Faculty Research at Morehead State University
This guidebook was produced for participants of the Sixth Gondwana Symposium held at the Institute of Polar Studies in August 1985. The trip traverses the highly scenic Appalachian Plateau. Enroute to eastern Kentucky, nonmarine sandstone, mudstone, coal, and limestone of the Upper Carboniferous to Permian (?) Dunkard Group, and Upper Carboniferous Monongahela and Conemaugh Formations will be examined in southern Ohio and western West Virginia. In eastern Kentucky, examination of the rocks will proceed up through the sequence starting with the Lower Carboniferous Berea Sandstone, a shallow marine deposit with abundant sedimentary structures; followed by the Borden Formation, which represents …

A Study Of The Relationship Between High School Graduation Requirements And Student A.C.T. Assessment Scores In Public High Schools In The State Of Michigan, William M. Pritchard
Dissertations
The literature has pointed toward changes in high school curriculum as a contributor to the decline of standardized test scores during the 1960's and 1970's. During the past few years, many schools have increased graduation requirements in various subject areas in an effort to increase learning on the part of students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the number of years of required study in various subject areas on student achievement.
The population that was studied included all public high schools in the State of Michigan. Two hundred thirty-eight schools were sampled from the population, …

Training Behavioral Assessment Interviewers: A Comparison Of Two Procedures, Raymond G. Miltenberger
Training Behavioral Assessment Interviewers: A Comparison Of Two Procedures, Raymond G. Miltenberger
Dissertations
Two procedures were used to teach behavioral assessment interviewing skills; a training manual and a one-to-one training procedure consisting of instructions, modeling, rehearsal and feedback. Four subjects, two graduate students and two seniors, were trained with each procedure. Interviewing skills were recorded in simulated assessment interviews conducted by each subject across baseline and treatment conditions. Each training procedure was evaluated in a multiple baseline across subjects design. The results showed that both procedures were equally effective for training behavioral interviewing skills, with all subjects reaching a level of 90-100% correct responding. Finally, a group of experts in behavior analysis rated …

The growing impact of computer based education has enhanced the possibility of providing learners greater autonomy in the learning process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of providing learner control options in a computer-assisted instruction (CAI) microcomputer program on patterns of learning strategies and content mastery.
The sample consisted of 98 adult learners involved in the fields of general or special education in the State …

All Graduate Projects
Shared Supervision, a model in which teachers could practice ITIP concepts, was developed by a group of middle school teachers. Fifteen teachers participated in the project. ITIP concepts were reviewed on a monthly basis by an ITIP trainer. The participating teachers observed one another using the reviewed concepts. The results showed support of a Shared Supervision Model for developing teaching skills. Conclusions and recommendations for Shared Supervision are discussed.

Effect Of Professional Training Of The Secondary Art Teacher On The Quality Of Learning Experiences Provided In The Art Program, Julie D. Mcaloon
UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations
An art teacher currently acquires professional training through one of two schools: the department of education or the department of fine arts. Do the differences in training of the art teacher affect the quality of learning experiences provided in the secondary art program? A questionnaire was designed to survey the type of professional preparation of the teacher, as well as specific aspects of his or her art program. The survey was mailed to 85 secondary art teachers in the surrounding area. Surveys returned were grouped according to background: teachers having a degree in education and teachers having a degree in …

Factors Indicating Voag/Ffa Program Quality As Perceived By Idaho Voag Instructors And Principals, Richard M. Foster, Louis E. Riensenberg
Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications
In public school education, as in private industry, a difference of opinion may exist between management and production about the quality of activities inherent in an occupation. The high school principals and vocational agriculture teachers in our public school systems are certainly no exception. Both have the common goal of making the vocational program within the school district the highest quality possible. In order to develop a high-quality vocational agriculture program, these two individuals must not only communicate with one another what they think are the most important and highest quality activities in which the vocational agriculture teacher should participate, …
