Quality Of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Performed Over Hockey Shoulder Pads: A Simulation Study, Jennifer Longo, Katie J. Lyman, Thomas A. Hanson, Adam G. Estabrooks
Journal of Sports Medicine and Allied Health Sciences: Official Journal of the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association
Purpose: Athletic trainers (ATs) must be prepared to manage cardiac arrest events in all athletes, including those participating in equipment-intensive sports. The goal of this study was to determine if first responders, specifically ATs, were able to perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) over hockey shoulder pads. Methods: A sample of 50 ATs completed a one-minute, compression-only CPR proficiency test on a medium-fidelity manikin (Resusci Anne QCPR). Once deemed proficient, each participant completed CPR according to 2020 AHA guidelines on the manikin fitted with hockey shoulder pads for 8 minutes and 59 seconds. The primary measures of interest were the percentage …

Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Publications
BACKGROUND: The International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC) is the most highly recommended patient reported outcome measure for assessing patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and those undergoing ACL reconstruction (ACLR) surgery. The IKDC was developed as a unidimensional instrument for a variety of knee conditions. Structural validity, which determines how an instrument is scored, has not been definitively confirmed for the IKDC in respondents with ACL injuries, and in fact an alternative two-factor/subscale structure has been proposed in this population. The purpose of this study was to determine the most appropriate structure and scoring system for …

Cracking The Code: The Systematic Development Of A Matrix To Increase Credible And Dependable Coding Of Qualitative Data, Greta Gray, Ms, Otr/L
Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate Culminating Presentations
A systematic, credible, and dependable coding matrix was developed to deductively code the qualitative data from the Clinician’s Perceptions of Infusing Coaching into their Occupational Therapy Practice study (CPIC). A coding matrix is used to organize qualitative data into meaningful units of text to be interpreted by the researchers. Codes for this project were deductively organized under categories from Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation Theory (RDIT), a framework that identifies how a new idea is adopted in practice. Five preliminary coders, with one leading the process, participated in the development of the coding matrix to reduce the risk of bias influencing …

Summer 2023 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Substance use disorder (SUD) is a problematic pattern of use of a substance or substances, leading to impairments to health, social function, and control of a substance. This negatively affects everyday activities of daily living, and occupation performance that causes a disruption to physical, mental, and social health.
Now, Neurofeedback is a noninvasive biotherapy that uses audio or video feedback to reinforce healthy brain function. This type of intervention usually works by having a patient listen to music and putting electrodes on a patient’s head that pick up negative or positive brain activity or waves. And if the negative activity …

(2012) Enhancing Child Parent Relationships Using Child Parent Relationship Therapy (Cprt), Erin M. Dugan
Louisiana Journal of Counseling
Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) has been growing in research over the past few years. Studies have indicated that CPRT is an effective approach to enhancing the child-parent relationship (Landreth & Bratton, 2006; Edwards, Sullivan, Meany-Walen, Kantor, 2010; Sheely-Moore & Ceballos, 2011). CPRT encourages parents to strengthen and enhance their relationships with their child(ren) based on the development of increased levels of empathy and acceptance. Although there have been quantitative studies conducted to study the effectiveness of CPRT, limited studies have researched qualitative outcomes. This pilot study measures qualitative outcomes of one group of participants over ten sessions using pre/post test …

(2012) Internal Working Models: A Strategy For Enhancing Counselor Supervision, Jennifer R. Curry, Glenn W. Lambie
Louisiana Journal of Counseling
Internal Working Models (IWMs) (Bowlby, 1988) provide a viable framework for conceptualizing supervisees’ development within the counselor supervision process. IWMs are the intrapersonal schematic for an individual’s interpersonal relations and significantly influence a supervisee’s interactional dynamics, development, and wellness within the context of both the therapeutic and supervisory relationships. Additionally, IWMs may be utilized within counseling supervision as a strategy to explore a supervisee’s theoretical orientation, case conceptualization, and the transference of theory to practice. This article introduces a supervision strategy grounded in IWMs to support supervisees’ development and offers a case illustration of the tool.

College students were surveyed regarding their use of websites and BLOG/discussion boards that promote and/or discourage and treat suicidal and self-injurious behavior. The students surveyed related that they were more likely to use websites and BLOG/discussion boards that discourage and treat suicidal and self-injurious behaviors. The results also indicated that the respondents had a higher percentage of response to acknowledging that peers have been influenced by websites/discussion boards/BLOGS that encourage suicidal and self-injurious behaviors. Overall, these findings support the notion that the viewing of harmful self-injury websites is not widespread.
