Multidimensionality Of Power Use In Organizations And Its Correlates, Weizhong Dong
Multidimensionality Of Power Use In Organizations And Its Correlates, Weizhong Dong
Dissertations and Theses
The present study was conducted to examine power use patterns and general power use strategies in organizations multidimensionally (i.e., downward, upward, and lateral directions of power use), to extend and explain previous findings by Kipnis et al. (1980), with reference to situational effects on multidimensional power use. The samples in this study consist of 230 full-time managers who were from eight local businesses, and a second sample of 140 college students who worked over 15 hours a week at the time of the study. Two exploratory factor analyses resulted in five commonly used power patterns and two general power use …
Opinions About Sex Offenders' Progress In Therapy, Laren Bays
Opinions About Sex Offenders' Progress In Therapy, Laren Bays
Dissertations and Theses
Sex offenders are often required by the court to enter therapy and receive help so they can stop deviant sexual behaviors. Mental health professionals must have some means of evaluating a mandated client's progress in therapy, however, there are currently no valid criteria available. A survey form was developed containing 73 items which professionals identified as having possible utility in evaluating progress.
Adult Student Perceptions Of Traditionally Sex-Typed Toys, Shelly Lynn Jackson
Adult Student Perceptions Of Traditionally Sex-Typed Toys, Shelly Lynn Jackson
Dissertations and Theses
studies have examined children's toy preferences as they relate to sex-role development. However, studies have failed to examine the dimensions of the toys themselves. Because adults purchase the majority of toys children receive, this study sought to determine adult student perceptions of children's traditionally sex-typed toys. Eighty-one participants rated ten selected toys. Multidimensional scaling analysis revealed five underlying dimensions. The five dimensions included Productive Play, Sociability, Structure, Gender, and Age. It was discovered that the Gender dimension was less salient than both the Productive Play and Sociability dimensions. The dimensions pertaining to each toy are discussed.
The Inventory Of Negative Thoughts In Response To Pain And The Pain Cognition List: Norms And Psychometric Properties Of Two Measures Of Pain Cognition, Timothy John Haines
The Inventory Of Negative Thoughts In Response To Pain And The Pain Cognition List: Norms And Psychometric Properties Of Two Measures Of Pain Cognition, Timothy John Haines
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The Inventory of Negative Thoughts in Response to Pain (INTRP) and the Pain Cognition List (PCL) are two instruments recently developed to assess pain patients ' cognitions. Although both measures appear to be psychometrically sound, the reliability and validity of these measures have received inadequate attention. The norms and psychometric properties of both measures were investigated in a nonclinical college population. For each measure, items loading on the extracted factors differed somewhat for the normative samples. Thus, the factor structures of both inventories were investigated, using principal components factor analysis. Satisfactory internal consistency estimates were obtained for each factor scale …
Event Frequency Estimations For Non-Semantic Items, Max Ingersoll
Event Frequency Estimations For Non-Semantic Items, Max Ingersoll
Modern Psychological Studies
In order to further clarify the roles of labeling and semantic processing in event frequency encoding, fifty-six undergraduate students were tested on their memory for frequency of sounds. One half of the subjects were presented with familiar sounds (i.e. a telephone ring or wind chimes) and the other half with single musical notes or tones. The use of tones was to defeat the attempts at semantic labeling of the stimuli. It was found that subjects in the familiar sounds condition displayed a significant ability at estimating event frequency. Subjects in the pure tones condition, however, displayed no such ability.
Inside And Outside: Gene, Environment And Organism, Richard C. Lewontin
Inside And Outside: Gene, Environment And Organism, Richard C. Lewontin
Heinz Werner Lectures
"I was in some doubt that I could say anything to psychologists that would be both interesting and true. I then realized that psychology is a branch of biology for which the general problems of development are supremely relevant and that as a geneticist working at a time when DNA seems to dominate every mode of biological explanation, I could be useful to psychologyists if I could present the more sane truth about genes, environment and organism."
