Omaha Housing Marketing: An Appraisal Of The Occupancy Potential For Subsidized Rental Units, 1971-1973, Ralph H. Todd, David W. Hinton Sep 1972

Omaha Housing Marketing: An Appraisal Of The Occupancy Potential For Subsidized Rental Units, 1971-1973, Ralph H. Todd, David W. Hinton

Publications

This study provides an analysis of market conditions for subsidized dwelling on its for a two year period from September 1971 to September 1973. It emerged because of the strong and prevailing belief that there exists today in the Omaha Housing Market Area (HMAl an urgent and unmet need for a large number of safe, decent dwelling units available at prices or rents that low and moderate income families can afford. The number of inadequate dwelling units (those lacking plumbing facilities or deteriorating or dilapidated), and the number of persons living below poverty level incomes are suggestive of the fact …

Black Studies As An Agent Of Social Change On The Structural Level At Selected Colleges And Universities, Vincent Van Davis

Dissertations and Theses

In a relatively short period of time American higher education has witnessed the development of numerous black studies programs and departments. These new academic endeavors have been instrumental in producing structural changes in the institutions of higher education. Recently higher education has attempted to assess the progress of black studies programs and departments within their structures. This has been done with some attempt to assess the past of black studies as well as project the future of black studies within higher education.

Due to the hurried developmental process of black studies programs, which led to the establishment of black studies …

An Assessment Of Yinger's Nondoctrinal Religion Using The Intrinsic-Extrinsic Concept, Warren Hamby Aug 1972

An Assessment Of Yinger's Nondoctrinal Religion Using The Intrinsic-Extrinsic Concept, Warren Hamby

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This thesis is an attempt to examine an operational definition (or measure) of nondoctrinal religion proposed by J. Milton linger in 1969. Yinger, in his 1969 publication, suggests that the majority of scientific studies of religion have been pursuing a less valuable course by assuming definitions of "religion" which restrict the concept to mere traditional forms of religion. Such definitions tend to prevent researchers from examining important and abundant structures which serve religious functions but dc not resemble traditional institutionalized religion in form. Such structures serve the function of dealing with chaos, the human situation, and ultimate concern. There is …

College Students & Religion: An Examination Of Yinger's Non-Doctrinal Religion Questions As "Residual Religion", Paul Mader

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The author hopes to emphasize, as Yinger did, the idea of how one is religious rather than simply asking if one is religious. The following research deals with college students and their orientation toward religion. The author will attempt both to define and to show the origin of college students' orientation toward religion.

Relationships Between Commitment, Dissatisfaction And Attrition Among Roman Catholic Priests In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Romeo Raymond Di Benedetto Jul 1972

Relationships Between Commitment, Dissatisfaction And Attrition Among Roman Catholic Priests In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Romeo Raymond Di Benedetto

Sociology ETDs

The motivation which led to the selection of the subject of commitment was both professional and personal. The author not only went through this process himself of commitment/decommitment to the official ministry but came to know many other such priests in his involvement with the Society of Priests For a Free Ministry. It is to the men and women of this renewal organization that this thesis is dedicated.

It is known to any "insider" of the Roman Catholic clergy that thousands of priests have long been experiencing intense and numerous frustrations. Some priests are able to satisfactorily resolve their frustrations …

Libertinism, Political Activism And Religious Conservatism: Some Correlates Of Anomie, George Wade Jul 1972

Libertinism, Political Activism And Religious Conservatism: Some Correlates Of Anomie, George Wade

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The present study concerns college students in particular, the attitudes they hold toward both their society and their own personal life within that society, and how these attitudes affect their behavior. The six specific variables being dealt with are libertinism, religious conservatism, political activism, personal anomie, systemic anomie, and probusiness. These are viewed from the perspective that the attitudes and opinions held by the students will influence their behavior. Specifically, this perspective views feelings of anomie or alienation (the two terms will be used interchangeably throughout) as affecting the religious, political, and libertine views and behavior of the students. This …

The Theatrical Innovations Of Charles Laughton, Gary Joseph Jones Jul 1972

The Theatrical Innovations Of Charles Laughton, Gary Joseph Jones

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In most journalistic studies the film career of Charles Laughton overshadows his theatrical activities to the extent that the reader is hardly aware of the importance of his theatrical innovations to the theater of our time. The more commercial side of Laughton’s career was publicized while his artistic efforts, as characterized by the innovations, were frequently forgotten. More people remember him as the man who played Captain Bligh in the movies than as the man who worked with Bertolt Brecht, created the First Drama Quartette and developed a new American art form, Readers’ Theatre.

The rationale of this study is …

Impact Of A Proposed Reservoir On Local Land Values, Philip Drucker, Charles R. Smith, Allen C. Turner Jul 1972

Impact Of A Proposed Reservoir On Local Land Values, Philip Drucker, Charles R. Smith, Allen C. Turner

KWRRI Research Reports

This project was designed to study the impact of private preconstruction land acquisition in a Central Kentucky area in which a flood-control dam and reservoir impoundment is planned. The research design was built around use of anthropological concepts and research techniques. By these means it was possible to analyze the perceived values of land to traditionalist residents, among which social and economic security concepts are paramount. Recent land purchases, locally believed to have been made chiefly by "outsiders," (urbanites from nearby Louisville), at prices out of line in terms of local agricultural worth, has been extremely unsettling contributing to the …

A Sociological Analysis Of The Cartage Truck Driver's Occupation, Robert Miller Jun 1972

A Sociological Analysis Of The Cartage Truck Driver's Occupation, Robert Miller

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This is an occupational study of the cartage truck driver in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Webster defines cartage as "the act of carrying by cart or truck, usually within a city." Bowling Green contains a flurry of diversified trucking activities. For this reason, the study has been narrowed to those drivers involved in the government-regulated transportation of mixed freight. It is believed that an occupational study of the cartage truck driver has never been attempted. Interest in the study of occupations, particularly that of the cartage truck driver, was developed through personal driving experience. This experience consisted of three and a …

Criminal Homicide In Warren County Kentucky: 1970-1971, Timothy Carter Jun 1972

Criminal Homicide In Warren County Kentucky: 1970-1971, Timothy Carter

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Individuals resorting to violent aggression in the form of criminal homicide have often been the object of great public concern. Of the many actions punishable by criminal law, the taking of a human life by another human being most often entails a severe sanction, especially when it has been done deliberately and with a degree of premeditation. Public fear and concern dictate forceful sanctioning toward the homicide offender or offenders; no other criminal offense is so likely to result in the death penalty or life imprisonment.
