The Role Of The Crbrp In Meeting The Nation's Energy Requirements, Donald R. Riley

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

For over two decades the United States has been conducting research and development on the breeder reactor concept - - - an advanced reactor that breeds or produces more nuclear fuel than it consumes. The Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant (CRBRP) is the nation's first large scale breeder designed to demonstrate the feasibility of producing electricity for commercial consumption. Utilization Of Fission Products In Thermal Systems, Harold D. Hollis, Gary S. Stewart

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

The Army is investigating the use of solidified fission product wastes as a heat source for thermal utility systems on military installations. A boiler system has been conceptually designed, thermal and radiological requirements are still being investigated. The application of nuclear waste as a heat source affects the entire scope of nuclear waste management offering both benefits and problems which must be examined thoroughly before final conclusions can be drawn.

Reallocation Of Responsibilities And/Or Financing For Selected Municipal Services To The State: A Municipal Finance Alternative, Joseph S. Slavet, Katharine L. Bradbury, Philip I. Moss, Boston Urban Observatory, University Of Massachusetts Boston Oct 1973

Reallocation Of Responsibilities And/Or Financing For Selected Municipal Services To The State: A Municipal Finance Alternative, Joseph S. Slavet, Katharine L. Bradbury, Philip I. Moss, Boston Urban Observatory, University Of Massachusetts Boston

Boston Urban Observatory Publications

This report recommends that the administration and/or financing of a selected group of public services be shifted from municipalities to the state government in Massachusetts.

Several criteria are used to identify local functions and local fiscal responsibilities which are more suitable for state than local financing. The first criterion is the efficiency of delivery of the service: for some functions, such as solid waste disposal, technology makes it more costly per capita to provide the service separately through individual municipalities than to operate regionally-based waste disposal facilities. This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "Issues in School Desegregation" by Peter E. Pflaum.

The current school desegregation crisis in Omaha makes a review of the issues in school desegregation especially relevant. A Basis For Legislation To Encourage Conservation Of Automobile Energy Fuel, James Pinson Ludwig Jan 1973

A Basis For Legislation To Encourage Conservation Of Automobile Energy Fuel, James Pinson Ludwig

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

A detailed basis for legislation to institute a system of rating automobiles according to their energy costs is proposed, together with mechanisms to tax wasteful uses of energy associated with cars. A complementary rebate system for owners of very efficient vehicles also is proposed. This proposal is advanced instead of systems of increasing energy supplies or gasoline rationing to control consumer demand.
