This all-day workshop provides a setting in which participants learn to use handheld instruments, conduct a building performance case study through structured methodology, develop hypothesis and investigation strategy formulation, are allowed behind-the-scenes building investigations, and make team presentations of study results to the workshop participants. Participants gain understanding of objective and subjective procedures for performing post-occupancy evaluations of building performance.

Arterial catheters are used in critical care units to continuously monitor blood pressures and to obtain blood samples without performing multiple venipunctures. For decades arterial catheters have been maintained with a pressurized heparinised 0.9% normal saline to prevent thrombus formation. The use of heparin for its pharmacological properties as an anticoagulant. Research evidence indicates that short term arterial lines may be maintained effectively and at a reduced cost by using normal saline instead of heparinised saline.

This study examined the relationship between diverse learning environments and students’ perceptions of their educational experiences within a large Northern Virginia public school system via quantitative, nonexperimental, survey methods. Five areas reflecting frequently established goals of education were explored: student diversity; curricular diversity; student learning and peer interaction, to include development of critical thinking skills; future educational aspirations; and goals and perceptions of support by the school. Subjects were 11th-grade high school students from across a selection of the 10 high schools in the subject school division. Increasing the consumption of whole grain foods is an immediate public health priority. Whole grains are rich in dietary fiber, antioxidants, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Americans of all ages do not eat enough of these foods to benefit from their potential to reduce the risk of certain cancers, diabetes and obesity. This course familiarizes students with Macromedia Flash. Topics to be covered include fundamental programming concepts (variables, variable types, code re-use, commenting code, and basic control structures) in addition to the fundamentals of the flash environment (animation or “tweening”, vector graphics, use of sound and video). Librarians at North Carolina State University have developed useful techniques for enhancing information literacy instruction through the systematic incorporation of concepts pertaining to scholarly communication and the economics surrounding information. This presentation describes ways to leveraging such concepts as the Deep Web, Google Scholar, the nature of scholarly communication, and the inflated costs of journal subscriptions to contextualize hands-on instruction in the use of library resources. Assessment data from open-ended quizzes and surveys positively reflects students’ attitudes towards this instruction and exposes the impact of such instruction on student understanding about how research is made available on the Web.

These equations have many applications to the everyday “non-math” world, including modeling in engineering, physics, biology, chemistry, and economics. Differential equations are used when a situation arises where one needs to study a continuously changing quantity (expressed as a function) and its rate of change (expressed through its derivatives). Music connects the analytical left side of the brain while uniting itself with the expressive right side of the brain.
