A Comparison Of Scores Of Negro And White Children On The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children, John Robert Blakemore

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This investigation concerns the intelligence of the Negro population in relation to the white population. There is a considerable difference of opinion relating to the intelligence of the Negro. Some students in the field contend that the Negro's intelligence, as measured by the tests available for all individuals, is naturally lower due to hereditary factors. Other investigators (these seem to be in the majority1 believe that environment plays the major role in lowering their ability to gain a comparable score with white individuals.

A Study Of Personality And Interest Traits Of Successful And Unsuccessful Group Work Leaders Using Six Standardized Tests, Mary E. Flannigan

Student Work

No recreational or leisure-time program can rise above the level of its leadership. No matter how fine the objectives of the Board of Directors and the Executive, if they are not matched by competence of those who actually provide leadership, they fail.

From the standpoint of objectives and policies, nothing so directly determines the value and outcome of a Social Group Work Agency as the leaders in program activities. It is the Group Leaders, whether paid or volunteer, within an agency that reduce to a minimum the gap between the possible and actual effectiveness of the program.

The Relative Stimulus Value Of Voices And Faces As Measured By The Method Of Recognition, William Hill Doub

Master's Theses

When Ebbinghaus published the results of his experimental investigations of memory in 1885 his introductory chapter pointed out the "bare knowledge of the existence of memory and its effects." Historically in studies of memory our information came in large measure from the observation of the extreme and especially striking cases. The difficulties of scientific studies and the indefinite unspecialised knowledge of the nature of memory vas almost prohibitive in undertaking new investigations.

A Comparison Of The Klopfer-Kelly And Beck Methods Of Rating Intelligence Level From The Rorschach Test, William K. Bates

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The problem in this investigation concerns the Klopfer-Kelley and the Beck methods of interpreting intelligence from the Rorschach Test. Stated generally, the problem is to find which one of these two methods of intelligence interpretation of the Rorschach Test is the more efficient in determining a true intelligence level, or, whether they are equally good. Specifically the problem concerns the determination of the degree of correlation of the results of each of these two methods with the Wechsler-Bellevue Adult Intelligence Scale. This problem is concerned primarily with height or degree of intelligence, excluding the type of intelligence.

An Analysis Of Academic Achievement In Psychology, Charles Spital

Master's Theses

Some kinds of educational tests have been in use for centuries, dating back to oral tests of Socrates. It was not until 1845, however, that the brilliant Horace Mann first pointed to the advantage of written essay examinations over oral. And even then he could not precipitate any great rush toward the use of written tests.

The Formation And Retention Of Concepts As A Function Of Their Abstractness, Ruth Baker Hines Jul 1949

The Formation And Retention Of Concepts As A Function Of Their Abstractness, Ruth Baker Hines

(2) What is the relation of abstractness to the percentage of consistent concepts learned and retained? (3) What is the relation of the number of promptings required to learn and relearn consistent or correct as compared with inconsistent or incorrect concepts? Q. scores and a comparison of the scores of students in early adolescence with those in middle …

A Study Of The 1947 American Council On Education Psychological Examination And Its Usefulness In Predicting The Grades Of Utah State Agricultural College Freshmen, Russell B. Bateson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Prediction of future performance is attempted in almost every field of endeavor. The accuracy varies in different lines of study, and perhaps none is as subject to variability as those attempted with human beings as subjects.

When an attempt is made to ascertain in advance the performance of college students in their schoolwork, a multiplicity of complicating problems are introduced. Whereas intelligence can be fairly well isolated, it is difficult to control or even enumerated all the other factors that come into the problem of predicting grades from scores received on an intelligence examination. Among the factors that are difficult …

An Analysis Of Vocabulary Variables At The College Level, Betty Ann Allen

Master's Theses

The strength and growth of vocabulary is one or the decisive factors in successful college work. Educators find it helpful to evaluate not only the general vocabulary ability of the college student, but also the more specialized directions which the development of the student 's vocabulary may take.

The author's interest in this problem grew out of the results obtained with freshmen in the Westhampton College orientation program in September 1948. In working up the data from 119 freshmen 's scores on the Michigan Vocabulary Profile Test, results were such as to arouse interest in analysis of freshmen performance on …
