Civilization Among The Sioux Indians, Herbert Welsh

Special Collections

Full title: Civilization Among the Sioux Indians. Report of a Visit to Some of the Sioux Reservations of South Dakota and Nebraska

Description by Herbert Welsh of his travels in South Dakota and Nebraska, focusing particularly on the conditions on reservations as well as interactions between various indigenous groups and the settler-colonial state. Welsh critiques the abuses of the Indian Administration, speculators, off-reservation boarding schools, and more. 61st Annual Report Of The Board Of World Missions, Reformed Church In America

Board of Foreign Missions Annual Reports

The Board of Foreign Missions (later, World Missions) was organized by the General Synod in 1832. The board was under the direction of the RCA but was also under the authority of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. David Abeel led the first mission of the RCA to the island of Borneo in the Dutch East Indies in 1836. Missions also sprouted in four primary target areas: Japan, India, China, and Arabia. In 1857, the board broke away from its ties with the American Board of Missions and established independent missions. Under its current name, the board is …

19th Annual Report Of The Woman's Board Of Foreign Missions, Reformed Church In America

Woman’s Board of Foreign Missions Annual Reports

The Woman’s Board of Foreign Missions (WBFM) of the RCA was organized in 1875 in Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan. Thirteen women, in response to a recommendation of the 1874 General Synod, met to commit themselves to the proposition that women in all parts of the world had a right to a Christian life. Through prayer and monetary gifts, the WBFM supported the schools established by the RCA for women and children at the various mission stations. The organization continued until 1946 when it was absorbed into the Board of Foreign Missions of the RCA. The collection includes annual reports.

For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Singular Fenomeno. El Nino Sin Craneo En La Villa De Guadalupe., Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, José Guadalupe Posada

Marian Broadsides from Mexico

An engraving on the top of the recto shows a small figure sleeping on his side. According to the description in the text below, the child is depicted with eyes on his forehead and the body of a monkey, including a tail.

The text describes a stillbirth to a woman named Agapita. According to the story, the child was born with fetal anomalies including eyes in his forehead and a vestigial tail, though the title of the broadside states that the child was born without a skull. Agapita and others believe the child looks like a monkey and locals believe …

Nebraska: Her Resources, Advantages, And Development, Joseph Garneau, Jr.

Nebraskiana Publications: Resources and Materials on the 37th State

Almost midway between the two greatest oceans of the world, its eastern boundary marked by the rapid flowing Missouri, the westernmost counties shadowed by the towering ranges of the Rockies, with the land of the Dakotas to the north and the great agricultural state of Kansas to the south, lies the garden spot of that vast and shadowy country (which but a few short years since was only known as The Great American Desert).

Today it is the State of Nebraska, the happy home of one million and a half of thrifty, industrious and prosperous people. In less than a …
