Skeleton Weed : The 1974 Narembeen Campaign, C R. Chambers Jan 1974

Skeleton Weed : The 1974 Narembeen Campaign, C R. Chambers

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Skeleton weed took an alarming, historic turn in Western Australia at the 1974 New Year.

After a decade of an almost complacent pattern—control of one or two small outbreaks annually by the Agriculture Protection Board— general alarm erupted with the discovery of big areas at Pithara and mainly Narembeen.

What followed was a massive movement and engagement of not only Department staff but also the farming community in an attempt to beat this outbreak.

A Study Of Attitudes Of South Dakota Residents Toward Selected Aspects Of Hunting, Hunters, And Game Officials, Jerome R. Rosonke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study of the attitudes of South Dakota residents was made to determine: (1) the attitudes of selected South Dakota residents toward selected aspects of hunting, hunters, and game officials; (2) how these attitudes vary when controlled for selected socioeconomic factors; and (3) what socioeconomic factors help explain the observed variation in attitudes. The unit of analysis was the individual respondent, chosen from the state population. A total of 474 residents were interviewed in order to assess: (1) selected socioeconomic characteristics of the respondent; and (2) the respondent's attitude toward selected aspects of hunting, hunters, and game officials. A Study Of Disadvantagement And Migration For Counties In South Dakota: 1960-1970, Marco Montoya

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study of the 1970 South Dakota population was conducted to determine: (1) the extent of disadvantagement by magnitude and residence; (2) the association between the extent of disadvantagement and selected socio-economic factors; and (3) the extent to which factors explaining disadvantagement also served to predict migration based on the net migration experiences of South Dakota counties during 1960 to 1970. The county was selected as the unit of analysis. Selected data from the census were aggregated and tabulated. The magnitude of family and unrelated individual disadvantagement in South Dakota during 1970 was identified for rural farm, rural non-farm, and …

Predicting Delinquent Sub-Types With The Social History Questionnaire, Charles S. Sulcer Jan 1974

Predicting Delinquent Sub-Types With The Social History Questionnaire, Charles S. Sulcer

Masters Theses

A major problem encountered in the juvenile courts concerns the large number of young offenders placed on probation, as well as the seriousness of their violations. Representative studies by Jenkins and Glickman (1947), Hathaway and Monachesi (1953), and Shinohara and Jenkins (1967) have pointed out the complexities of delinquent behavior by indicating that most legal authorities are often unable to determine who will repeat illegal acts.

This problem necessitates some objective approach toward identifying potential repeaters and non-repeaters. Such a technique would be useful in studying the early stages of delinquent behavior and provide a means of studying the growing …

A Multi-Variate Analysis Of Selected Socio-Demographic Factors Associated With The Attitudes Of Big Stone Lake Area Residents Toward Community Services, Oscar J. Schinkel

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A research project was conducted in the Big Stone lake area. This area included Roberts and Grant Counties in South Dakota and the city of Ortonville in Minnesota. The completion date is projected for the summer of 1975. This planned industrial facility for a relatively rural area provided an opportunity to study the effects of rural industrialization. This phase of the total research project ascertained the …

Designing And Evaluating Workshop "Bridges": A Training Project To Upgrade Social Services In Long Term Care Facilities, Corrine C. Williams

Dissertations and Theses

Early in the fall of 1973, the Oregon Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) decided to sponsor a statewide training project in cooperation with seven chapters in other Department of Health, Education and Welfare (DHEW) regions across the United States. These workshops were to comprise Stage I of a two-stage plan; they were to serve as demonstration projects. Their planning, implementation and evaluation were to be seriously reviewed and studied afterword in an attempt to devise a model, or models, for Stage II, when a great number of such workshops would be held across the nation. The …

Social Science And Social Welfare: Toward A Society For The Solution Of Social Problems, Andrew Billingsley Jan 1974

Social Science And Social Welfare: Toward A Society For The Solution Of Social Problems, Andrew Billingsley

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Excerpt from the full-text article:

Do existing social work texts contribute to a student's recognition of professional values and issues and of the implicit ideological bases for these? The following study contends that they do not, and that their failures are quite similar to those found by Mills in his examination social pathology texts.

Our concern today with social science and social welfare policy is in keeping with the purposes and conceptions of the founders of the Society for the Study of Social Problems. In those early days these men and women were idealists- -they were reformists, but they also …

Swedish Child Welfare Worker: Estrangement And Alienation In An Ideal Situation, Implications For American Social Policy, The, Wayne Plasek

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Excerpt from the full-text article:

Our research was guided by an interest in the attitudes of social workers toward their personal work situation, their occupation, its place in the society, and other matters. It seemed likely that in a welfare state, the position of the profession and the attitudes of its practitioners would reflect its key position within the society. If such expectations were borne out, we might be able to make predictions concerning such attitudes among American social workers should the welfare program be greatly expanded.

Annotated Bibliography: The Concept Of Androgyny: A Working Bibliography, Nancy Topping Bazin Jan 1974

Annotated Bibliography: The Concept Of Androgyny: A Working Bibliography, Nancy Topping Bazin

Women's & Gender Studies Faculty Publications

Androgyny has been variously understood at different times in different cultures, but the idea has been ever present. Just as in each age myths are reinterpreted, so too the androgynous ideal must be redefined again and again by succeeding generations. Our androgynous vision can be informed by tradition and history, but it must be free of the misogyny and sexism which has pervaded much of what men have written about it heretofore. The continued use of the term androgyny is necessary if we are to transcend the dualistic culture and the sex roles we have inherited, but feminists must clarify …
