Latino/A English Language Learners: Closing Achievement/Opportunity Gaps To Increase College-Going Rates, Amy Cook, Rachelle Pérusse

By the 10th grade, 40% of adolescent Latinos/as drop out of school, with Latino/a English language learners (ELLs) dropping out at an even higher rate. A survey-based study conducted in the Northeast revealed many evidence-based interventions that school counselors implement on behalf of Latino/a ELLs to improve academic achievement. This session will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work with some of the most challenging cases involving Latino/a ELLs and how to close achievement/opportunity gaps. Discussion and sharing information about various school counselor practices will be encouraged.

Dr. R. Phillip Dellinger is a Professor of Medicine who holds a faculty appointment in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is also the Vice-Chair, Department of Medicine and the Director, Medical/Surgical/Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Cooper Medical Center in Camden New Jersey. In 2006-2007, he was selected as South Jersey Top Docs by South Jersey Magazine. Dr. Dellinger's interests are in the treatment and outcomes of septic shock.

For a decade, the cataloging world has relied upon the _Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd ed. revised_ to guide its work. As soon as July 2011, AACR2 might be replaced with a new cataloging code, Resource Description & Access (RDA)

RDA is still a work in progress, but this talk covers the main goals in greater detail and points out a couple of the major changes to our MARC records (major new fields and subfields) that appear in records already.

WorldCat Local (WCL) is examined specifically in relation to music-related searching. Updates regarding changes made to WCL since the Music OCLC User Group (MOUG) 2009/10 report are discussed and compared to the current searching capabilities of WCL. Other issues and observations not discussed in the MOUG report are also examined. This presentation was presented at the 2011 Music Library Association conference during the Music OCLC User Group (MOUG) meetings.

Conclusions:

Turning 2D CT/PET slices into 3D objects assists in understanding the topology surrounding tumor masses. Incorporating the visual and physical characteristics of a patient’s anatomy will provide surgeons with an informative pre-operative tool to plan and practice the operation before the first incision. Including haptic feedback provides a familiar 'feel' to surgeons as they palpate the target organ, trying to locate the tumor and determine how large a margin of resection will be needed. Taking its place alongside such core metaphors as culture, phenomenon, discourse, and narrative, identity has emerged as an important trope in qualitative research. Be it people's sense of themselves as members of a family, culture, corporation, or the world society, qualitative researchers are interested in learning how people come to define themselves within their varied contexts.
