This collection is primarily composed of letters from George Hechler to his sister Kate Hechler during his service in the 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. The letters discuss George’s experience in the Civil War, covering camp life at Parkersburg and Summersville, to the battlefields of Lewisburg, Antietam, Chickamauga and others. All letters include typescript transcriptions of the text in separate folders, and one letter includes a piece of printed ephemera as an enclosure. The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

Bobwhite Quail Food Habits In The Southeastern United States With A Seed Key To Important Foods, J. Larry Landers, A. Sydney Johnson

Galliformes Specialist Group and Affiliated Societies: Reports and Other Materials

A search of the literature revealed 27 studies of food habits of bobwhite quail in the southeastern United States. These include data from nearly 20 ,000 birds. In this publication all seed foods reported in these studies are listed and evaluated, and a key to important species is included. Over 650 seed foods are listed, and volume and frequency classes are given for each seed food as reported in each study. Only 78 foods comprised 1 percent or more of the food volume in one or more studies. The 45 most important foods are ranked for each physiographic province. The …

During the decade of the 1960's there was continually increasing interest in the programs of public welfare. This interest sprang from several sources. Citizens, always worried about welfare expenditures, developed resurgent concern. Recipients, long a quiet group, became more active, forming the National Welfare Rights Organization. And then there was the rediscovery of poverty as a social problem, and a realization that very many Americans were poor, many more than anyone had somehow realized.

The concern of this dissertation is planning theory and practice; its purpose is to make planning more responsive to the problems of the city. The premise that the study is built on is that social planning must be in harmony with the nature of its subject matter, and that social problems is its subject matter. The supposition is that if we grasp the nature of social problems and build planning theory and practice on these insights, planning efforts will be more relevant and more effective.

Our study is concerned with the effects of filing for divorce on the behavior of children. We are interested in the adjustment of the child to the changes which occur during separation and divorce, and we maintain the attitude that the lives of children are affected in some way when a marriage or family unit dissolves. A generally accepted belief is that divorce produces negative consequences in the lives of children as shown in their behavior. During the past several years, service delivery for mental health in Clark County has changed dramatically. The increase in funding from the federal government in the 1960's, the trend toward de-institutionalization, the emphasis on local control and administration, the proliferation of service agencies and types of programs, and the increase in demand for mental health services, has created the complex, multi-dimensional, multi-funded "system" called the mental health system.

The purpose of this study was to identify the functional problems and informational needs of LDS chaplains and bring together official Church statements in relation to them. A list of these needs was obtained by use of interviews and questionnaires from chaplains who have served since the Korean War. Information was also gathered from Military Relations Department files of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Research revealed that many Church statements, pertaining to functional problems and informational needs, were in existence but were not always easily accessible or did not adequately answer specific questions. It was also found …

Since its organization, the Church has kept records of its members and their Church activity. The foremost means of gathering this data has been printed report forms. This thesis traces the history of formal reports used by the Church and emphasizes information on membership and vital data as well as activity in Priesthood and auxiliary organizations. Financial reports of organizations and individual persons, as well as personalized confidential reports and minutes of meetings were not used. The thesis analyzes the type of information called for rather than the statistical figures themselves.

Federal legislation enacted in January 1974 created federal agencies to produce a rail plan process for the Northeast United States and to monitor and evaluate the programs. A a result of the federal enactment, many states are producing rail plans. Wisconsin is presently preparing one such plan which included the elements of freight operations. The State also has produced a Manual for State Railroad Planning. Both documents have included railroad abandonment as topic of discussion. The present planning process in the State is not sufficient to determine future courses of action concerning abandonments. A case study is presented to determine …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Regional Urban Economic Indicators."

Beginning with this issue of the Review, CAUR will compile and report quarterly economic data pertaining to 25 Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas {SMSA's) located in the 11-state Mid-Continent Region. The states included in this Region are Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. Comparative statistics on {1) average weekly income of production workers, {2) non-agricultural wage and salary employment, {3) employment in the construction industry, and {4) unemployment are presented in Table I for each of the 25 SMSA's.

The development of Reston, Virginia and Columbia, Maryland in the early 1960's produced much speculation concerning the role of new towns in future urban growth. Supporters of new towns have offered them as prescriptions for many of the ills found in urban America today: as opposed to the sprawling, often poorly designed and frequently single class typical suburban community. However, in the decade that has passed since the inception of Reston and Columbia large numbers of planned new towns have not been built, due in large part to the myriad problems of new town development which are now general knowledge.

The city of Stamford, Connecticut has an Urban Renewal project as have most Urban centers. The Family Relocation Divison of Stamford's Urban Redevelopment Commission (URC) entered into a contract with the Family and Children's Services (FCS) to provide one day a week consultation to the Relocation staff and client services to the families in the renewal area. This consultation involved in-service training programs geared toward helping the relocation staff increase their skills in identifying problems within families and in assisting families to obtain help. It also includes the separate or collaborative work of other disciplines, especially psychology, anthropology, social psychology, architecture and urban planning. Introduction. This is a study of the relocation patterns of Chinese-Canadian residents in an area undergoing urban renewal in Vancouver in the late 1960's. The study shows the inadequacies of simplistic social planning. The study indicates the need to understand the variety of responses to forced relocation, based on social class, the stage in the family life cycle and ethnicity. The study points out the different ways various families view the old neighborhood and the Chinese community as a whole, and, as part of this, how they view urban renewal.
