Survey Analysis Of The Council Bluffs Senior Citizens' Center Programs And Participants, David R. Dimartino, Jack Ruff

Publications

In the summer of 1984, representatives of the Council Bluffs Senior Citizens Center requested assistance from the Center for Applied Urban Research to analyze their program offerings and attendance. The request resulted in two types of assistance. First, working with volunteers and staff, two students from the University of Nebraska at Omaha compiled existing information on Senior Center usage. These efforts resulted in a computerized list of about 700 users by the types of activities in which they participated. This list is to be used when sending program information to participants. Automation allows sorting in order to select users according …

The Vanguard (Vol. 32, No. 7), Nov 1985, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

Several important actions by the Commission for a New Lutheran Church have helped keep justice central to the purpose of the new Lutheran church.

At its meeting Sept. 23-27 in Kansas City, the CNLC included commissions for women and for multicultural ministries in the design of the church, included a social responsibility clause in a resolution on pension fund investments, and set a goal of 10 percent minority membership in the new church within 10 years.

The Vanguard (Vol. 32, No. 2), Mar-Apr 1985, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

The Lutheran churches are in Indian country.

Hundreds of Lutheran congregations are within 10 miles of an Indian reservation. Hundreds more are in cities with large Indian populations, cities like Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Seattle, Phoenix, Milwaukee and San Francisco.

Most Indian people, either on reservations or in cities, live in poverty and suffer more unemployment, poorer education, higher rates of illness and less opportunity than any other segment of society.

An Analysis Of The Exchange Relationships In A Voluntary Organization Network Undergoing Structural Change, Gary A. Goreham

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Using Richard Emerson's exchange network analysis, exchange relations in the South Dakota 4-H program were examined. South Dakota 4-H is comprised of both paid staff and volunteer leaders. It is currently undergoing structural change through the implementation of the Key Leader System. The Key Leader System involves appointing county level Key Leaders and club level Project Leaders to disseminate information to 4-H members and to assist them with their projects. Survey data, interviews, and State Fair results were collected to test hypotheses generated by exchange network analysis. Both clubs and counties varied in the degree to which they had implemented …

Behavioral Social Work In Community And Organizational Settings, Jack Rothman, Bruce A. Thyer

The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare

Principles and methods of behavioral social work have found little application at the community and organizational levels of intervention. It is the contention of the authors that integration of such content would enhance practice at these levels. Components of behavioral community intervention are indicated and illustrated in micro/macro settings, with advantages to practice specified. Ethical Considerations in using this methodology are discussed.

Counseling The Batterer, Robert Oliver Brown May 1984

Counseling The Batterer, Robert Oliver Brown

Dissertations and Theses

Domestic violence has received increasing attention in recent years as an area of concern for the helping professional. Despite this interest, programs for counseling the batterer are relatively few and counseling interventions for use with this client population are in what could be termed an experimental phase. The purpose of Counseling the Batterer is to review the pertinent literature concerned with counseling the batterer, to explore several programs which have been involved in this effort, and also to design a model group counseling program for abusive males. The foundation for the model program is based on the pertinent literature and …

Group Comparability: A Multiattribute Utility Measurement Approach To The Use Of Random Assignment With Small Numbers Of Aggregated Units, C. Anderson Johnson, John W. Graham, Brian R. Flay, William B. Hansen, Linda M. Collins Apr 1984

Group Comparability: A Multiattribute Utility Measurement Approach To The Use Of Random Assignment With Small Numbers Of Aggregated Units, C. Anderson Johnson, John W. Graham, Brian R. Flay, William B. Hansen, Linda M. Collins

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

It is not always possible, especially in large-scale evaluation research, to ensure that random assignment will produce groups that are comparable on any number of potentially important factors. Typically, gaining comparability has been achieved only at the expense of random assignment. A method is presented that allows multivariate comparability while making only minimal restrictions on randomization. The procedure is demonstrated in the context of assigning 63 aggregated units (schools) to 28 experimental and control conditions. Good comparability of groups for all primary main effects and interactions was verified for 15 individual variables.
