Unital Kadison-Schwarz Type Of Maps, Hajir Khalid Al Zadjali
Theses
Quantum entanglement is an important phenomenon in quantum information theory; its uses range from quantum teleportation and quantum cryptography to solving classical communication problems. One of the issues concerning entanglement is the classification of mixed states into separable states. Positive maps define affine mappings between sets of states of C∗algebras, and have been used to develop a separability criterion for quantum states. Completely positive maps are insensitive to entanglement detection, a weaker notion of positivity is thus needed to detect them. This condition that is stronger than positivity but weaker than complete positivity is given by the Kadison-Schwarz (KS) inequality. …
Quantum Markov Chains Related To Certain Lattice Models, Ali Ghaleb Alaali
Quantum Markov Chains Related To Certain Lattice Models, Ali Ghaleb Alaali
Theses
A central open problem in quantum probability is the establishment of a general theory of Markov fields. This thesis contributes to the general theory by introducing quantum probability and applies it via the construction of quantum Markov chains on different hierarchical lattices (Cayley trees). This thesis examines two types of trees one of which corresponds to the Ising-XY-Model on a Cayley tree of order two which then the existence of Markov chains can be utilized to detect phase transitions. The other discussed model is a (1,3) tree in which the XY-model is considered to determine the existence of a quantum …
Coloring Trivalent Graphs: A Defect Tft Approach, Amit Kumar
Coloring Trivalent Graphs: A Defect Tft Approach, Amit Kumar
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
We show that the combinatorial matter of graph coloring is, in fact, quantum in the sense of satisfying the sum over all the possible intermediate state properties of a path integral. In our case, the topological field theory (TFT) with defects gives meaning to it. This TFT has the property that when evaluated on a planar trivalent graph, it provides the number of Tait-Coloring of it. Defects can be considered as a generalization of groups. With the Klein-four group as a 1-defect condition, we reinterpret graph coloring as sections of a certain bundle, distinguishing a coloring (global-sections) from a coloring …

The study of the luminescence photostability for colloidal nanocrystals is an important task since the understanding of the corresponding physical processes advances new electronic devices based on semiconductor nanoparticles as well as other important applications such as biomarkers. In this paper, we provide the first study and comprehensive analysis of the photostability of the luminescent properties for colloidal CdTe/SiO2 core/shell quantum dots prepared by an aqueous-based method. The quantum dots were exposed to continuous laser radiation during two time intervals with prolonged break in between. The photoluminescence intensity of the quantum dots increased over time under continuous laser irradiation. …

The disposal of heavy metals from various activities has become a pervasive issue. The investigation of sustain-able, low-cost adsorbents for the remediation of these hazardous pollutants has been widely disregarded. This research emphasizes the recovery of selenium ions from contaminated water using lemon peels as a cost-effective adsorbent. The adsorption was explored in a batch unit under various operational parameters, including initial selenium concentration (1-90 ppm), pH (1-11), agitation speed (100-500 rpm), adsorbent dose (0.4-5.5 g), contact time (5-180 minutes), and temperature (25-55 °C). The BET surface area of the lemon peels was found to be 27.86 m²/g before adsorption …

Microquasars are laboratories for the study of jets of relativistic particles produced by accretion onto a spinning black hole. Microquasars are near enough to allow detailed imaging of spatial features across the multiwavelength spectrum. The recent extension measurement of the spatial morphology of a microquasar, SS 433, to TeV gamma rays1 localizes the acceleration of electrons at shocks in the jet far from the black hole2. V4641 Sagittarii (V4641 Sgr) is a similar binary system with a black hole and B-type main-sequence companion star and has an orbit period of 2.8 days (refs. 3,4). It stands …

Super-Resolution Magnetic Microscopy And Earth’S Field Magnetometry With Color Centers In Diamond, Nazanin Mosavian
Optical Science and Engineering ETDs
In recent years, the negatively charged nitrogen- vacancy (NV) center has emerged as a promising solid-state color center capable of measuring magnetic fields with high sensi- tivity and spatial resolution under ambient conditions. In this thesis I will discuss how we perform super resolution magnetic microscopy and acquire magnetic field images of nanoparticle samples at 100 nm resolution. I will explain how 3D flux concentrators increase magnetic field amplitude and allows us to measure vector component magnetic fields as low as 50 µT with a diamond magnetometer, without the use of an additional bias magnetic field. I also describe how …

Numerically Efficient Coherent Mode Representations For Partially Coherent Beams With Separable Phases, Milo W. Hyde, Carolina Rickenstorff
Faculty Publications
We present a method to numerically compute the coherent mode representations (CMRs) for partially coherent beams with separable phases. This special class of random light field has the ability to self-focus and is resistant to turbulence-induced degradation, making it potentially useful in applications such as optical communications. We validate our method by generating (in simulation) two such sources from the literature using their computed CMRs. Lastly, we conclude with a summary of our approach and a discussion of potential applications.

An Introduction To The Time-Independent Schrödinger Equation And Methods To Solve It, Vu Giang, Alex Gnech
OUR Journal: ODU Undergraduate Research Journal
The Time-Independent Schrödinger Equation is a linear elliptic PDE that describes quantum-mechanical systems. Its significance in the science of submicroscopic phenomena, particularly quantum mechanics, is as central as Newton’s laws of motion are to classical mechanics. This study uses various methods, including novel neural networks and finite difference schemes, to solve the one-dimensional two-body equation.

We consider classical, interacting particles coupled to a thermal reservoir and subject to a local, time-varying potential while undergoing hops on a lattice. We impose detailed balance on the hopping rates and map the dynamics to the Fock space Doi representation, from which we derive the Jarzynski and Crooks relations. Here the local potential serves to drive the system far from equilibrium and to provide the work. Next, we utilize the coherent state representation to map the system to a Doi–Peliti field theory and take the continuum limit. We demonstrate that time reversal in this field theory takes the form …

Superconducting resonator couplers will likely become an essential component in modular semiconductor quantum dot (QD) spin qubit processors, as they help alleviate crosstalk and wiring issues as the number of qubits increases. Here, we focus on a three-qubit system composed of two modules: a two-electron triple QD resonator coupled to a single-electron double QD. Using a combination of analytical techniques and numerical results, we derive an effective Hamiltonian that describes the three-qubit logical subspace and show that it accurately captures the dynamics of the system. We examine the performance of short-range and long-range entangling gates, revealing the effect of a …

Automatic Short Answer Grading (ASAG), an escalating realm in natural language understanding, constitutes a focal point of research within the broader field of learning analytics. Over time, many ASAG solutions have been proposed to address the difficulties in teaching. However, no work addressed three crucial aspects of evaluation together, i.e., i) automatic evaluation of brief subjective/descriptive answers written in English, ii) identifying the evaluation inconsistency, and iii) provision of providing feedback about inconsistent evaluation to the evaluator. The current work proposes IntelliGrader, a comprehensive ASAG system that addresses the above-mentioned issues. Automated grading is accomplished through a model answer-based approach. …

Temperature-Dependent Quantum Beats Between Neutral And Charged Excitons In Monolayer Mose2, İbrahi̇m Sarpkaya
Turkish Journal of Physics
We studied the interaction between the neutral and charged excitons of monolayer MoSe2 at various temperatures via quantum beat spectroscopy in the time domain. We introduced temperature as an efficient control knob to regulate the relative photoluminescence intensities of the neutral and charged excitons to obtain maximum quantum beat resolution. Also, our quantum beat measurements under different temperatures indicate that the decoherence time of the coupled exciton-trion state slightly decreases from 530 fs at 3.5 K to 420 fs at 63 K with increased temperature due to the low-energy acoustic phonon-induced dephasing.

Construction of the ERLC (twin LC) collider tangential to LHC will allow investigating ep collisions at essentially higher center-of-mass energies than ERL-50 and LHC based ep collider. Luminosity estimations show that values well exceeding 1034 cm−2s−1 can be achieved for ERLC and HL-LHC based ep colliders. Certainly, proposed ep colliders have great potential for clarifying QCD basics and new physics search in addition to providing precise PDFs for adequate interpretation of the LHC experimental data. Another alternative to the ERL-50 is to construct an e-ring with the same energy and length. In this case, luminosity of order 1034cm−2s−1 can be …

Closed-Loop Adaptive Optics In The Presence Of Speckle And Weak Scintillation, Derek J. Burrell, Mark F. Spencer, Ronald G. Driggers

In this paper, we show that speckle averaging helps to improve adaptive-optics (AO) performance in closed loop as a result of reduced measurement error associated with a Shack–Hartmann wavefront sensor (SHWFS); however, this reduction is rendered ineffective with increasing beacon anisoplanatism. We do so operating in a weak-scintillation regime, where the SHWFS offers robust performance, and using in-plane translation of the illuminated rough surface to accomplish frame-to-frame speckle diversity. Understanding these trade-space limitations is critical when performing AO with non-cooperative, extended-source beacons.

Abstract
Tidal deformations and quasinormal frequencies result when a black hole experiences a perturbation to its geometry, such as by a small mass or a field. These effects can be measured experimentally from gravitational wave data or calculated mathematically using various methods. This paper details various studies that were done to develop meaningful and accurate calculations of tidal Love numbers and quasinormal frequencies, as well as the motivations for such efforts. In addition, various attempts to formulate a more sound interpretation of black hole entropy are discussed, including the shortcomings of some and the significance of these efforts in other …

This study investigates the printability limitations of 3D-printed continuous 316L stainless steel fibre-reinforced polymer composites obtained using the Materials Extrusion (MEX) technique. The objective was to better understand the geometric printing limitations of composites fabricated using continuous steel fibres, based on a combination of bending stiffness testing and piezoresistive property studies. The 0.5 mm composite filaments used in this study were obtained by co-extruding polylactic acid (PLA), with a 316 L stainless steel fibre (SSF) bundle. The composite printability limitations were evaluated by the printing of a series of ’teardrop’ shaped geometries with angles in the range from 5◦ to …

By analyzing the data collected by the Fermi Large Area Telescope, the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System, and High Altitude Water Cherenkov, with the addition of spectral data previously reported by LHAASO, a multiwavelength study of the morphological and spectral features of MGRO J1908+06 provides insight into the origin of the γ-ray emission. The mechanism behind the bright TeV emission is studied by constraining the magnetic field strength, the source age, and the distance through detailed broadband modeling. Both spectral shape …

Wavefront shaping allows focusing light through or inside strongly scattering media, but the background intensity also increases which reduces the target's contrast. By combining transmission or deposition matrices for different regions, we construct joint operators to achieve spatially resolved control of light in diffusive systems. The eigenmode of a contrast operator can maximize the power contrast between a target and its surrounding. A difference operator enhances the power delivery to a target while avoiding the background increase. This work opens the door to coherent control of nonlocal effects in wave transport for practical applications.
