How Coaching Interactions Transform Leader Identity Of Young Professionals Over Time, Andy Hughes, Christian Vaccaro

Garthwait Leadership Center

This longitudinal qualitative study explores how social interactions between young professionals and their leadership coach develop leader identity. Examining eleven pairs of coaches and clients participating in a three-to-six-month leadership development programme, this exploratory research found five general interaction types that form the basis of leader identity development. We explain how coaching interaction types are combined to create a powerful adult learning process for navigating leadership transitions in an original leader identity transformation framework. The findings expand the understanding of coaching processes and leader identity transformation, providing insights for researchers and practitioners to help young professionals navigate leadership.

This short generic qualitative inquiry review will provide evidence that the six key charismatic leadership characteristics are currently systematically employed in multiple diverse occupational and research settings to improve followers' goals and responses. Aligning existing leadership strategies to complement the six main charismatic leadership characteristics over recommended occupational competencies finds that charismatic leadership is a parallel process of leadership and management for social workers and other occupational domains, particularly within …

Promoting Continuous Learning And Organizational Improvement Through Role Based Evaluation Capacity Building, Haley Elizabeth Umans

CGU Theses & Dissertations

Nonprofit organizations, like expanded learning programs, are hungry to engage in evaluation to improve their services to make the greatest impact. To bring this dream to life, individuals in the organization must develop the skills necessary to engage in evaluation and use findings as part of evaluation capacity building (ECB) efforts. Ambivalence is the experience of both positive and negative evaluations regarding an object such as a person or an event. Although interest in leadership ambivalence has been growing among researchers, there is still little understanding of what distinguishes it from poor leadership. The goal of this dissertation was to contribute to the leadership ambivalence literature by examining ambivalence in the leader-member exchange (LMX) relationship through the lens of occupational stress. Specifically, I used the job demands-resources model as a theoretical foundation and presented leadership ambivalence as a unique job demand that is associated with emotional exhaustion as a symptom of …
