(R2142) Queueing System With Batched Services, Server-Controlled Re-Service, Set-Up Time And Multiple Vacation, S. Karpagam, N. Aarthy, B. Somasundaram

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

To analyze a bulk queueing system with server-controlled admission for reservice, low-batch service, multiple vacation and set-up time. The study explores how the server dynamically adjusts between low-batch and bulk services based on the queue size. After completing a bulk service, the departing batch may request reservice with a certain probability. However, accepting the request is not mandatory, and the server admits it with some probability. Whenever the queue becomes empty, whether after reservicing, completing service with no reservice request, or ending the low-batch service, the server enters a random-length vacation. If the queue still has less than ‘a’ customers …

(R2072) A Method To Sample From Transition Densities Of Diffusion Processes With Unknown Densities, Yasin Kikabi, Juma Kasozi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we present a reliable method that can be used to sample paths of a diffusion process described by a system of stochastic differential equations. These are types of processes whose transition density is not known in closed form. This reliable method involves solving a partial differential equation of the Fokker-Planck type by rejection sampling techniques applied to the associated densities. We then use the novel method to sample from the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) process whose transition density is known and has unbounded drift. The results obtained compare excellently with the analytical results, thus rendering the method reliable and …

(R2174) A Stationary First-Order Autoregressive Process With New Discrete Lindley Marginal Distribution, Tégawendé Martin Kabore, Jean-Etienne Ouindllassida Ouédraogo

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper introduces a new stationary first-order autoregressive integer-valued process with a marginal distribution following the New Discrete Lindley distribution, referred to as NDLINAR( 1). The process is developed to model over-dispersed count time series exhibiting a mixed behavior arising from the combination of multiple distributions. Its statistical properties are thoroughly investigated, and the parameters are estimated using conditional maximum likelihood. The asymptotic properties of the estimators are also analyzed. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated by comparing it with other existing INAR(1) processes through applications to real datasets. Results demonstrate that the NDL-INAR(1) process effectively captures the …

(R2177) Further Study On Intuitionistic Fuzzy Matrices, S. Sriram, A. Anitha

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of the distributive law associated with two newly introduced operations addition and multiplication defined on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Matrices (IFMs). The proposed operations are systematically examined to investigate their algebraic properties, with particular emphasis on the behavior of the distributive law under these novel definitions. Furthermore, modal and extended modal operators are employed to establish several theoretical results that reinforce the mathematical foundation of the proposed framework. The validity and practical relevance of these results are further demonstrated through applications in decision-making scenarios, highlighting their effectiveness in addressing complex problems characterized by uncertainty.

(R2147) Effect Of Mass Variation With Log-Logistic Distribution In Perturbed Interacting Cr3bp, Abdullah Abdullah, Majhar Ali, S. K. Sahdev

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper investigates the motion of the infinitesimal body in the perturbed restricted three-body problem where the primary is heterogeneous in shape and secondary is with modified Newtonian potential. With the use of log-logistic distribution, space-time transformation and the above-said perturbations, we determine the equations of motion and quasi-Jacobian integral. Further, we numerically perform the locations of equilibrium points, their stability, regions of motion, periodic orbits and Poincaré surfaces of section.

(R2153) Advanced Numerical Method For One Dimensional Burgers Equation With A Source Term, Yahaya Alassane Mahaman Nouri, Djibo Moustapha, Maman Yarodji Abdoul, Saley Bisso

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper investigates a numerical strategy for the one-dimensional Burgers equation with a nonzero source term. Such equations arise in simplified models of transport and diffusion processes and are often used to assess the performance of numerical schemes for nonlinear evolution problems. The proposed approach combines a second-order Crank–Nicolson time discretization with a projection-based procedure that separates the nonlinear convective contribution from diffusive effects. Spatial approximation is carried out using a Chebyshev spectral collocation method, which provides high accuracy for smooth solutions with a limited number of degrees of freedom. The resulting fully discretized system is solved through an iterative …

(R2155) Mathematical Insights Into Cancer Cells Growth Stability And Chaos, Pardeep Kumar, Kashish Agarwal, Tripti Anand, Sarita Jha

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this research paper, we examined a recently proposed three-dimensional dynamical model of cancer cell growth that explicitly couples the populations of tumour cells, healthy host cells, and immune cells (Pardeep et al.). We aim to elucidate the model’s novel biological features relative to classical tumour–immune interaction models and to characterize its dynamical regimes. This model is governed by nonlinear differential equations featuring a quadratic tumour proliferation term and bilinear coupling terms for tumour–immune and tumour–host interactions. Then, we performed the rigorous analysis by solving the fixed-point equations and from the Jacobian matrices at the resulting equilibria to identify the …

(R2167) Global Stability Of Seirs Model With Single Dose Vaccination In Varying Population, Govind Jha, Prabhat Mandal, Sarita Jha

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Understanding the evolution of infectious diseases within a dynamic population is essential for formulating effective public health strategies. This work introduces an enhanced SEIRS epidemic model that incorporates demographic variation and a single-dose vaccination strategy, supporting that immunity can be reduced over time. The model reflects diseases in which individuals may return to the susceptible state after recovery. Extending prior reduced three-dimensional models, this study develops a complete four-dimensional SEIRS framework, thereby increasing the model’s applicability to real-world scenarios. The inclusion of the full system presents greater analytical challenges. To overcome this, we extend the second additive compound matrix and …

(R2124) Impact Of Delay And Awareness On Hiv/Aids Epidemic Model, Debashis Biswas

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

A delayed HIV/AIDS epidemic model with awareness has been taken here. Essentially, it is mentioned that the disease spreads among the population only through contact (horizontal transmission). The equilibrium points of both the proposed models are investigated, and their stability is discussed. Both models have two types of equilibria, namely the disease-free and the disease positive. The basic reproductive number of both models has been calculated by using the next generation matrix technique. In this paper, the main motivation is to find a way to decrease the disease transmission. Also discussed the impact of delay and awareness on the HIV/AIDS …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The deployment of artificial satellites in different gravitational environments has significantly impacted space exploration. We have introduced the study of artificial satellites under the influence of gravitational forces from oblate spheroids. To confront complex obstacles the myriads of both numerical and analytical techniques have been formulated. Among these methods, a new approach involving the integration of integral equations has been introduced. This innovative approach has been applied to study the trajectories of artificial satellites as they navigate the gravitational influence of oblate spheroids. Suitable kernels have been carefully chosen to solve the integral equations. The solutions have been found and …

(R2139) Italian Domination Number For Some Classes Of Trees, Amritha Prakash, Ragukumar Pandurangan

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

For a graph G with vertex set V , an Italian dominating function is a function f from V to {0, 1, 2} which has the property that for every vertex which is assigned 0, it must either adjacent to a vertex assigned 2 under f or adjacent to at least two vertices assigned 1 under f. The weight of an Italian dominating function is the sum of all weights assigned to the vertices. The minimum weight of an Italian dominating function f is the Italian domination number. Finding a graph’s Italian domination number is a well-known NP-Complete problem. Even …

(R2159) A Novel Extension Of Picard’S Method For Fractional Initial Value Problems With Convergence Analysis On Finite And Infinite Intervals, Jag Mohan, Anju Sood

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In recent years, fractional differential equations have emerged as powerful tools for modeling phenomena with memory and hereditary effects, owing to their non-local characteristics. These equations excel in tackling intricate problems across physics, engineering, and other fields. As analytical solutions are often infeasible, numerical methods play a vital role in their practical application. In this study, we have generalized Picard’s method to address fractional differential initial value problems with Caputo derivative, establishing an existence and uniqueness theorem applicable to both finite and infinite intervals. To substantiate our findings, we provide an example with graphical evidence demonstrating the convergence of the …

(R2175) Application Of Similarity Measures On Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic Matrices In United Nations’ Sdg-17 Using Python, T. Muthuraji, N. Krishnapraveen

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The increasing complexity of decision-making environments demands mathematical frameworks capable of modeling bipolar, indeterminate, and phase-dependent uncertainty simultaneously. Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic theory provides such a structure, but the extension of similarity measures to matrix-based environments remains largely unexplored. In this study, we formally develop cosine, Dice, Jaccard, and hybrid vector similarity measures for Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic Matrices (BCNMs). Each matrix element is represented by a Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic Number (BCNN), enabling structured representation of multidimensional uncertainty within a matrix framework. We also design and implement efficient Python-based computational tools to automate similarity evaluation for BCNMs. The proposed algorithms reduce computational …

(R2185) Operations On Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic Matrices And Its Application In Un’S Sdg-14 & Sdg-3 Using Python, N. Krishnapraveen, T. Muthuraji

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Decision-making in sustainability oriented environments frequently involves bipolar evaluations, indeterminate information and phase dependent uncertainty that cannot be adequately represented by existing neutrosophic matrix models. To address this limitation, this study introduces a Bipolar Complex Neutrosophic Matrix (BCNM) framework that integrates bipolar semantics with complex valued uncertainty in a coherent algebraic structure. Fundamental operations and structural properties are rigorously established to ensure mathematical consistency. To facilitate practical multi criteria decision analysis (MCDA), novel score, accuracy, and hybrid aggregation operators are developed. The computational feasibility of the proposed approach is analyzed, demonstrating linear complexity with respect to the number of alternatives …

(R2140) Verifying The Proper Efficiency In Multi-Objective Problems, Javad Bavali, Hadi Basirzadeh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Over the past decade, numerous approaches have been put forward to address multi-objective optimization problems-focusing on approximating proper efficient solutions instead of the efficient solutions. These methods are important because, according to Geoffrion’s conjecture, proper non-dominated solutions constitute a dense subset of the non-dominated solution set. In the current study, first, using the definition of Kuhn-Tucker’s proper efficiency, we present a linear subproblem that investigates the proper efficiency of a randomly selected feasible point. Additionally, the relationship between the different types of solutions to this sub-problem and the proper efficient solutions of the main problem has been analyzed. Next, we …

(R2191) The Study Of Stokes Drag In The R4bp Under The Effect Of Coriolis And Centrifugal Forces With Variable Mass, Amit Mittal, Krishan Pal, Rajiv Aggarwal, Rajveer Singh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we examine the existence, locations, and stability of the equilibrium points under the combined effects of Stokes drag and small perturbations in the Coriolis and centrifugal forces in the triangular restricted four-body problem (TR4BP) with variable mass. A triangular (Lagrangian) configuration is formed by the three primary bodies, which occupy the vertices of an equilateral triangle. All the primaries are treated as point masses to study the dynamical behavior of an infinitesimal body. The numerical results indicate that, under the influence of Stokes drag, none of the equilibrium points lie along a straight line. The centrifugal force …

University Faculty Publications and Creative Works

Quaternary glaciogenic deposits, which serve as vital groundwater aquifers, are often partially cemented with carbonate minerals, but the timing of emplacement of these cements and their geochemical conditions of formation remain understudied. Here, we integrated petrography, δ18O, Mg/Ca, and clumped isotope (Δ47) data from two calcitecemented outcrops in western Michigan (USA) to investigate the origin of glacial sediment cements. The two sites have contrasting topographic and textural settings reflecting distinct formation conditions. The elevated Wabasis Lake deposit records sequential phreatic-to-vadose cementation, while the Cherry Valley Sands site, very close to the modern water table, shows a …

(R2129) Layer Resolving Classical Scheme For A System Of N Time-Dependent Singularly Perturbed Problems With Spatial Delay And Robin Initial Conditions, K. Ramiya Bharathi, G. E. Chatzarakis, M. Joseph Paramasivam

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This article deals with solving a system of n time-dependent singularly perturbed problems with spatial delay and robin initial conditions. Each equation’s leading term is multiplied by a distinct small positive parameter, inducing overlapping initial layers. Due to presence of these parameters and delay terms, intricate layers occur at interior regions of the domain. To capture the behavior of these layers the solution is decomposed into two components and layer functions are also formulated. The formulation of the layer resolving numerical scheme involves temporal and spatial discretization on uniform and piecewise uniform Shishkin meshes respectively. The proposed framework is found …

Constrained Neural Intelligence: Investigations Into Deep Multi-Objective Optimization, Naveed Tahir Jun 2026

Constrained Neural Intelligence: Investigations Into Deep Multi-Objective Optimization, Naveed Tahir

Dissertations - ALL

Neural intelligence is identified with complex learning problems optimized over the high-dimensional, non-convex parameter spaces of deep neural networks. Solving such problems generally requires handling competing objectives and conflicting constraints. This is traditionally dealt with using heuristic methods that collapse such complexity into unconstrained, singular objectives. While computationally convenient, this invites a tradeoff against the precision and stability afforded by non-heuristic, geometry-aware approaches. This dissertation explores constrained multi-objective learning in various applied and theoretical contexts and highlights the feasibility of approximate methods as well as the necessity of exact methods. We propose a framework for equality-constrained deep learning via approximate …

Thermal Aberrations And Optical Design For Current And Future Gravitational Wave Detectors, Matthew Richard Todd

Dissertations - ALL

Since the first detection of gravitational waves in 2015, the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collabo- ration has detected over 300 gravitational-wave events. Planned upgrades to each detector will further improve gravitational wave sensitivity limits, pushing the frontier of multi- messenger astronomy and paving the way for next-generation detectors, like Cosmic Ex- plorer and Einstein Telescope. Though many challenges to reach sensitivity goals are being addressed, there are still cru- cial aspects of the detectors that are poorly understood and will inhibit gravitational wave detection commissioners from bringing future detectors to their design sensitivity. In par- ticular, increased circulating arm power targets will exacerbate …

Peptide And Peptide Bioconjugate Based Drug Development For The Treatment Of Metabolic Diseases, Nancy Cham Jun 2026

Peptide And Peptide Bioconjugate Based Drug Development For The Treatment Of Metabolic Diseases, Nancy Cham

Dissertations - ALL

The Doyle group has coined the term ‘corrination’ to describe the conjugate modification of a peptide, protein, small molecule, or radionuclide with a corrin ring-containing molecule such as cobalamin, also known as vitamin B12 (B12), or cobinamides. By exploiting the innate chemico-physical properties of corrin ring-containing compounds, both in general and specifically via the innate dietary B12 uptake pathway in mammals, corrination has been explored for drug development and targeted/localized delivery of probes and therapeutics. Most recently, it is in the field of peptide-based therapeutics that corrination is generating significant interest, no doubt driven in part by the recent successes …
