Changes In Scholastic Achievement And Intelligence Of Indian Children Enrolled In A Foster Placement Program, Linda Ouida Willson
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the long-term effects of the Indian Placement Program on the enrolled students' scholastic achievement as measured by standardized tests given in the schools. It also examines intelligence test scores and changes in them during years in the Program. The following effects on achievement were also examined: sex, age and grade at initial placement, and the child's adjustment as measured by number of foster homes in which he had been placed.
A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman
A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Given this large involvement that children have with motion pictures, an educator is moved to inquire into the possible effects that movies might have upon them. It, therefore, seems appropriate that an educational dissertation be undertaken concentrating on Disney Production films, since as indicated by the foregoing, they are so universally viewed by American children.
Statement of the problem:
This study attempted to (1) analyze the five screenplays listed on page 6, (2) show two Disney films based on the screenplays analyzed to groups of children and administer a questionnaire to them. The investigator used the obtained data to determine …
Implied Social Mobility And Its Effect Upon Late Adolescent Perception Of Parent-Child Personality Evaluation, Jeanne A. James
Implied Social Mobility And Its Effect Upon Late Adolescent Perception Of Parent-Child Personality Evaluation, Jeanne A. James
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The general purpose of this study will be an exploration of the relationships between the self-descriptions of late adolescents, their perceptions of how they think their like-sexed parents would describe them, their social class of origin, and the degree of their implied social mobility. The present study specifically investigates the proposition that as the late adolescent implies an attempt to change his social lass of origin (as measured by Hollingshead’s Two Factor Index of Social Position by obtaining more education and aspiring to a different occupation than his parents) the tested implication is that he feels his parents’ perceptions of …
Political Prospects For An Ocean Regime, Laurence Arden Hill
Political Prospects For An Ocean Regime, Laurence Arden Hill
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The subject area of this thesis is the proposed international sea regime. The regime in this context refers to the proposed international organization to control the resources of the sea-bed beyond the limits of national jurisdiction. Regime in the above context has a specific meaning and should not be confused with the more general meaning of a regime of the sea. In the more general sense a regime of the sea would encompass the entire law of the sea. Such a broad scope is not intended, therefore no treatment of fishing rights, limitation of nuclear arms, extensive oil deposits at …

In the spring of 1968, shortly after the Los Angeles Chapter of LHRAA was organized, plans for implementing a summer recreation project were made. Target for the first year was to present sewing classes for teenage girls caught in innercity communities where recreational resources were in short supply. A newsletter to some 350 Lutheran churches in Los Angeles and Orange Counties elicited used sewing machines, money and yardage with which to supply the classes, and women volunteers to teach. That first summer, six sites were staffed with a total enrollment of 150 girls.
Planning College Geography Facilities: Guidelines For Space And Equipment, Robert Stoddard
Planning College Geography Facilities: Guidelines For Space And Equipment, Robert Stoddard
Geography Program: Faculty Publications
This publication is written as a guide for evaluating and planning the space and equipment available for geographic education in an undergraduate college. The objectives are:
(1) to present ideas about potential facilities for various kinds of geographic programs;
(2) to provide information to administrators and architects about special space and equipment needs of geography; and
(3) to serve as a guide for geographers planning new (and remodeled) facilities.
vIt is hoped that readers may gain ideas about potential facilities for geography. No "ideal" departmental plan is presented because there is no one such plan for all departments. The use …

The gathering of armed government personnel, the sound of fired weapons, and the entrenched commitment of Indian people at Wounded Knee, South Dakota, constitute a chilling and grim reminder of a senseless slaughter of innocents less than 85 years ago at the very same site. That occasion saw U.S. troops bearing down on defenseless men, women, and children in the little village.

Sickle Cell Anemia : A Psychosocial Study Of Attitudes And Effect, Sharon Ann Goddard, Marian Genita Gilmore
Dissertations and Theses
This research study was focused on two broad areas of exploration. The first area deals with the identification of various factors affecting a family when a family member has the anemia or symptomatic form of sickle cell disease. Data obtained from a personally administered questionnaire (Form A), enabled the researchers to determine if genetic counseling had been offered and received, and if this counseling was considered helpful by the respondents. In addition to this, data was collected on several demographic variables, including sex and age of patient, family income, religion, education, ethnic group, living arrangements and occupation, and response to …
Regionalization Of Southwestern Ontario, Allan James O’Neill
Regionalization Of Southwestern Ontario, Allan James O’Neill
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
Within Ontario, regional governments are being established. This paper regionalizes south-western Ontario by synthesizing the characteristics of homogeneous and nodal regions. The regions so established are considered in light of their possible application to regional government.
The techniques used in the paper recognize regionalization in terms of systems analysis, such that there are places, attributes of these places and interactions between the places. Data are collected on separate matrices for the attributes of the places and for the interactions, and are referred to as structural data and behavioral data respectively. Through manipulation of the data matrices, separate measures of similarity …

A Follow-Up Attitudinal Study Of Selected Groups In The City Of The Dalles Toward The Community Attention Home, Landon Gilstrap, Joyce Larson, Janice Page
Dissertations and Theses
Prior to the opening of the Attention Home in August of 1971, a survey was conducted by David Clitheroe and Garrett Long to determine what specific attitudes local groups in the community had about the Attention Home. Their study represented the first part of a two part study. It established the baseline data on the community attitudes toward the Attention Home prior to the opening of the home. These attitudes will be compared with the attitudes after one year's operation of the home in order to assess what attitudinal changes, if any, have taken place between the first and second …

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
