The First Emancipation was a grassroots movement that resulted in slavery being mostly eliminated in the North by 1830. Without this movement, it is unlikely that slavery would have been banned in the United States by 1865. The First Emancipation is not only a fascinating but little known part of our nation's history, but can also be used as a case study to illustrate how firmly entrenched, but immoral practices can be changed over time. In January 2015, an intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within the footprint of proposed improvements to East Pecan Street in Pflugerville, Travis County, Texas. The portion of the project area that includes the widening extends from State Highway (SH) 130 to Weiss Lane; base repairs would include a concrete underlay that would extend east of Weiss Lane toward the intersection of Cameron Lane. In July 2015 Deep East Texas Archaeological Consultants (DETAC) conducted a cultural resource management survey of the proposed Cross Roads Special Utility District’s US Highway 259 water well in Rusk County, Texas under Texas Antiquities Permit #7433. Proposed construction includes clearing and leveling a 0.4 hectare (1.0 acre) property to drill a water well and associated pumping structures. The visual inspection of the area found a dilapidated building which was used as a plant shop in the 1970’s or later. On June 2–3, 2014, Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an archeological survey for proposed drainage improvements along a ca. 2,800-foot (ft) (853 meter [m]) segment of the Sixmile Creek channel downstream from Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. Desktop research and an earlier field reconnaissance found that the Area of Potential Effects (APE) has little to no potential of yielding significant archeological resources based on the geologic and geomorphic setting and twentieth-century channel and landscape modifications. In late April, 2015, Archaeology Consultants, Inc., performed a cultural resources survey for the Donna Independent School District Aquatic Center and Walking Trail Project in Hidalgo County, Texas. About 6.65 acres was surveyed. The location of the project area within public school district property and within a region known to contain numerous archeological sites prompted the Texas Historical Commission to recommend the survey for compliance with the Antiquities Code of Texas. The Commission issued Texas Antiquities Permit 7163 for the survey.

All 15.3 km (9.5 mi) were examined and shovel tests were excavated in areas not disturbed by drainage ditches, road surfaces, or other buried utilities. TRC conducted an intensive, linear pedestrian survey of two proposed option routes for residential wastewater collectors for the Montana Vista Proposed Wastewater Facility System in East El Paso. The project area is located within El Paso County, Texas. The project proposes approximately 188,285 feet of 8-inch sewer lines throughout the residential streets, which will reach depths of approximately 25 feet. A proposed collection line will run along Greg Rd/Edgemere Blvd for approximately 13,150 feet. (Toll Brothers) on behalf of Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 137 (MCMUD137) to conduct an intensive archeological inventory survey and assessment of the approximately 5.8- hectare (14.3-acre) Doughtie West tract.
