The Theology And Psychology Of The Negroes' Religion Prior To 1860 As Shown Particularly In The Spirituals: A Thesis, Norman Gregg Long
Honors Papers
In this thesis the writer has endeavored to treat the distinctive religion of the American Negroes so as to make evident, as far as he is able, the circumstances of its origin, its early development, the changes which have conditioned it, the theology in which it has been formulated, and the psychological motives which have been expressed in it. This study is made with the following specific objectives in view:
1. To study the Negro Spirituals as a body of musical literature in which the Negroes' religion prior to 1861 is embodied.
2. To point out the most outstanding features …

Medieval Religious Pageantry And Its Modern Revival, P. E. Kretzmann

As every student of the modern drama has learned from the careful research work of Chambers, Creizenach, and particularly of Prof. Karl Young, this form of art had its origin in the liturgy of the medieval Church. During the period from the tenth to the fourteenth century, when many of the gorgeous cathedrals of France, Germany, and England-Notre Dame, and Amiens, and Reims, and Strassburg, and Cologne, and Lincoln, and York, and Westminster were erected, the minds of the people of these and other countries were intensely religious.

Sermon Study On 1 Pet. 2, 1-10, T. Laetsch
Sermon Study On 1 Pet. 2, 1-10, T. Laetsch
Concordia Theological Monthly
In the first chapter of his epistle Peter had reminded his readers of their regeneration unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This hope had been engendered in them by the Word of God, the Gospel, which had been preached to them. Since they were regenerated by this living Word, Peter pleads with them to remain faithful in their love and desire for this Word, to grow into, and become more like unto, the Word and its perfection, to grow into ever keener understanding and fuller appreciation of the marvelous privileges offered in this Word, into an …

The Enhypostasia Of Christ's Human Nature, Walter Albrecht
The Enhypostasia Of Christ's Human Nature, Walter Albrecht
Concordia Theological Monthly
Accordingly we teach the enhypostasia of the human nature of Christ, i. e., the taking part of the human nature in the personality of the divine nature. This we find to be the teaching of Scripture. It teaches: "The Word was made flesh," John 1, 14. God become man not by the conversion of God into a man, but by the Second Person of the Trinity adding a human nature to His divine person.

Why Atheism?, Lawrence Michael Wittig
Why Atheism?, Lawrence Michael Wittig
Bachelors’ Theses
Of what importance is this question of atheism? Always of vital consequence to man and mankind, it presents today the paramount problem confronting humanity. In every nation, in every class of society we see godlessness daily making further encroachments upon the domains wherein formerly man was safely protected by faith in God. In Russia and Mexico atheism bas become a part of political domination; the German government seems constantly more eager to foist paganism upon its people; in America only fifty percent of the people are enrolled in any church.

King Henry Viii Attacks Luther, Wm. Dallmann
King Henry Viii Attacks Luther, Wm. Dallmann
Concordia Theological Monthly
Long before Luther the Piers Plowman of Langland and Chaucer in the Canterbury Tales had protested against these indulgences.
When crowned in 1509, young Henry VIII said: ''It has been, and is, my earnest wish to restore Christ’s religion to its pristine purity.”
Notes On Chiliasm, Th. Engelder
Notes On Chiliasm, Th. Engelder
Concordia Theological Monthly
Chiliasm is a vicious delusion, in its demands and a strong deluion in that it can enforce it demands; it must therefore be banned from Christian theology. The first count of this grave indictment specified the chiliastic treatment of Holy Scripture, as developed in the two preceding articles of this series.

Sermon Study On 1 Tim. 2, 1-6, Theo. Laetsch

Timothy, to whom this letter is addressed, had been left by Paul in charge of the large and influential congregation at Ephesus. Though still a young man, 1 Tim. 4, 12, Timothy was by no means a novice. Ho had been n "work-fellow'' of the apostle, Rom. 16, 21, for a number of years, had been entrusted with a number of important missions, and was one of the most trustworthy associates of Paul, Phil. 51, 20.

The Resurrection Of The Body In The Old Testament - An Exegetical Study, Allen Schuldheisz

Justification In The Old Testament, Fred R. Lammert
Justification In The Old Testament, Fred R. Lammert
Bachelor of Divinity
This topic needs discussion not only because of the value of such study, but also because of the large amount of opposition to the Old Testament at the present time and the immense forces that are directing their efforts to overthrow the Old Testament. On the one hand we have those opponents who because of anti-Semitic fanaticism want to reject the Old Testament from the outset, while on the other hand we meet those who wish to oppose the Old Testament by their own conjectures and thus overthrow it. The latter, negative Bible critics, try to find in the books …

Is Man's Natural Desire For Perfect Happiness A Convincing Argument For Immortality, Felix Frank Taterczynski
Bachelors’ Theses
The argument with which I shall concern myself in this treatise is not of isolated interest, but one which at one time or another is bound to occupy the thought of every thinking person. My aim here is not to construct a new original philosophical doctrine of my own, but to construct or offer an interpretation, on well-founded and established principles, of a doctrine which is hidden in the minds of every rational being. As a passing remark I say that I am not writing this thesis as a philosophic expert, because I am well aware of the fact that …
