Challenge Of Poverty To The Reformed Community, Fred J. De Jong
Challenge Of Poverty To The Reformed Community, Fred J. De Jong
Pro Rege
This article is the third in a series of three on the concept of poverty. The product of a series of seminars sponsored by the Social Sciences Division at Dordt College, the earlier articles defined poverty, introduced related Biblical concepts, and discussed the role of the state. For reference, see: Jasper Lesage, "Justice for the Poor: The Political Problem of Poverties," Pro Rege (14,2: December, 1985), p. 2-15; and Maarten Vrieze, "The Reformed College Confronts Poverty," Pro Rege (13,4: June, 1985), pp. 11-20.

When Rev. Brian (Red) Burchfield went to South Africa, he believed he and his co-pastor/wife Susan were missionaries to that racially-divided nation. Now, however, he understands that he was meant all along to be a missionary to the U.S.
Arriving in Cape Town last January to serve several, small congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa (ELCSA), Burchfield said they were met with two responses: "a warm and gracious reception and ... an attitude that took for granted that we would be going back to the United States and beginning our real work."

Lutherans Concerned/North America has recently distributed '' A Call for Dialog,'' a theological document offered as a resource for gay and lesbian Christians and for the churches.
Approved by the LC/NA board last fall, the Call for Dialog is the result of more than two years of study, writing and redrafting by a Task Force on 1beology. The task force included several ordained people, and the redrafting was based on comments by LC/NA members, theologians and church leaders.

The Girl Scouts In Utah: An Administrative History, 1921-1985, Jennifer L. Lund
Theses and Dissertations
Girl Scouting began in Utah in 1921 out of a desire of several wealthy women to help build the character of young girls in Ogden. Exhibiting many elements of the "social gospel" aspect of progressivism, they adopted the Girl Scout program which emphasized preparation for practical living, appreciation of nature, and development of character.
Since the first troops were organized in Ogden, Girl Scouting slowly spread throughout the rest of the state, resulting in several Councils and Lone Troops. After responding to a call for consolidation from the National Girl Scout Council the Utah Scouts made a dramatic change in …
