A Measure Of The Library Skills Of High School Graduates Of Washington State As Demonstrated By Freshman Of Central Washington State College, Malcolm Douglas Alexander

All Master's Theses

This paper presents the study of library skills possessed by the 1971 entering freshman class at Central Washington State College. The study was designed to provide data to library faculty about the skills in which the students required instruction. The students tested possessed a selected list of library skills at the 47th percentile as measured by Ethel M. Feagley' s test A Library Orientation Test For College Freshmen. The hypothesis that they would not possess the skills at the 50th percentile was upheld.

The Video Tape Recorder, Television And The High School Media Specialist, Margaret Kay White Jan 1972

The Video Tape Recorder, Television And The High School Media Specialist, Margaret Kay White

Graduate Research Papers

An important part of using TV to teach centers around the use of the video tape recorder. A basic videotape recording unit consists of a videotape recorder, a playback monitor, a television camera and a microphone.

Integral to any discussion of the VTR is an investigation of the different aspects of using television for educational purposes. The first step in this paper, therefore, will be a careful exploration of the advantages and disadvantages of television and, indirectly, videotaping, in secondary education.

Without careful planning the VTR can become just another piece of mechanical equipment lost in the closet of a …

An Alienation Measurement And Observed Behavior: A Study Of Forty-Two Male Seniors In A Technical High School, Jack Leo Terzenbach

Dissertations and Theses

The study examined the relationships between subjects' degree of alienation and descriptions of their behaviors. The subjects were 42 male, senior students at Benson Polytechnic High School who attended one of two required social science classes. Maintaining Culturally Disadvantaged Fourth-Graders' Attention To Oral Verbal Teaching Through Intermittent Auditory Stimulation, Evelyn M. Noren

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The present research was undertaken to determine whether a utilitarian method could be devised for directing and maintaining culturally disadvantaged students' attention to taped verbal lessons. Extraneous novel tone bell stimuli were inserted prior to the presentation of material about which the children were questioned. The purpose of the study was to learn whether the nature of the tone bell stimulus reflects the accuracy of responses due to attention having been directed to the lesson content. The author hypothesized that a combination of melody and rhythm would be most effective in attracting attention and, thus, in eliciting a greater number …

A Regional Approach: City-County Consolidation As A Method Of Local Governmental Reorganization, Anthony Gene White Dec 1971

A Regional Approach: City-County Consolidation As A Method Of Local Governmental Reorganization, Anthony Gene White

Dissertations and Theses

City-county consolidated governments are examined to isolate factors important to the success of the consolidation process, and are measured against objective and subjective criteria for the operation of such governments. Data are obtained through survey techniques and statistical analysis of demographic information. Results indicate that such success-oriented consolidation factors inherent in city-county governments do exist and can be interrelated in a mathematical model. Consolidated governments appear to improve their ability to handle urban problems, and officials of consolidated governments are more confident of their ability to handle these problems than are officials of other metropolitan governments reorganized in different manners.
