Mental illness is one of the greatest public health problems and foremost challenges of our time. However, because of improved medical practices and modern research methods, more mental patients are now being released and returned to society than at any other recorded period.

The mentally ill person loses touch with reality. Things that once were of primary concern are no longer important. A Study Of The Effect Of Varying Serum Phenylalanine Levels On Changes In Intelligence Quotient, Darlene Imai Manullang

Data from thirty medical records of phenylketonuric children under treatment were investigated to determine at which serum phenylalanine level (0-3.9 mg. %, 4-7.9 mg %, 8-11.9 mg. %, greater than 12 mg. %) there would be the greatest increase in intelligence. The children involved in the study were divided into the following groups according to the age dietary treatment was initiated: 0 through 5 months, 6 through 11 months, 12 through 23 months, and over 2 years of age.

Hospital personnel are becoming more aware of the fact that hospitalization is traumatic to the emotional life of the young child. Since eating habits and emotions are so closely allied, it is probable that the young child's eating pattern will be affected during hospitalization. The purpose of this study was to determine the reaction of children between the ages of one through four to food during the first three days of hospitalization at the White Memorial Hospital. Temporal disorganization is a symptom of disorder manifested by both the aged psychotic and the harmless sanile. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of temporal judgment, specifically the adult human’s ability to judge the passage of time accurately, to chronological age. The study was suggested by a prominent geriatrician who conjecture as to whether the disability to estimate and to order time effectively was a dysfunction peculiar to senility and its gradual deterioration even in normal human beings in the ability to judge time accurately.

A survey of the literature reveals a substantial body of research concerned with the effects of food and/or water deprivation on body weight, food and water intake, and activity of the albino rat. This research is important because many psychological experiments, particularly those studies in the field of animal learning in which motivation is induced by the use of a nutritional maintenance schedule, require some measurement of performance on consecutive days during which the rats are in a motivational state.

The major and minor problems of the thesis are as follows: Are the children treated at the Hays Clinic as a group mentally, temperamentally and socially normal enough to justify the state in attempting to make them physically well? What are the sociological and psychological effects of occupational therapy and school work upon patients in the clinic? In order to arrive at a solution of the foregoing problems, a study of 100 children entering the Hays Crippled Children's Clinic was made . Both laboratory and questionnaire methods were used.

The purpose of this study is evaluating the relationship between resistance training and its effects on obese adolescents with the purpose of reducing physical inactivity. One method includes improving strength in obese children through strength exercises. As well as the effectiveness of resistance training on psychological components such as self-efficacy, exercise competence, and self-esteem as a means of increasing long term exercise adherence.
