex activity is

debated and left out of some elementary school curriculums. Babarro & Perez

Lopez (2022) provide evidence explaining handwriting should be taught in

elementary school using a meta-analysis and meta-synthesis of research from

2000 to 2020. The authors selected 31 studies including 2,030 students in grades

kindergarten through 6. When compared to no instruction different handwriting

interventions yielded a 0.64 effect size. Strategies used to improve handwriting

fluency provided a 0.49 effect size. Hemphill (2003) supplied quantitatively based

guidelines from two meta-analyses to explain an effect size of .30 and …

Stability And Crisis Response: Comparing The U.S. And Canadian Banking Systems, Sarah E. Boslaugh

In 2007-08, the United States experienced a banking crisis, as 5 of the 6 other G-7 countries. The exception? Canada, which experienced only a mild recession, with no bank failures or government bank bailouts. Further research reveals that while banking crises have been commonplace in the United States (8 occurred in the 19th century alone), they are essentially nonexistent in Canadian history. I find that the primary reasons for these differences in national experience lie not in the strictness of government regulation or the qualifications demanded of borrowers in the two countries, but in the differing structures of the banking …

Investigations into aDNA offer a window into the past that modern DNA and paleontological studies alone cannot provide and help address the evolution and connections between hominids, domestication timelines, the analysis of populations over time, and general diversity. Progress in aDNA research has been inherently technology-driven, with modern molecular biology methods, such as the inventions of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), substantially increasing the analysis possibilities of aDNA. However, it has rarely been tested and pushed to its limits in other settings. The main focus of this project was trying to deploy augmented reality in settings that are seen as more traditional. Communities across the United States face a housing crisis that stems in part from a scarcity of conventional home mortgage loans. In 2020, the Urban Institute reported that when applying for a mortgage, Black applicants were denied 27.1% of the time, yet White applicants were denied only 13.6% of the time. These denial rates are highly correlated with homeownership rates. Today, despite policy efforts, the difference in White and Black homeownership rates is higher than in the 1960s when the government enforced discriminatory housing policy.

Building on a recent serious of high level electronic structure studies of Lewis acid gas reactions with metal oxide sorbents, DFT (B3LYP and ωB97X-D) and CCSD(T) methods are being used to predict the Lewis acid-base addition (physisorption) and formation of metal oxide carbonate/thiocarbonate formation (chemisorption) reactions of CS2, OCS, and CO2 of CS2, OCS, and CO2 with Group IV (MO2)n and Group VI (MO3)n (n = 1 - 3) nanoclusters. For the Group IV oxides, chemisorption to form terminal carbonates and thiocarbonates is predicted to be the most favored, with thiocarbonate ligand binding energies slightly more exothermic than their carbonate …

The existence of the coyote in the eastern U.S. is a recent development and the public’s perception of coyotes has been widely studied in urban areas. However, perceptions in rural areas, especially rural Appalachia, have been largely unstudied. Using Poetics and Technology to Inform Pre-Service Educators’ Transformative Pedagogy via Innovative Sociocultural Interactivities

During the HICE workshop my colleague and I will demonstrate and engage HICE participants through learner centered practices we developed and studied during the Covid pandemic. We embedded oral and written poetic expression with a variety of technological practices to offer pre-service educators creative opportunities to learn and participate in the course through unique expressive movements, music, and media during on-line instruction. These approaches will show how to create a culture of care and Social Justice in a synchronous online classroom.
