In September of 1971 The Regents' Commission on the Urban University of the 70's Report recommended that:
"... the Commission recommends that UNO bring educational opportunities to the people by further expansion and development of instruction in Program Centers away from the main campus ......... "
Since the receipt of that recommendation the University has established permanent and ad hoc program centers remote from the main campus (i.e., Center for Urban Education, Allwine Farm, sculpture lab and continuing studies in the WOW Building, YWCA, New Federal Building) in addition to continuing a search for a major facility in the "Downtown …

Atlanta Service-Learning Conference Report, Southern Regional Education Board
Conference Proceedings
Persons concerned with both higher education and community service came together in mid-1969 to discuss the pros and cons of service-learning programs and to determine the need for such programs. The participants at the conference recommended: (1) that colleges and universities encourage student community service, assist in assuring disciplined learning as part of this service, and award academic recognition for the learning acquired by students in service projects; (2) that federal, regional, and state and local governments, colleges and universities, and private organizations provide opportunities and supply the funds required for as many students as are needed and are willing …

The Psychological Of The Draft On Male College Students, Charles A. Bonney '70
The Psychological Of The Draft On Male College Students, Charles A. Bonney '70
Honors Projects
The project was developed with the intent of determining the psychological effects of the draft upon male college students. With this purpose in mind , an instrument was designed to uncover as well as possible these effects upon a sampling of male undergraduates on selected campuses in the South and Midwest. Feelings toward the draft at this point in time were hypothesized to be almost inseparably intertwined with feelings toward the conflict in Vietnam , so this correlation was prominent in the wording of the instrument . Due to limitations in time and manpower , the instrument had to be …

The study's objectives were to (a) assess the impact of the Peace Corps interlude on subsequent formal education, (b) obtain respondent opinions on the educational value of the Peace Corps interlude itself, and (c) examine what steps, if any, the formal education system in the United States had taken toward :incorporating such an experience in formal academic programs.

Middle And Working-Class Fathers' Occupational Expectations And Aspirations For Their Daughters, William H. Bieck
Middle And Working-Class Fathers' Occupational Expectations And Aspirations For Their Daughters, William H. Bieck
Student Work
Sociological research in the areas of occupational preference and mobility, together with related work in the sociology of education has been concerned almost entirely with males. An all but exclusive preoccupation with the male worker is somewhat surprising considering the fact that census data reveal, an increasing proportion of women in paid employment during the last sixty years.1 An examination of labor statistics by Bossi,2 disclosed that between 1950 and I960, women accounted for 65 per cent of the increase in the labor force. By 1965, according to Davis3, approximately one paid worker in three was …

A Sociological Consideration Of Pretense, John F. Else
A Sociological Consideration Of Pretense, John F. Else
Student Work
Few, if any, persons pass through a day without observing and engaging in some form of pretense. Pretense is a basic aspect of interpersonal relations. In an office or factory the supervisor tells the worker to ’’look busy" even when he does not have work to do. The salesman tries to make the customer feel as if the item being presented is the best buy ever placed on the market. Two people meet and exchange “PIeased to meet you!" when neither actually cares at all about the presence of the other; in fact, each may have negative feelings about meeting …
