Industrial Energy Conservation: In-Plant Recirculation Of Cleaned Exhaust Air, Richard L. Shelton
Industrial Energy Conservation: In-Plant Recirculation Of Cleaned Exhaust Air, Richard L. Shelton
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
The concept of recirculation as a means of energy conservation and reducing initial investment costs has received increased attention in the technical literature in recent years. This paper will demonstrate the energy savings potential for recirculation systems and will present industrial hygiene measurements to document the performance of an actual system operating in an industrial environment. Operating experience has shown that the dual goals of industrial hygiene and energy conservation are not easily achieved.
Possibilities Of Combined Heat Recovery And Air Pollution Control Systems, V. Frank Mach
Possibilities Of Combined Heat Recovery And Air Pollution Control Systems, V. Frank Mach
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Combined heat recovery with air pollution control is applicable on many industrial high temperature emissions. Some methods are discussed in this paper. Two examples illustrate that such a combination offers benefit in both energy conservation and less costly protection of the environment.
Waste Heat Recovery In Oklahoma Industry, W. C. Turner, R. E. Webb, J. M. Phillips
Waste Heat Recovery In Oklahoma Industry, W. C. Turner, R. E. Webb, J. M. Phillips
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
There is presently a great deal of interest in renewable source or "free" energy. The U. S. Department of Energy recognizes waste heat as one of these renewable sources and much effort is being exercised to fully utilize waste heat capabilities.
Industry in Oklahoma has recognized the wealth of potential in waste heat recovery and has completed numerous projects in the area. This paper summarizes the major Oklahoma industrial waste heat projects. For each project, the objectives, results, and suggestions are given. Particular emphasis is given on cost effectiveness, evaluation and application to other industries.

Energy Audits In New Mexico: Plans And Programs, Thomas T. Shishman
Energy Audits In New Mexico: Plans And Programs, Thomas T. Shishman
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
New Mexico is planning and has implemented programs to provide Class A, B, and C energy audits to its citizens. These audits provide information to the owner/occupant of a structure about areas of energy waste and the economics of future actions and retrofit opportunities. Current programs include Class B audits for public schools and residences and Class C workbooks for schools, offices, and homes. Future projects will provide Class C workbooks for mobile homes and small businesses and development of a Class A program for non-residential structures.
Comparison Of Stirred And Immobilized Cell Reactors For Ethanol Production, Oliver C. Sitton, J. L. Gaddy
Comparison Of Stirred And Immobilized Cell Reactors For Ethanol Production, Oliver C. Sitton, J. L. Gaddy
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Biomass can be converted to sugars by hydrolysis with enzymes or mineral acids. These sugars can be converted into a number of chemical intermediates in biological reactors. Biological reactions are generally slow and selection of the most efficient reactor is important in these applications.
Immobilized cell reactors allow high cell densities and high throughput by attaching microorganisms to a fixed support. This paper compares the rate of production of ethanol from glucose by Saccharomyces Cerevisiae in a packed column and a stirred reactor.
Continuous stirred reactor studies showed a washout rate of .27 hr-1. The optimum rate of …

The Transition: An Historical-Materialist Perspective On Social Welfare And Social Work Practice, Thomas Keefe
The Transition: An Historical-Materialist Perspective On Social Welfare And Social Work Practice, Thomas Keefe
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
From an historical-materialist perspective American society is in a transition to a new structural form--a new order. The future of social welfare and social work practice is intimately bound to the nature and outcome of this transition. Moreover, the transition has economic and ideological characteristics that hold important implications for changes in the ways social workers view their clients and conduct their practice. Employing an historicalmaterialist analysis, this article will discuss the nature of the societal transition and its implications for social welfare and social work practice.
The analysis will be prefaced with a synopsis of basic concepts and assumptions …

Park Visitor Responses To Natural Hazards, Lee H. Rentz
Park Visitor Responses To Natural Hazards, Lee H. Rentz
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Natural hazards have been an increasing problem in wildland recreation areas. This study attempted to identify factors affecting park visitor perception of and preparedness for hazards.
A model was formulated incorporating three major independent variables which might affect park visitor responses to hazards. These were: (1) previous experience, (2) information about hazards provided by the park administration (such as warnings located on signs or in brochures), and (3) visitor perception of whether responsibility for hazards rests with the individual or with an outside authority such as government or God. Trip length and knowledge of hazards were also thought to be …
