Studies In Computational Linguistics No. 1, The Recognition Of Alphabets, Edward F. Storm
Studies In Computational Linguistics No. 1, The Recognition Of Alphabets, Edward F. Storm
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - Technical Reports
Formal parsing rules for programming languages often have machinery for recognizing identifiers, numerical constants, and other substrings whose internal structure is only marginally relevant to the language structure as a whole. In this note alphabets are introduced in which identifiers, constants, etc. are regarded as single symbols. An alphabet is thus constructed out of a finite set of characters, is identified as a regular language and a simple recognition algorithm is described, giving the language designer considerable latitude in his choice of alphabet.
A Fortran List Processor (Flip), Karl A. Fugal
A Fortran List Processor (Flip), Karl A. Fugal
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A series of Basic Assembler Language subroutines were developed and made available to the FORTRAN IV language processor which makes list processing possible in a flexible and easily understood way.
The subroutine will create and maintain list structures in the computer's core storage. The subroutines are sufficiently general to permit FORTRAN programmers to tailor list processing routines to their own individual requirements. List structure sizes are limited only by the amount of core storage available.

A Cephalometric Study Of The Face And Dentition Of Several Contemporary Western United States And Alaskan Eskimo Groups, Robert C. Parkard
A Cephalometric Study Of The Face And Dentition Of Several Contemporary Western United States And Alaskan Eskimo Groups, Robert C. Parkard
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
A total of 223 cephalometric radiographs selected from six contemporary western United States and Alaskans native groups were analyzed by use of the Bjork cephalometric analysis. Those native groups selected were the Eskimos, Apaches, Navajos, Papagos, Pimas and Mayos. Approximately thirty to forty natives from each group were used in the study with ages ranging from thirteen to thirty-five years. The majority were in the fifteen to twenty year age range.
All data was submitted to various statistical analyses to establish a mean, standard deviation, and other relevant values for each of the native groups and to compare these values …

Foreward: Recognizing the need for training of individuals to meet the rapidly rising problems connected with water resources development, Utah State University, with National Science Foundation support, organized a Summer Institute in Water Resources for college teachers. it was hoped that participants carefully selected from all regions of the country would receive additional insight and stimulation to improve and enlarge water resources training programs at their own institutions. Thus, the accelerated dissemination of such knowledge on a national scale could be facilitated. Realizing further that the key to a successful institute of this nature lay in the excellence of its …
The Discovery Of Quantum Mechanics, Patrick A. Heelan
The Discovery Of Quantum Mechanics, Patrick A. Heelan
Research Resources
In this chapter Heelan discusses how Heisenberg's insight of 1925, that physics should concern itself henceforth only with relations between observables, changed the intentionality-structure of physics. This insight led Heisenberg to the construction of a quantum mechanics of observables. Heelan briefly discusses the significance of his insighand of his rejection of Schrödinger's wave mechanics; the novelty of quantum mechanics as a physical theory, and the meaning he attributed to its most surprising result, viz., the Indeterminacy Relations. The crisis was a crisis of the rationalism inherent in the outlook of classical physics, and Heisenberg's insistence on "observable quantities" was a …

Physics, Chapter 13: Properties Of Matter, Henry Semat, Robert Katz
Physics, Chapter 13: Properties Of Matter, Henry Semat, Robert Katz
Robert Katz Publications
When a system is subjected to external forces, it generally undergoes a change in size or shape or both. We have thus far touched very lightly on such changes; for example, we have considered the change in length of an elastic spring and the change in volume of a gas when such systems were subjected to varying pressures. The changes produced in a system by the action of external forces depend upon the physical properties of the material of which the system is composed. A study of the properties of matter leads to information which is of practical value to …
Correlation Between Grades In Engineering Physics And Performance In Engineering Curricula, Donald Hoyt, Louis D. Ellsworth, Robert Katz
Correlation Between Grades In Engineering Physics And Performance In Engineering Curricula, Donald Hoyt, Louis D. Ellsworth, Robert Katz
Robert Katz Publications
A survey of grades in Engineering Physics I at Kansas State College showed that the inner structure of the course was highly consistent. The correlation coefficient between the average of the first three tests and the final grade was about 0.88. More significantly, valuable prognostic data could be obtained from the final grade in the course. The correlation coefficient between the Engineering Physics I grade and the final grade point average of students who completed the course was about 0.83. Only 21% of the students initially failing the course successfully completed an engineering degree, while about 75% of the A, …
