Euthanasia Or Mercy Killings, George Joseph Nicoud Apr 1937

Euthanasia Or Mercy Killings, George Joseph Nicoud

Bachelors’ Theses

In this modern and changing world new problems are constantly arising and older ones are being dispensed with. Man has to adapt himself almost daily to changing and more complex situations. The world has advanced to such an extent that in this present generation we are known as "human machines" rather than human beings. Men are worked until they drop off from the strain or they work until they are broken, decrepit old men, no longer a use to anybody and a burden to almost everybody. As our modernity progressed, so also did conventions and ideas. Ideas of morals changed. …

The Ethics Of William James, W Dean Lowry Mar 1937

The Ethics Of William James, W Dean Lowry

Bachelors’ Theses

In our own time Psychology holds the vital position in philosophical discussion. This came about naturally in the trend of modern thought. Towards the middle of the nineteenth century the Science-Philosophy arose emancipating the philosophical theory of evolution based upon data of the Physical Sciences. This theory was confidently claimed to be the solution and the explanation of all Wings. To realize these hopes its advocates contended that man also was included in the great evolutive process. Hence the discussion about man’s place in nature became the crucial problem. Had man a spiritual nature with an immortal destiny, or was …

In order to arrive at a solution of the foregoing problems, a study of 100 children entering the Hays Crippled Children's Clinic was made . Both laboratory and questionnaire methods were used.

The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas Jun 1930

The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas

Education Student Dissertations

While reading the "Principles of Educational Sociology" by Walter Robinson Smith, the writer was deeply impressed by the statement that "Next to the family group and home life, the play group and play life exert the most vital influence upon the unfolding personality of the child." The writer wondered if it was the absence of play life, as American born children of fair social background experience it, that would in some measure explain the dullness of the Italian-American child of Sicilian and Neapolitan origin, who, as the writer knew him, was so lovable, so anxious and eager to please and …

A History Of The Treatment Of Insanity In Massachusetts, Robert U. Cooper

Historical Dissertations & Theses

In this thesis, an attempt has been made to sketch the progress in the treatment of mental disorders, from the earliest records to the present time. The introductory account of the conditions before the seventeenth century briefly considers the methods employed in Europe and Northern Africa prior to that date, while the main narrative is confined principally to the advancement achieved in Massachusetts since the Colonial days. For the sake of convenience and clarity, the legislative progress, the development of institutions and the improvement in methods of treatment, have been separated, as far as expedient, in the presentation of the …

Organic Inferiority And Its Psychic Compensation In Relation To Physical Education, Earl F. Zinn

One of the distinctive features of this viewpoint pertains to the somatic relationship. From this, organic integrity and physical health are seen in a new light. This is of decided significance for physical education.

The increased …
