Language, The Other And God: On Italo Calvino's Last Novels, Richard Grigg
Language, The Other And God: On Italo Calvino's Last Novels, Richard Grigg
Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications
To the extent that Italo Calvino's novels point us toward a God beyond the God who died with the advent of modern nihilism, they are an important resource for constructing just that kind of notion of the divine that is required by the contemporary cultural situation: a notion that is an alternative to both theism and atheism. While theism cannot withstand the corrosive forces integral to the modern world view, atheism makes the fatal mistake of supposing that there is no longer any dimension of ultimacy available to contemporary persons. The God we have been led to by Calvino's last …

The Delay Of The Parousia As Reflected In 2 Thessalonians 2 With A Focus On Reexamining The Referential Meaning Of The Two Greek Participles, Τό Kαtεxov & Ό Kαtεxwv, Lonnie Darnell Ii
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This thesis examines the composition of 2 Thessalonians 2 and focuses specifically on the relationship of the participles Τό Kαtεxov and Ό Kαtεxwv to the chapter's main theme, the Parousia of Jesus Christ. The study begins with a discussion of the various interpretations given to solve the referential meanings of the participles (chapter one). This exploration of the various attempts of scholars to account for the participles concludes with the challenge to seek answers elsewhere.
To help situate and evaluate what the writer says in regard to the participles, it was necessary to reassess the role of 2 Thessalonians 2 …

A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of Kabod, David Worcester
A Study Of Isaiah's Use Of Kabod, David Worcester
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The purpose of this study is to discover the theological significance of the word פָבוֹ ד as used in the Book of Isaiah. פָבוֹ ד , most often translated into English as "glory," is a term which encompasses such meanings as honor, fame, wealth, reputation, brightness, brilliance or splendor, and, when used in reference to God, heavenly brilliance, sublimity or magnificence.) Throughout Isaiah, the term פָבוֹ ד is utilized frequently, with reference to God, as well as to men and nations. It is the thesis of this study that, as the term is used throughout Isaiah, the term- פָבוֹ דbecomes …
The Work Of The Holy Spirit In Light Of John 14-16, Glenn Nielsen
The Work Of The Holy Spirit In Light Of John 14-16, Glenn Nielsen
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The paper is thus quite helpful, for now my personal question is answered. No, I am not missing out on anything of the Spirit. My relationship with Christ assures me of that. It also answers the more academic inquiry, which produces the thesis of this study: the work of the Holy Spirit is exclusively and continually Christological. Or, as Frederick Bruner says, commenting on the title of his book, The Holy Spirit: Shy Member of the Trinity,
What I mean here by shyness is not the shyness of timidity(cf. 2 Tim. 1:7), but the shyness of deference, the shyness of …

A damnatio memoriae followed the death of Akhenaten. His son-in-law reverted to the religious beliefs that had lain under ban and persecution. The Egyptian monarch's massive granite sarcophagi and ala-baster Canopic chest stood unused. His body was either interred in a secondhand coffin or torn to pieces and thrown to the dogs. His capital stood abandoned to the desert, never again to serve as a royal residence and only to be recovered from the sands thousands of years later by German and English archaeologists in the decades surrounding the World Wars. The Ramessides of the succeeding dynasty worked out this …

Towards A Model Of Congregational Evangelistic Campaigns In The Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In West Germany, Ekkehardt Muller
Towards A Model Of Congregational Evangelistic Campaigns In The Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In West Germany, Ekkehardt Muller
Doctor of Ministry Projects
In the Western world it is a great challenge for churches to reach secular persons. This is true especially for West Germany where only an almost insignificant percentage of the population attends church regularly. Traditional methods to win people for Christ usually focus on this small percentage of people instead of on the vast majority of the unchurched people. Reaching the unchurched is a situation in which the laymen of the church are of special importance, for they are able to be in touch with persons clergymen will almost never reach. Thus laymen need to have a larger sphere of …

Dissertations
Problem. In scholarly debates on the origin of DA, the corpus of OA texts has not received full attention. Thus, there is a lack of comparative studies between DA and OA. This type of study serves a twofold purpose: It contributes to providing an answer to the questions of origin of DA, and it provides fresh insights into both OA and DA.
Method. This study of OA texts has been organized into seven sections which pertain to the literary and linguistic character of every one of the inscriptions: Description, Nature, Structure, Vocabulary, Orthography and Phonology, Morphology, and Syntax. The discussion …

The Biblical Witness Regarding The Person And Work Of The Holy Spirit, Craig Molitoris
The Biblical Witness Regarding The Person And Work Of The Holy Spirit, Craig Molitoris
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The goal of this study is to better understand the Biblical witness regarding the person and work of the Holy Spirit. There is an urgent need for such a study. Almost twenty-five years ago, Dr. Lorenz Wunderlich wrote a book about the Holy Spirit entitled, The Half-Known God. The title is, unfortunately, still appropriate today. It is the intention of this study to enable the researcher to better know this "Half-Known" God and to better make Him known tithe Church.
