Physical And Chemical Properties Of Soil Profiles Of The Burchard And Steinauer Series, Henry W. Smith, H. F. Rhoades

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

The purpose of this bulletin is to report an investigation of the soils mapped as types of the Burchard and Steinauer series. Burchard soils are described as nearly mature Prairie soils, and Steinauer soils as Lithosols, by the Division of Soil Survey. The C horizons of soils of both series consist of calcareous glacial drift. A part of the conclusions drawn from the investigation of these soils is based upon observations made in the field in southeastern Nebraska, the remainder upon laboratory data for samples taken by horizons from nine profiles.

The purpose of this investigation is to record data per­taining to porosity and permeability derived from physical tests performed on Devonian dolomites occurring in northwestern Montana, and to subsequently summarize the results obtained as an aid in determining the possibility of those dolomites being suitable reservoir rocks for oil and gas accumulation.

Condensers are widely used for many purposes. These devices are employed in one form or another in radio transmitting and allied industries such as television and amplifier circuits. They are used in automatic equipment, telephone, telegraph, and railway signal equipment as well as in condenser type motors. Condensers reduce sparking and arcing at contact relay points, switches, circuit breakers, time clocks, and thermostats. A vital part of a condenser is the dielectric. The nyssa gums are one of the modern genera of trees most certainly present among the petrified woods and forests of the Pacific Northwest. Almost every collection from the mid-Tertiary of this region contains a few specimens of typical tupelo or sour gum. These are fine-grained woods which to the unaided eye may be mistaken for conifers.
