Grammatical Notes On Some Agarabi Texts, Jean Goddard
Grammatical Notes On Some Agarabi Texts, Jean Goddard
Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session
The seven texts [...] include two describing some of the changes in tribal life due to the coming and influence of Europeans (any white men), three describing the trip made by the younger man when he left the tribal area to work for two years on a plantation and two of 'village gossip.'
Text materials are interesting not only for their content, but for what can be learned about the language by studying them. There are two general areas of interest exhibited in these texts, Morphology - here, primarily the composition of verbs and nouns, and Syntax, the larger area …
Quantification And The English Comparative, Austin Hale
Quantification And The English Comparative, Austin Hale
Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session
From the introduction: "The work which led to this paper was provoked by the publication of two sharply divergent approaches to the English comparative construction, one by Robert B. Lees, the other by Carlota S. Smith. Since each of these approaches represents the work of a competent linguist who heartily rejects the possibility that there might ultimately be more than one correct analysis of the English comparative, it appeared to be of some interest to review and evaluate these two rival views. It soon became apparent, however, that neither of these views was entirely adequate. This paper accordingly represents an …

Integration And Consensus: A Tentative Exploration, Kent Warren Smith
Integration And Consensus: A Tentative Exploration, Kent Warren Smith
Honors Papers
The dimensions of the topic at hand are of a scope known on occasion to induce giddiness of mind and delusions of omniscience among those who treat with such words as consensus and "integration." Let us be warned; recognition of danger is the first stage of wisdom. It is necessary to severely limit our purview and to temper our aspirations. Established knowledge in this complex and elusive area of concern is scanty. Firm data are perhaps lass conspicuous than firm opinions. Ideological convictions often are easier to come by than precise and valid evidence. The immediate moral is to expect …

Statement of the problem. It was the purpose of this study (1) to determine the desires of the elementary school teachers employed ln the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, Marion County, Indiana, as to the sources of words for each of the grade levels one through six; (2) to use the majority opinion in the foregoing survey to establish word lists for each grade level; (3) to sample creative writing at given grade levels to detect number and kind of spelling errors made; (4) to compare these writings with others or a later date when emphasis in teaching spelling …

The Anchor: 1963
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
