Background: Homelessness significantly impacts emotional, physical, and social well-being, often stripping individuals of their sense of purpose and damaging their relationships. This quality improvement project explored the use of spiritual interventions to address these multidimensional challenges among homeless populations. Methodology: A faith-based tool- kit was created and implemented to integrate lessons, resources, and hands-on activities centered on emotional, physical, sense of purpose, and fostering positive relationships. Women aged 25 to 60 at the Light House Shelter participated in a 1-2 hour group session that included a lesson, educational handouts, and a hands-on activity. This comprehensive toolkit provides educators with everything they need to seamlessly integrate mindfulness practices into their teaching routines, regardless of prior experience. The toolkit includes introductory slides, 15 ready-to-use meditation scripts, and accompanying audio recordings, covering a variety of mindfulness techniques such as focused breathing, body scans, and loving-kindness meditations. Food forests are regenerative agricultural systems designed to support people and wildlife, with Indigenous knowledge and practices often guiding their stewardship. The Ursinus College Food Forest (UCFF) at the Whittaker Environmental Research Station is one such system. As a relatively young “living-learning laboratory”, the UCFF serves to connect student stewards, other students from the College, community visitors, and the Lenape people to many food and material-producing plants. The UCFF also functions to strengthen the College’s reconciliation with the Lenape people, upon whose unceded ancestral land our campus and the site are situated. Summer Interdisciplinary Research Symposium

Objective: Treatment resistant depression (TRD) affects many individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). This paper aims to compare the efficacy of ketamine in comparison to previously established treatment options such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Methods: Recent literature was used to conduct a systematic review and compare ketamine, ECT, and TMS, in the management of TRD. Studies within the last five years were included and made use of both randomized control trials and retrospective cohort studies. Primary endpoints were measured using depression rating scales such as HAMD, MADRS, CGI, QIDS, and BDI. Results: Ketamine demonstrated …

Objective: The objective of this paper is to determine if antipsychotic (AP) drug usage in the elderly population, specifically with elderly who have dementia, has a significant effect on the morbidity and mortality of this select population.

Methods: In this paper the articles included: 2 meta-analysis, 1 prospective cohort, 1 matched cohort study, 1 randomized control trial, and a systematic review that included studies about patients using AP drugs, and studies with patients with dementia.

UCGretina is a program that is used to simulate the Gretina gamma-ray tracking array used in experiments at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) to collect gamma rays produced in reactions such as proton scattering. This is done by generating a simulation of the beam particles used and sending them into a simulated recreation that mimics the experimental environment. My job this summer was to tackle a major issue that the program had which is the speed or efficiency at which it ran. While COVID lockdown measures have had varying effects on the mental health of different demographics, several bodies of research have noted their disparate effect on women. Why is women's mental health more negatively impacted by lockdown measures, and how much more are they impacted than men? How can we predict and mitigate these negative effects on women? This paper aims to contribute to answering those questions by comparing COVID stringency measures and their effect on the gap in depression rates between men and women in two neighboring countries: Nicaragua and Honduras.

The digital transformations currently happening on the net, in cloud computing, and now through generative AI tools- have far-reaching consequences for many disciplines. These transformations have been crosscutting and reconvening boundaries that hitherto defined the information science fields- including their glossaries. This presentation will examine the often overlapping- and sometimes confusing- key archival science terms of documents, records, and data and their etymological metamorphosis within a short period of time due to extraordinary developments in the digital domain space. The presenter concludes with remarks on the ease of archival access, or the lack of it, in a complicated digital world.

The presentation explores the use of artificial intelligence singing software in the compositional exploration of spiritual concepts. Synthesiser V is used as a "virtual singer" throughout the composition. This technology represents a shift in resources akin to the availability of sampled orchestral instruments, with the added factors of presenting the "composer's voice". This is significant as the author is autistic and has alexithymia, so the questions around the link between the compiser's emotion and the expression of a synthetic voice are relevant.

Spearheaded by the UCF Libraries' Evidence Synthesis Group, activities have included developing resource guides, collaborating with faculty on systematic, scoping, and qualitative reviews, and attending professional training institutes. Polysubstance use among young people has recently become the focus of popular media, public health interventions, and research due to alarming increases in polysubstance use-related morbidity and mortality in younger age groups. Data in Canada and the U.S. indicates that morbidity and mortality due to polysubstance use among youth is increasing. Researchers have shown that adult-focused interventions for polysubstance use cannot simply be ‘mapped onto’ youth, as young people occupy lifeworlds distinct from those of older adults. Adult-focused interventions may be irrelevant and not efficacious for youth. Further, some researchers have argued there need to more gender-targeted interventions to attenuate …

One way that some libraries attempt to improve their services to trans and gender diverse patrons is by encouraging employees to attend a Trans 101 workshop or equivalent. But this alone isn’t enough; it needs follow-up and long-term commitment to actually make a library inclusive for people of all genders. In this session, the presenter (who has led many trans inclusion workshops and presentations for libraries) will address the limitations of current attempts at trans and gender diverse inclusion in libraries, and offer strategies for building on these to more meaningfully integrate gender inclusion into library work.
