Surgical Treatment Of Portal Hypertension: Review Of Henry Ford Hospital Experience, Joseph P. Elliott Jr., Kian H. Wong, Roger F. Smith
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Of 146 operations performed for the complications of portal hypertension in the Henry Ford Hospital between 1927 and August 31, 1969, 114 were portasystemic shunts. Operative mortality, sequelae and long term survival were closely related to the state of the patients' liver function and the urgency of operation.

A Follow-Up Study Of Families With Children Labeled Retarded, Connie Finley
Dissertations and Theses
The research problem undertaken was to study how effective the University of Oregon Medical School--Crippled Children's Division Clinic is by determining how well patients followed through on Clinic recommendations. Three research hypotheses were posed for testing.
- There is a difference between income and the following of Clinic recommendations.
- There is a difference between educational levels of fathers and mothers and the following of Clinic recommendations.
- There is a difference in the level of I.Q. of patients and the following of Clinic recommendations.
A random sample of 100 cases was selected from the patients who had been through the Clinic prior …

Pneumatosis Cystoides Intestinalis: The Report Of A Case Associated With Severe Pulmonary Disease And Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Russell J. Crider, Philip Bentlif
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis is discussed with emphasis on its clinical, radiologic, sigmoidoscopic, surgical and pathological characteristics. The four theories of the etiology of P.Cl. are neoplastic, infectious, nutritional, and mechanical. These theories are discussed, and a case of P.C.I, associated with severe pulmonary disease and chronic lymphocytic leukemia is presented to lend support to the mechanical theory.

The Chemistry Of Pesticides, Walter R. Benson
United States Food and Drug Administration: Publications
Introduction
This review is limited to the structures and a few reactions of the pesticides mainly insecticides-that affect mammalian systems and that are the subject of papers by other authors in this monograph. There is no attempt to give a complete review of the chemistry of pesticides. It is intended only to show the breadth and depth of pesticide chemistry through the use of examples. With proper use of the references, and of the papers by Crosby, Freed and Montgomery, and Owens in this monograph, the reader will be able to find information for other chemicals.

The Development And Evaluation Of A Manual For Use In Community Nutrition Education Classes, Helen H. Register
The Development And Evaluation Of A Manual For Use In Community Nutrition Education Classes, Helen H. Register
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
A manual was prepared and evaluated for use by non-professional personnel in community nutrition education. Instruction and suggestions were given for organizing these classes and techniques outlined for food demonstrations. Material was written for lectures and tests on eight nutrition topics, with visual aid suggestions, recipes and "chatter" to accompany the recipes.
The material was tested by presenting three of the eight topics before audiences. Volunteer non-professional teacher-demonstrators gave the presentations which were evaluated by test scores from the audiences, by score forms from each teacher-demonstrator, and by evaluation sheets from the advisory committee.
On the basis of the evaluation, …

Enzyme Histochemistry Of The Human Carotid Body, Gerald Fine, Pablo Enriquez, Azorides R. Morales
Enzyme Histochemistry Of The Human Carotid Body, Gerald Fine, Pablo Enriquez, Azorides R. Morales
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Histochemical enzymatic survey of 25 "normal" human carotid bodies removed at autopsy from patients three days to 83 years of age revealed a variety of oxidative and hydrolytic enzymes in the lobular and interlobular cells. The intensity of the reactions was greater in the lobular cells. Acid phosphatase was the only enzyme that was limited to the cells comprising the lobules.

Clinical And Histopathological Aspects Of Salivary Gland Tumors: A Review, Bruce N. Epker
Clinical And Histopathological Aspects Of Salivary Gland Tumors: A Review, Bruce N. Epker
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
A presumptive clinical diagnosis of salivary gland tumor can usually be made by taking an accurate history, performing a careful clinical examination, and utilizing essential radiographic and sialographic aids. Once a tumor is identified, differential diagnosis between benign and/or malignant involvement, and the exact tumor type becomes more formidable, frequently requiring histological diagnosis. Since optimum treatment is dependent upon an accurate differential diagnosis and surgical management according to tumor type, the clinical and histological aspects of salivary gland tumors are reviewed. A thorough knowledge of these characteristics allows an accurate diagnosis and provides the indications for proper treatment.
Spontaneous Rupture Of The Esophagus: Report Of A Successfully Managed Case, Eduardo Arciniegas
Spontaneous Rupture Of The Esophagus: Report Of A Successfully Managed Case, Eduardo Arciniegas
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Spontaneous rupture of the esophagus should be suspected in any patient developing severe chest pain after vomiting. The diagnosis is substantiated by the presence of subcutaneous emphysema in the suprasternal region on physical examination and of mediastinal air on the plain chest roentgenogram. Further radiological confirmation may be obtained by oral administration of a watersoluble radio-opaque material. Immediate surgical repair of the esophageal tear is mandatory.
Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Art In Psychotherapy, Robert R. Schopbach
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
Art is a tool too often neglected in psychotherapy. A careful study of a patient's drawings will provide information concerning diagnosis, dynamics, and progress. If, in addition, the patient explains and elaborates upon the content and symbolism, the drawings become excellent psychotherapeutic devices providing an entry into the patient's unconscious.

Normal Serum Protein Levels In Syrian (Golden) Hamsters: Compared With The Protein Levels In Sv 40 Tumor Bearing And Sv 40 Immune Hamsters, Hajime Hayashi, Nansie Sharpless, Gerald A. Logrippo
Henry Ford Hospital Medical Journal
A study of 149 hamsters indicates that there are periods in life when the animal is immune to tumor induction by a known virus. By studying normal serum protein levels, standards were established for the adult age and for the tumor forming period. The data emphasize the importance of the immunologic status of the host for virus induction of tumors.
