Morrison Cave is located about 50 miles southeast of Butte, Montana. It was named after the man who discovered it. Later it was taken over by the State and renamed Morrison Cave State Park. Recently the government with the aid of the Civilian Conservation Corps has built a new road to the cave and has made the interior more accessible. The name of the cave is now Lewis and Clark Cavern National Monument.

The primary purpose of this paper is to present specific data as a means of explaining the sedimentation conditions at the time of deposition of the Oriskany Sandstone. The data were obtained through the use of laboratory methods upon specimens taken from several outcrops in the vicinity of Monterey, Virginia (see Darton's U.S.G.S. folio No. 51). In addition to the presentation of objective results, the author has attempted to make tentative interpretations of them, based primarily upon textural and shape analysis of the sediment. The history and development of the Nebraska State Museum since 1891 have been summarized in a preliminary manner up to 1925 in the first number of Volume I of the Bulletin of the Nebraska State Museum.1 Since 1927, the collections of the Nebraska State Museum, The University of Nebraska, have been housed in a new building, Morrill Hall, on the city campus of The University of Nebraska. It now seems fitting to report upon the exceptional progress of the past few years, and to acknowledge the fine cooperation of those who have helped to make it possible.

This work was begun in an attempt to study further the preparation of thianthrene from 2-dichlorobenzene and alkali sulfides. g_-Dichlorobenzene is a liquid by-product in the preparation of its solid isomer, E-dichlorobenzene, which is used extensively for controlling moths and peach tree borers. The study of the preparation of thianthrene from the liquid isomer was undertaken because the preparation might develop into a possible use for the large quantities available.

In a previous investigation carried out in these laboratories, Moxon and Franks (1), have shown the toxicity of sodium salts of selenium, vanadium, arsenic and tellurium toward the production of carbon dioxide during yeast fermentation of glucose. The toxicity of the salts occurred in the order given. In the same investigation (1), it was shown that sodium sulfide and sodium sulfite exert an accelerating effect.
