The Impact Of Corporate Profits On Gdi Estimates: Forecasting And Data Revisions, Peterson Haas May 2025

The Impact Of Corporate Profits On Gdi Estimates: Forecasting And Data Revisions, Peterson Haas

Honors Theses

The National Income and Product Accounts (NIPAs) produced by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) provide key measures of U.S. economic activity, including gross domestic product (GDP) and gross domestic income (GDI). Although conceptually equivalent, GDP and GDI often diverge due to differences in source data and revision timing. This study focuses on corporate profits—a small but volatile component of GDI that is frequently revised, especially during the BEA’s annual (A1) and benchmark (C1) revisions. I examine how revisions to corporate profits influence GDI revisions and whether they can improve real-time estimates of GDI. First, I document the size …

Numerous studies have demonstrated that positive psychology interventions, including brief interventions, can significantly improve well-being outcomes. These findings are particularly important given that many of these interventions are brief and self-administered, making them both accessible and scalable for large populations. However, the efficacy of positive psychology interventions is often constrained by small effect sizes. In light of advancements in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), this study explored whether integrating AI chatbots into positive psychology interventions could enhance their efficacy compared to traditional self-administered approaches. Study 1 examined the efficacy of a gratitude intervention delivered through Snapchat's My AI, while Study 2 …

Developing Self-Regulation Skills In Early Childhood, Elizabeth Alvarez May 2025

Developing Self-Regulation Skills In Early Childhood, Elizabeth Alvarez

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Some elementary-school-age children have not yet developed emotional self-regulation skills. When children have trouble with self-regulation, they have challenges focusing, retaining information, and socializing, which can result in poor academic performance and poor social skills. When children learn emotional self-regulation skills, children can gain emotional intelligence which helps them to recognize, understand, and manage their own emotions. To address this issue, I created a three-day lesson for students in a kindergarten classroom at Sherwood Elementary in Salinas, California.

Relationship Between Local Fiscal Effort And High School Graduation Rate, Zachary Michael Haney May 2025

Relationship Between Local Fiscal Effort And High School Graduation Rate, Zachary Michael Haney

Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations

Education is an investment in human capital, but the cost to provide this public service is significant. Understanding the return on this investment is essential for informed and effective financial decision-making. While previous school finance studies have examined the relationship between funding and various indicators of student achievement and student attainment, most have focused on spending practices rather than the level of investment itself. Although the literature affirms the need for educational resources, further research is required to determine which types of investment most positively affect student outcomes. Therefore, funding must be analyzed prior to budgetary allocation to evaluate its …

A Model Of Changeover Behavior In Concurrent Schedules Of Reinforcement, Matias A. Avellaneda May 2025

A Model Of Changeover Behavior In Concurrent Schedules Of Reinforcement, Matias A. Avellaneda

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

Animals in the wild have access to a variety of food sources, and they must allocate their time between them in an efficient manner. This requires deciding when to depart from the source currently being exploited to travel to a different one. A general model of this decision process can be derived from three assumptions well supported by the learning literature. The first one is the so-called matching law, which says that the proportion of time allocated to any one behavior equals the proportion of total value obtained from that option. The second one is that the dwell times (i.e., …

Ex-Gaussian Analysis Of Inhibition In Chronic Moderate-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, Michelle Mui May 2025

Ex-Gaussian Analysis Of Inhibition In Chronic Moderate-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, Michelle Mui

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs following injury to head, resulting in disruption of normal brain functioning. During the chronic stages (greater than one year postinjury), those with TBI may experience ongoing symptoms. Executive dysfunction, including inhibition, is often seen. Neuropsychological measures of inhibition applied in basic research utilize response time across several trials, where participants complete trials with and without inhibitory control. Refined measurement approaches include trial-by-trial performance to capture response time inconsistencies or variability within the subject, known as intraindividual variability. Typical methods of measuring intraindividual variability violate statistical assumptions given that response time distributions are positively skewed. One …
