Basketball Basics, Don J. Odle Jan 1976

Basketball Basics, Don J. Odle

Ayres Special Collection

It has been an interesting experience to me to observe how people learn. Many times we have seen high school and college athletes who play just like their older brothers...they have learned through imitation. Some of our college ball players have certain habits in footwork and as we question them further they respond that their high school coach taught it that way. We have tried to record in this book many experiences with basketball players hoping that the readers of this book might learn something to help them improve some technique of the game or some technique of life.

Letters to President Gerald Ford from Lutheran leaders - along with those from other church officials - are credited with encouraging the signing into law the Indian Health Improvement Act. The new law will provide $480 million over the next three years.

The House of Representatives had passed the bill 310 to 9 in mid-summer. The Senate later approved the House version of the bill. But the Ford Administration had opposed the legislation from the beginning, primarily because it exceeded proposed budget limitations.

The Southern States Mission And The Administration Of Ben E. Rich, 1898-1908: Including A Statistical Study Of Church Growth In The Southeastern United States During The Twentieth Century, Ted S. Anderson Jan 1976

The Southern States Mission And The Administration Of Ben E. Rich, 1898-1908: Including A Statistical Study Of Church Growth In The Southeastern United States During The Twentieth Century, Ted S. Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

Although The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent numerous missionaries to labor in the South prior to the Civil War, a formal mission organization did not exist until the etsablishment of the Southern States Mission of the Church in 1875 at Shady Grove, Tennessee. This thesis details the significant events in the mission during the eventful years of the Ben E. Rich administration, 1898 to 1908. Following his courageous example, hundreds of missionaries taught the message of the Restored Gospel to the people of the South during a renewed period of persecution and hatred as the acceptance of …

A History Of Female Missionary Activity In The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 1830-1898, Calvin S. Kunz Jan 1976

A History Of Female Missionary Activity In The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 1830-1898, Calvin S. Kunz

Theses and Dissertations

Latter-day Saint female missionary activities informally began in the early 1830's, remaining numerically unconstant until 1879, when a significant increase began. Between 1830 and 1898 over two hundred women had been involved in missionary work, laboring mostly in California, New York, Hawaii and England.

Before 1865, Latter-day Saint women did not have any official missionary status. After 1865, Church officials began the practice of setting them apart. Finally, in 1898 women were "certified" as missionaries which placed them on an equal status with their male counterparts.

Some lady missionaries performed household chores, taught school, preached sermons and presided over female …

The Euro-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church: Its Foundation And Future, With Special Focus On Six Such Congregations In New York City, Ned P. Maletin Jan 1976

The Euro-American Seventh-Day Adventist Church: Its Foundation And Future, With Special Focus On Six Such Congregations In New York City, Ned P. Maletin

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Task of the Project

The task of this project was to prepare a report on the present condition of the Euro-American Seventh-day Adventist church focusing on six such congregations in the Greater New York Conference. By studying their historical, cultural, and environmental background, the writer sought to determine whether the existence of such congregations, as separate units within the Seventh-day Adventist organization, was justified. And, on the basis of that investigation, to submit his recommendation in favor of their separate ethnic outreach among the groups they represent, or to recommend that they be incorporated with the English-speaking congregations of the …

The Development And Formative Evaluation Of Instructional Materials And Procedures Designed To Teach The Concept Of Christian Witness, Gordon Gale Bietz Jan 1976

The Development And Formative Evaluation Of Instructional Materials And Procedures Designed To Teach The Concept Of Christian Witness, Gordon Gale Bietz

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church must witness if they are to fulfill the Gospel commission and spread the three angels' messages. Two factors which may be hindering the development of an active lay witness are: (1) a lack of understanding about what witness really is and, (2) an inadequate understanding of how to witness.

Methods

The methods used were divided into three activities. The first was the review of theological and instructional literature toward the end of the development of instructional materials. The second activity was the use of these materials during which formative evaluation took place. …

New Hope: A Mormon Colony In Central California, Clint Mccready Jan 1976

New Hope: A Mormon Colony In Central California, Clint Mccready

Theses and Dissertations

New Hope was a small Mormon agricultural community in Central California. It was founded in 1846, by Samuel Brannan, on the hope that Brigham Young would make it the center stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The approximately twenty farmers at New Hope labored diligently under the illusion that thousands of their brethren would shortly join them. When President Young decided to settle in the Great Basin, the New Hope settlement was terminated that same year: 1847.

Functional Problems And Informational Needs Of Latter-Day Saint Chaplains Serving In The United States Armed Forces, N. Vernon Griffeth Jan 1976

Functional Problems And Informational Needs Of Latter-Day Saint Chaplains Serving In The United States Armed Forces, N. Vernon Griffeth

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to identify the functional problems and informational needs of LDS chaplains and bring together official Church statements in relation to them. A list of these needs was obtained by use of interviews and questionnaires from chaplains who have served since the Korean War. Information was also gathered from Military Relations Department files of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Research revealed that many Church statements, pertaining to functional problems and informational needs, were in existence but were not always easily accessible or did not adequately answer specific questions. It was also found …
