The significance of exercise in promoting health and fitness cannot be overstated. In addition, various exercise modes can facilitate information processing and enhance cognition. The present study investigated the role of two volumes of circuit training using resistance exercise (Low Volume [LV-CTRE] of approximately 11 min and Higher Volume [HV-CTRE] of approximately 23 min) on the speed of information processing and executive function. Thirty adult male and female volunteers (18, male; 12, female) between the ages of 18-25 (mean [+ standard deviation]: 22.37 +2.06) were randomly recruited and assigned to either a non-exercise-control (CON), an LV-CTRE, or an HV-CTRE group. …

Background: Google Glass™ (Glass), a wearable augmented reality device is gaining popularity in healthcare education due to its portability, affordability, and usefulness, including offering a different vantage point and potential for remote training. We conducted this scoping review to determine its applications, effectiveness, and limitations in healthcare education.

Methods: Seven electronic databases were searched for relevant studies and reports using specified search terms. Two reviewers independently screened studies for eligibility, retrieved data, and compared results.

Results: The search yielded 2,019 articles. After removing duplicates, 1,576 titles, 877 abstracts, and 408 articles were screened; 78 articles were included in this review. …

Background

The World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergency Programme funded three rapid systematic reviews to inform development of guidance for emergency preparedness in health emergencies. The current review investigated the type of learning interventions that have been developed and used during health emergencies, and how they were designed and implemented.

Methods

Studies were included if they described just-in-time training to bridge a specific gap in knowledge or skills in a health emergency. Degree-building, institutional capacity-building, health workforce training, and general crisis preparedness were excluded. Short rotation woody crops (SRWCs) have potential to provide sustainable aviation fuels and exceptional carbon fiber for numerous products. However, many SRWCs are riparian species and measuring water use will ensure that large-scale plantations do not negatively impact surrounding hydrology. Traditionally, willows (Salix spp.) have been important SRWCs in cooler regions like northern Europe and the northeastern US. However, black willow (Salix nigra Marshall) is native to the southeastern US and could be grown in sites that are marginal for poplar (Populus) including heavy clay soils that tend to remain flooded into the growing season. Coal strip mining has left widespread degraded soils throughout the southeastern US. These soils tend to have low pH, high bulk density, impacted hydrologic processes, and an accumulation of heavy metals that limit revegetation efforts. Shortleaf pine (Pinus echinata) is an ideal species for these reforestation efforts as it can tolerate the poor conditions on post-mined sites and has the largest native pine range in the southeastern US, overlapping with many post-mined areas. Inducible defence strategies evolve in response to temporally and spatially variable predation risk. Selection should favour the expression of these strategies when risk crosses a threshold, but expression may also depend on how effective a given strategy is across different contexts (e.g., social environment). For neotropical harvestmen, aggregation behaviour has been shown to be a group-level defence strategy but can be supplemented by additional behaviour to enhance antipredator defence. A secondary behavioural strategy termed “bobbing” has been documented as being associated with gregarious behaviour, in which individuals rapidly move their bodies up and down. This study analyzed articles edited in courses at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and the University of Central Florida (UCF). UCSF students received instruction on the Hemingway Editor, while UCF students did not.
