The Ecology Of Mosquito Borne Viruses, Carl M. Eklund
The Ecology Of Mosquito Borne Viruses, Carl M. Eklund
United States Public Health Resources
The ecology of a mosquito borne virus involves a consideration of the growth of the virus within the vertebrate and arthropod hosts, the reaction of these hosts to the presence of the virus, and the vertebrate-arthropod associations which are necessary for the dissemination and maintenance of the virus. Little is known of the physiological properties of a particular host and virus which permit multiplication of the virus. In this review stress will be laid u pon studies which attempt to discover the mechanisms in nature which maintain these viruses. The first section will relate to the geographical distribution and time …

Nutritional Status Of Some Utah Population Groups, Almeda Perry Brown
Nutritional Status Of Some Utah Population Groups, Almeda Perry Brown
Faculty Honor Lectures
The science of nutrition is the science of life. Though man is still ignorant of the true nature of that elusive force we call life, he has learned by means of the discovered laws of nutrition how to preserve and prolong life as well as how to add to the satisfactions of living.
The emergence of the sicence of nutrition from the maze of superstition which for centuries clouded man's thinking is a fascinating story. A story, however, that arouses a feeling of regret that for so long a time man was willing to attribute to supernatural forces all phenomena …

Health At The Preschool Ages, Hubert Stanley Coffey
Health At The Preschool Ages, Hubert Stanley Coffey
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
The preschool child is the forgotten child of our health programs. When the community undertakes a health program of a preventive kind such as vaccination or health examination, too frequently it is limited to those children attending the public schools. Here the children are assembled and it is easier to carry out any specific health measure. The public health nurse or official may more easily identify diseases among these children. Because of their close association, epidemics among children are thought more dangerous and are more easily coped with. But such measures are just as urgently needed with the preschool child.

Transactions Of The Plague Control Conference Of The United States Public Health Service And Twelve Western States, United States Public Health Service
Elusive Documents
The plague problem is potentially of grave public health importance. The history of this disease over a period of centuries shows that it has several times assumed epidemic proportions, especially in cities. History also shows that when the disease appears in bubonic form contracted from rat fleas, it sooner or later may assume the pneumonic type and be spread from person to person with fatal results.
From the evidence presented to the conference it appears that complete control of plague is not economically feasible without a great increase in Federal, State, and local expenditures. It is recommended that funds are …
