The plan for this study of the Amazonian family was conceived when the author was living in the Amazon valley. His life in Manaus and other towns in the Amazon valley continuously brought to his attention the problems of family organization. These problems were brought into focus by studies made be Gilberto Freyre, Brazilian sociologist, who had made, thirty years previously, a study of the northeastern family. Later, other studies of the Brazilian family were made. They suggested a similar study of the family in the Amazon valley.

A Comparative Study Of The Problem Of Abstraction Versus Experience Between East And West (As Exemplified In Selected Eastern And Western Sages), Leo Jacob Zeff

This thesis is a comparative study of the teachings of a number of Eastern sages and a representative of modern Western depth psychology in connection with the problem of abstraction versus experience (or, thinking about instead of experiencing}. This problem is considered by the writer as the central cause in the suffering of mankind everywhere.
The introductory chapter will present the problem being investigated, why and how it is considered significant, and how it will be dealt with in this study. The second chapter will contain a presentation of the various sages to be considered here, how and why they …

First half of World War II scrapbook compiled by Lucian Flora of Smiths Grove, Kentucky. He attended Bowling Green Business University from 1938 to 1940. This scrapbook contains materials regarding the campaigns through North Africa and Italy. Also included are items related to his life in Affinity, WV prior to the war. There are post cards and photographs of Columbus, Ohio; Washington, DC; Baltimore, Maryland; Alexandria, Virginia; and Ireland.
