Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is an aerosol-transmitted disease that primarily affects the lungs, with active infection presenting as fever, night sweats, weight loss, and productive cough. While it is prevalent worldwide, there may be a lower degree of clinical suspicion in developed countries where it remains uncommon. Therefore, it is important to focus on certain risk factors (travel history, immunosuppression, certain living conditions) in the patient workup. Objective: This narrative review examines advancements in sacroiliac joint (SIJ) dysfunction treatments and current protocols, focusing on patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (h-EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), while also considering other related pathologies. Background: SIJ dysfunction is common in patients with h-EDS and HSD, often causing lower back and pelvic pain, dislocations, and subluxations. Treatments are usually non-surgical and continuous regimens. Over the last 15 years, SIJ fusion has shown notable improvements in pain relief, disability reduction, and recovery times. Surgical thyroid storm can pose an emergent operative and postoperative complication that mimics the presentation of myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, and cerebrovascular accidents. Prior to modern agriculture, the plains of North and South Dakota were once a mixed grass prairie with millions of small ponds and wetlands. These wetlands provide summer breeding habitat for countless numbers of migrating bird species. Through the work of conservation organizations and Federal agencies, many of these wetlands have been restored across the Dakotas, Prairie Minnesota, and Iowa. This project focused on locating a county in an area of critical breeding habitat that has had, thus far, limited restoration of these small wetlands and determing their extent and quality using a Geographic Information System (GIS).

Osteosarcoma, the most common type of bone cancer, is notably aggressive and prone to a rapid rate of metastasis. When the tumor is localized; the survival rate is approximately 76% and can often be treated with surgery. However, once metastasis occurs, the survival rate drops to 24% and must be treated with chemotherapy. The standard treatment for metastatic osteosarcoma typically involves combination therapeutics, with cisplatin being a key component despite its severe side effects. Unfortunately, osteosarcoma exhibits a natural resistance to chemotherapy driven by the overexpression of drug efflux pumps, DNA repair mechanisms, and apoptosis avoidance mutations. The Impact Of Library Visits On Undergraduate Student Gpa: The Vital Role Of The Library As A Contributor To Student Success, Myra Bloom, Mark Hall, Angela Sample

College of Science and Engineering Faculty Research and Scholarship

This study investigates the relationship between the frequency of student library visits and their academic performance. Library card swipe entry data during the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters were anonymized and filtered to include only undergraduate residential students aged 17 and older. Semester GPA scores were correlated with the data resulting in a dataset of 3,340 student records. Comprehensive quantitative analysis reveals a significant correlation between library visits and GPAs. The findings demonstrate that increased visits to the library contribute to higher academic achievement, highlighting the library's essential role as a crucial space for student success.

Importance Maternal periodontitis has been consistently linked to adverse birth outcomes. However, a causal relationship is not established due to potential unmeasured confounding factors in observational studies and inconclusive results from randomized controlled trials.

Objective To assess the impact of unmeasured confounding factors in meta-analyses examining associations between maternal periodontal disease and preterm birth or low birth weight.

Data Sources PubMed/Medline, the Cochrane database for systematic reviews, Embase, Google Scholar, and a manual search of the reported references between 2002 and 2023.
