Juveniles In Nebraska Jails And Lockups, Center For Public Affairs Research (Cpar)

This study was undertaken in order to develop information that could be used to assess the feasibility of Nebraska compliance with federal guidelines under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act for removing juveniles from jails and lockups for adults. Information derived from existing literature, official data on juveniles in Nebraska jails, data generated from a study of existing alternative detention facilities, and a survey of sheriffs was used. In addition, a policy analysis of Nebraska laws and proposed changes in federal JJDPA law was undertaken.

Historically, Boston schools have been a source of pride and educational innovation, yet they have also been fraught with problems that are typical of urban education. Both the success achieved and the problems encountered in Boston schools bear analysis. In looking at such areas as overall quality of education, funding, and compliance with federal guidelines, specific recommendations for the future of public education in Boston can be offered. On April 1, 1984 the Center for Applied Urban Research initiated a study of the requirements for automated word processing for the city of Omaha. The study involved the collection and analysis of information regarding the amount and kind of typing activities in each city department in the civic center. The purpose was to determine whether automated word processing would be feasible and practical in these departments and, if so, how many word processing work stations and printers would be required.

This report is the second phase of what is known as the Washington County Urban Services Study. First phase research commenced in March, 1983 and was completed in December, 1983. The focus of this first phase was the comparative cost of urban service provision by jurisdiction by service for the cities, special districts (excluding schools) and County that provide services inside the Washington County Urban Growth Boundary. The results of this research were reported in "Expenditures for Urban Services in Washington County: A Benchmark Comparison" which was issued in January, 1984.
